From the beginning I was a quad rider
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170402/f670a614fdc67510cef7a6e60a778ebf.jpg)
There was the quad needing rebuilt at the time so I purchase a bike to try
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170402/8e61022eb6948209faa8beadc83939e3.jpg)
Loved it more than the big bore 500 and wide front end of the quad so it became the bastard child and started collecting dust

I had the bike to devote my time to. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170402/fee9a46629b012af94e20a0256236eaf.jpg[/IMG the sand dunes [IMG]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170402/c473aee87088a6ccd75be76875dc416a.jpg) the moto track

Vacation after action this bike has been ol miss reliable. Never did a thing other than change the oil and pour the coals to her.
Yesterday she had enough. I was doing some knarly cookies in the river bed of course throwing a rooster tail at the boy who was watching dad get covered in mud. The rpm was high and the joy was higher! Than all of a sudden the fun stopped, the motor stopped and the wallet instantly became empty$$$$ I tried the kickstarter with hopes on to be smashed!

I am going to look for a head in my area to buy, no luck so far. Feel free to do a local search in your area too. 2006-2009 head for a yz450f. No damage :).
Tonight I got the rear suspension on my yellow bike ( custom to my weight) and installed it on the new bike and took a pretty photo for those who recognize how clean this bike really is

Just did a Cincy CraigsList search for ya, but came up goose eggs...
-
That's how it is up here, nothing. I can buy a parts bike for $2000 but the chances of that motor going are pretty high too so I think I will steal what I want off of the yellow bike and either sell or store for a rainy day

Bummer it blew up on you! Too bad it's not a late model KTM, or even a late model of any brand. I have been looking for a rolling chassis to cram a cr500 into. But 2005 is too old to be worth the effort. Those bikes had some handling issues if I recall correctly, but by 2009 they turned corners extremely well. Not sure what year they fixed it though. 04 was terrible, I think the last year of the steel frame. 05 being aluminum might have been way better. Anyway that bike running good, is only worth $2k around here so might not be worth fixing it. The roller might sell for $1,000. You might get more parting it out on ebay. At least that is what I would consider looking into.
-
Good point on the cost vs value.
Running 2k, roller 1k, parts may end up at the 2k depending on people's needs vs supply and demand.

dave, here is what a search in and around the PNW returns........

2006-2009 had the aluminum frame on the yz. The WR is always a year behind.
The 2006 yz frame had a little bit more rake in the Head tube, made it push like a crazy in corners. The 07 changed the angle and fixed it.
As far as the steel frame I don't know much of He history
The value is low weather I sell as parts the roller won't bring much either but as I experienced last time, I don't think selling a bike is worth it. I have a line on a new head for 500 and will storage it till $ is recovered in other areas. It will make a good buddy bike or a bike for my boy to gee wiz ride one day. Selling it really isn't much of an option.
I sold that quad in the first photo for 3k and I had more than that into the motor. Built to a 500, port work, cams and all the fixings, the next step was alcohol or a turbo. Suspension was pretty mild but it sure moved fast at the sand dunes. The short of it was I sold it and lost my money, memories, my extra ride. I regretted selling it before I helped the guy load it into the truck

The speedometer might have to come off of the new bike as the yz suspension doesn't contain all of the brackets needed to hold it tight but... we are gonna go for a rip this weekend and see how it does.
Front and rear have been swapped

Just what I was thinking, got lots of hits.
Cylinder kits on ebay are going for 5-600, but you still need a head. They run about the same.

The eBay parts scare me just a tad.

More for reff but you get the idea. Yep, many scams but many solid company's too.
-
Still on the hunt for the replacement head parts, been focusing on finding a parts bike that I can harvest what I need and than recoup some of my cost by selling what is left of said bike
As of now the new WR is a great bike. She got a sand paddle tire and me and the boy set out for the sand dunes Little Sahara or Jericho it's called here, for easter weekend "dirt church" and lived like kids for a few days

Affectionately they are RV pads or some have the chained down picnic table and dirty grill there. But mostly we park the trailers on them because they are level :)

Well here are the photos of the new bike, I think I am going to sell parts off of the yellow bike and look for a bigger bike option for John

I have intentions of a higher mounted 8 inch light bar off of the handlebars but that is on the way back burner
160 miles on the odometer, original tires still with good life left, all of the emissions were removed and than updated jetting to support the better flowing parts
Should be a good bike for a long time to go still

Great looking WR! I sold my yz450 a couple of years ago and still miss it. There aren't any motocross tracks where I live now so I'm looking at getting a WR as well. Although I think I'm going to go with the WR250 enduro version instead of converting a 450 to be street legal.
Does the new WR feel sluggish compared to the YZ?
-
The first gear is a little bit shorter, wheelies are a little different, fifth gear is longer as well. But I honestly have very little ride time in the bike. Maybe a good hour or so total

It's been almost three weeks since me and the boy have been out riding, here is our last trip purdy photo of the new bike.
