That piece necks down to create a Venturi effect to suck in cold air.

Regarding other exhausts or taking that piece out….a friend melted a $1300 Yeti on a receiver hitch rack by having an aftermarket exhaust. Kinda sucked

Curious how that Banks one lowers temps "15% less than stock". It's bigger, but it still comes straight out of the dpf.

$1300 for a cooler lol

Yeah I like that 90 degree turn out that puts it out the side of the truck seems lots more logical to me.

Time will tell I don’t know that the $ vs the HP gain is there

Could always have em linex a stone guard
I am not familiar with stone guard. What are those pal?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Linex bedliner sprayed in high impact areas. Like along rockers etc.
Mostly clear line-X

Yup, unless you want a two tone look……
So GM has a kind of texture product on the bottom of all the quarter panels that I think does similar to what your suggestion.  It however doesn’t go excessively high up the bottom.   Maybe three inches on the bottom of the door is all

Off getting window tint

That's what I was talking about. It's called "Chip Guard" and is clean and not as textured. I'm redoing my Chevy with the stuff shortly

Just found this Dave, wondered about the new truck. I really hear good things about the LP5 too.

I agree the tires sticking way out look stupid, never liked that.

Just experienced the most terrifying towing experience I have ever had.

Goose neck and our Deere 60 mini x
Driving down the highway and a pretty steep grade. As I applied brake to stop at the light my truck began to violently buck forward. The trailer brakes had worked fine empty, the setting was up on the factory brake controller to 8.
I pushed through the light as I couldn’t hold on to my wheel and keep pushing the brake. I used the shoulder as traffic was coming through the light.

I tried standing on it with no change, I tried the baker manual application with no effect.

I unplugged the trailer thinking it was the issue. Zero changed!!!
As I still had miles to go with zero assistance on a Sunday I crept along. The brake bucking continued even at 15-20 mph stops just not as violent.

I took a detour and picked up one of our drivers and he verified my load and weight distribution of the load, he went for a ride to make sure I wasn’t ____in loosing it!!

Looking for any suggestion as this was absolutely bad bad bad.

Iv experienced swinging trailers, I know what a to much tongue weight and tail weight feels like and this was none of those!!!

The truck didn’t leave skid marks even and hard as I tried, it didn’t act or feel like ABS going off

Try a search for the GM brake controller. Might be some info there.

Sounds like it was having a good time pushing you along, glad your OK.

Sorry Dave, sounds scary.

Didd you verify the trailer brakes by manually activating the trailer brake controller while slowly coasting forward at 5-10mph?

Yes, I did as I was leaving our shop yard I checked with an empty trailer. Didn’t pull as hard as I would have liked but they slowed me down.  I’m not sure if there are many setting on these brake controllers but I will be ordering an aftermarket that gives me some options like single, double, triple axle and that type

This is just nates opinion, so take it or leave it.

My truck is 1 year newer than yours, and other than the typical recalls from gm......i have not touched a darn thing and i have had absoutley ZERO problems.  As a caveat....i dont drive slow, i drive it like i stole it.

I have litterally pulled several size trailers back and forth across this country with my current truck........and again, i have had ZERO problems with anything to include the factory brake controler.

As per our conversation this morning, my recommendation still stands!

Hook another trailer to your truck empty and test it in the yard. If no problems, load it up and test it in the yard.

If the problem continues, remove the banks and test again.

The chance of your factory brake controler going bad is about a million to 1.

Nate,
Consider test complete. 30’ + feet of loaded steel snowmobile trailer and I had zero issues towing, pulling, stopping, rolling into a stop, stomping in the brakes. None!! 100% want to blame the gooseneck trailer.

It However left the yard to go to idaho and who knows when it will be back to try again.

I plan on moving another Hoe this weekend with a different trailer and I’ll again test this out…..

Dealership has an appointment for me on Tuesday next week to go over everything as the truck only has 1500 miles on it since the dealership.

I did have a lengthy call with jay from banks and he said 99.99 chance it’s not the banks but told me to get it to repeat the issue and pull the OBDII plug and test again.  If that’s the issue he would like to have my stuff all back and look into it more.  He also told me they are working on a exhaust brake upgrade for the truck model!!! I might be one of the first to demo it. Time will tell.

So I’m at a loss until other trailer appears.

Told the boss of the issue and he will have the trailer gone over

I kind of think it’s the flex in the steel frame of the neck. Pushing and pulling as it’s old as early 90’s and probably has some major fatigue

This sounds just like a flight condition that was possible when the Chinook would carry a heavy load externally.

I mention it because perhaps the science could be the same, we just deal with it differently on roadways.

The problem is with sympathetic vibration. In the Chinook it is called "Thrust-bounce" as you are going along a vertical oscillation starts then continues to build as it goes from the load up through the sling ropes into the aircraft, up to the top of the aircraft and is reflected downward. The magnitude increases until something breaks

We have to have at least three feet of nylon loop somewhere between the aircraft and the load to absorb the shock waves instead of transferring them.

I've mentioned this before here, but one day in the Korea, I hooked up to something heavy and away I went. Something weighing like 15,000. when I leveled off around 2500 AGL the helicopter started to buck violently up and down for maybe 10 seconds then the sling loop of 1" wire rope snapped apart and the load fell to the ground.

With trailers of various lengths you have a good set of variables, so does it do this with just the one trailer or with all trailers. A shorter trailer may not allow the vibration to set up, where maybe a different length may. You don't experience one continuous power force emitting from the driveshaft, but one every time a piston fires. Yes they may be minute and short lived, but could they harmonize with something you are pulling?

