Got the Dmax back from the shop today with the 4.56 gears. Has a whine now in both drive and coast. Setup looks OK, filled with Amsoil.

MPH is way off after a new tune, like 15mph (showing 85 for 70gps). It needs the 37s now, turning 2k at true 70mph.

Darn ABS and brake warning are on with the diff gears. Time for the lift to get on!

...And

That thing is going to look so cool when lifted with the 37's

I think they are the correct sized tire for these larger rigs

I think I'll get 37's for the Burb when I wear my 35's out at some distant point.

But with a gasser and 4.88's I just may have to!

You may need 37s sooner than you think. Withs 35s and 4.88s that motor is going to be screaming at 70mph.

Yea, Tate and I looked at all that. Came out to shy of 2400 RPM at 70, so yes, it will be turning up, but hey its a LS, it likes revs.

Btw at a bit over 80 when the D-Max is singing at 2100+ it is running its best.

And that Tundra I had that I put a Dana 44 under the front end, had 4.88's and I drove it for years like that.

JR let me make sure I understand this correctly.

you paid a business to re-gear your truck for you.....that business put the new gears in but did it wrong.....that business is only going to cover the cost of labor, while you have to pay more money out of your pocket to buy the same equipment for that same incompetent individual to try again?

is this correct, or did I miss something completely while I was trying to unscrew myself?

JR, if what Nate is saying is true, that just isn't right no matter how you try to defend it. The shop should be making it right not charging you for on the job training. Not sure I would even be giving them another chance at it if you are having to pay to let them try again.

So got the Dmax in today for the regear, redo. Took about 3 hours, no issues.

Sean at River City Diff, Rancho Cordova did the re-install for free. Randys stepped up for the new gears and little things.

First here is the old pinion that was making noise. Obviously something not right, you can see the wavy pattern.

Myself and others figured the pinion was shallow. Think it was riding on the toe to much and high.

Hear is the final setup. Pretty darn good with 7-9 backlash.

Took it for a ride and it was quiet, both drive and coast. Put cheap oil in it, will drain at 150 then add synthetic.

Need to get 500 miles on it by the weekend for towing. Plan on getting 2 shipping containers and the Kubota up to the prop.

Funny thing is on the a home the heater/AC started acting up. Would blow hot air on the drivers side and cool air on the passenger side.

Played with all the setting to no avail. Batteries were disconnected during the gears, so on a stop on the way home I disconnected them again.

That did it and a good thing to with 95* today and hotter later this week.

Still think the DIC needs replacing. Hour meter went to 0, sometimes the radio shuts off when I get out, sometimes not and many of the dash lights are still out.

Hour meter will do that sometimes when batteries get low, when they’re going bad, or simply disconnected. I/P lights... have fun with that. They’re all soldered on. Radio not shutting off would be the door switch in your door not disengaging the RAP. Does it shut off when other doors are opened?

Yep, battery issues a few times but the DIC is supposed to remember all that I thought? Yes, other doors make it work fine.

Think Ken told me there are relays in there too which explains a couple things.

OK guys, what oil for the long run?

Do I need limited slip additive with synthetic?

80/90? 80/140?

Kinda looking at Delvac Mobil1, Valvoline Synpower (has LS additive) and Lucas right now.

there’s about a 3 min process to ‘re center’ the blend doors on those trucks. just did it on my grandfathers 04 1500.. but they’re all the same.

i think it’s:

pull HVAC fuse under hood for 1 min.
(turn key to ACC during that time)
turn key off.
replace fuse
turn truck on, leave HVAC dash settings on whatever they are. it will cycle from floor to defrost and do hot and cold. then return to the setting you have it on.

turn truck off and back on. should be good to go.

the blend door isn’t that bad. it’s on the bottom above the trans tunnel. i did it with some decently large hands. turns out i didn’t need to, but it’s doable! hahah

I'm with Tex, but run the thicker blend...75/140. No additive needed if it's OEM govloc.
I run valvoline synthetic in customers trucks.  Seems to hold up well.