I don't know, and it sounds crazy, but it is real. I'll bet trucks are just not subject to the science that flying things are, and there is probably strange things that happen that could be attributed to sympathetic vibrations...

I am 100% satisfied with how my truck handles as of today!!

Added some new shocks and I tell ya what a world of difference. No more freeway bouncing, no more question what my steering will do in a corner.  It’s solid!

The tough country junk shocks were so soft I could compress them with my body weight on the ground.  These bilsteins on the other hand I couldn’t make them budge!    Next to get delivered will be a steering arm and I’ll install that ASAP!!

Yet another happy customer for these well made shocks!

That just looks right

I think its the triple axles that makes it for me.

Not very heavy, really for that truck, you should be fine with it

Put the airbags on tonight, what a pain in the a$$!!

I tried the pucks I was mentioned to try.

Daystar, Air Bag Cradle designed... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0084ROJBM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The video looks very promising in their advertisements, but the design was good but very poor execution,   Bolt pattern was off, cheap hardware, and the one size fits all didn’t work on my pickup, I tried to modify or cobblefab to make it work but after a few hours of futzing with it I tossed em in the garbage can.

Towed the trailer today to clean the black and grey tanks with some cleaner stuff then to empty,  I went down I-15 for a ways to properly beat tar out of me, trailer, truck, truck suspension.

Fifty psi in the air bags is enough to hold the truck level but not enough to compensate for the moving bounding weight of this trailer.   I’ll move up to seventy pounds next move and see what happens!

What’s the max psi you guys have comfortably ran in these air bag systems?

My LBZ I don’t think I ever needed more then 25 psi to hold our gooseneck that has thousands more pounds on it.

Just curious

Water in the tanks can make it move too. I used to have to spray water in the black tank via the toilet, yuck.

I ran 25-55 lbs on the dually, but I wasn’t trying to compensate for the lack of spring compression from being leveled. I still had the factory rake.

I believe they are rated for use up to 100#.

Having the trailer empty may be inducing odd ride traits that won’t be there properly outfitted.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Took my fully loaded Raptor and truck to Idaho at 65psi. Floating and bucking is just part of the game.
Only difference might be I put shock absorbing shackles on the trailer a while back when I lifted it.

Ken I might make a phone call to ya this week,  I’d like your input on what you call bucking.   I honest feel like this trailer is going to rip the back of my truck off,  I don’t know if it’s the fifthwheel hitch I added, the lack of tail weight in this trailer or what but I’m concerned I need to upgrade as Charles has said to a DRW if I keep up this mess.

Dave just as a comparo, I use loads of air pressure in my 5K bags too.
So much that I am thinking of purchasing 7500# bags and seeing if I can fit those
Your thinking the larger bag will take less air to lift?

Yes, and with more load capability, less squat with less air. PSI over square inches and all that...

Now that looks like an awesome upgrade Charles!! I don’t want to add more airbags to things with these fancy air hitches, fancy pin boxes and all

I like the simplicity of it that might work pretty slic

Let's just say none of us got any sleep while passing through SLC on that I-15, but by the time we hit Idaho Falls, we all crashed and burned in the Love's parking lot. Lol
... the previous couple years we drove straight through.

I seen these aluminum knobs on Amazon a few weeks ago, I really like the look of them and decided I would order them up.

They push over the rubber pretty snug, I like the metal texture better then the rubber, they don’t block the back lighting any.
They did have color options like red or blue

I have to date had four alignments done on this truck to fix a slightly aggravating pull to the left, I have rotated tire location to address the “it’s the tires” response when I complain about the alignment pull.

I finally caved and drove 40 min to the shop in SLC and had the good ol boy who I have used for years until I moved north.

All alignments cost a min of $70 as advertised, the recheck produced nothing wrong in their eyes but the pull continued!!

Dan down at Jacks Tire & oil got me fixed up with .5 degree of camber being off.  Told me adjusting that should fix it, charged me $30 bucks and driving home I called the shop manager, complimented him on his great service, great experience time and time again and reminded him good employees are hard to find and he had better keep them happy!!!!

10 years of service ( we looked today on my customer history) and I am still happy with one store!!

Truck drove home smooth, straight and zero pull.  Oh so much nicer

TO bad he is so far. Mine has pulled to the left just a tad since I lifted it.

Usually the pull is road crown and although it looks perfect on the machine good guys can tweak it to account for the road crown.

I have a 70 year old dude that does all my alignments. He’s the best I ever met. He knows all the tricks

The issue with alignments at most box shops is, it's a part seller. The shop pays a tech a certain amount of that $70, say 30%, he then looks for the money job. If it's a newer vehicle, they will lose money on a straight up alignment. (A cheap alignment setup is $30k). The money comes from ball joints, brakes, etc.
The tech isn't going to change the numbers if it's in the range, test drive, rerack the truck, tweak it some more, etc. because chances are he won't be compensated.

This is one reason I don't do them. I can't compete on the pricing without selling people other work. Hard to be 100% honest going that route imo.

I had a system on loan from Snap on a few years ago. I spent almost 3 hours getting my truck dialed in, partially because of lack of experience, but regardless, that would've been $250 if it was charged out.

Ken, its not hard to be 100% honest. You do what makes you $$ and don't bull the customer. Out here $100 is a standard price and I see why.

I may try this new guy who still uses the old bubble setup next time if he's available.