Are you running the Duragrip JR? the composite clutches in those aren't really synthetic friendly. it acts like a solvent on the needed modifier and can make them aggressive and chatter. not saying it will, just that they can. If you ARE running the Duragrip, then like any other aftermarket limited slip, (Eaton or Auburn) you're better off running a high quality, non synthetic GL5, and a bottle of friction modifier. if you're running the gov-loc, any oil will work, and DO NOT put modifier in it, the clutches won't grab enough to spin the governor assembly.

Going with Valvoline Syn which should be delivered any minute now. Valvoline specs this for LS rears, which you sold me. Right now it has wally 80/90 in there, no modifier.

Now if it is really bad for it I can get any oil locally and return the Valvoline to summit Friday when I go?

it's not giving you any trouble... yet. we pre-soak the clutches during assembly so there's a bit of modifier in there. go ahead with the Valvoline, but DO put a bottle of good friction modifier in there. FORD or SPICER preferred. if it starts giving you trouble in tight corners, like hard rights from a stop dragging the back end, just know that's why.

My bad guys, I thought he just changed the gears. Definately run the modifier. I use 2 tubes on 3/4 tons with LS, that hold 3qts or more, but Tate has me outranked on advice.

it's a fine line on what you want it to do. 3+qrts, typically recommend 2 tubes, like Ken says. especially for a mostly city truck. Farm truck like Jon though, I'd run one and let it chatter the few times it saw pavement just to have the better grip in low traction scenarios. I really don't like synthetics for clutches, but you can run it

I am running the Valv also, seems to work good so far and says for LS.

On another note, I may have fuel in the oil, was way high yesterday. Dumped it all and put in 10qts and will monitor close. Started with a trip to my prop, seemed to loose prime a few times and had to pump up but ran fine otherwise.

So it got a fuel filter and oil change before dragging the little trailer back home.

Or he could use a grizzly.....just a little grizzly grease is all. I can say that grizzly is so aggressive that it could possible cause one to swing the rear so wide on a hard left onto a two lane highway from a stop light turn so quick that it could put you in the oncoming lane. Not that I’ve experienced that.  But it could. Jus sayin. Maybe.

How does aLBZ make oil from injectors since they are outside of the valve covers?

That is what I am thinking to Ken. I guess they can leak past the seals into the CC.

I have a lift pump but think it is in op with my other electrical issue (BCM) as other little things are not working quite right.

Well, I haven't checked the oil since the weekend but it looked clear as lemonade, not dirty at all.

Lost prime several times, having to pump it up to run.

Then last night I got on it good and it went into limp mode. P0089, low fuel rail pressure. Cleared the code and checked pressure, was only around 13k going down the road.

Sure looks like a CP3 at this point. Ken and others, recommendations of what to get? New, reman, who to stay away from? (Pensacola)

Then on the dash lights, I found a used SN BCM for $65 shipped. Now I need to find a place to flash it.

JR, that Fleece CP3 I installed was of pretty high quality and has worked flawlessly. That or a 10mm or whatever that next larger unit is if you ever plan on moving to a more free state where you can run some tunes

Local place wants to test first making sure there are no air leaks.

Ind Inj pumps start at $800, plus about 1500 labor.

Man, almost everything under the hood can cause that code. (Exaggerating)

So now there's no fuel in the oil?

When I have to carry the warranty on something that major, I usually use dealer parts. I've only done a handful of those, but they never came back! Lol

I saw that sale but not going in until next week for it.

Good post Nate, but with a pump pulling fuel should no issues and the are ten of 1000's doing it with no issues. My code was 0089, but see 0087 can be the same. Local guy said the filter was fine on the phone.

Hopefully Monday I will know.

Local diesel shop checked it out and said only issue is the sender cap leaks a little. Not sure how that lets air into the system vs just a vent, but will repair.

Lift pump not pumping even hot wired and need to address that.

Running good but still loosing prime off/on, guess I'll check the filter O rings.

Looking at lower control arms for the lift. See them from $65 to $300. Moogs and Delco are about the same, $120, Delcos have a lifetime, Moogs are 2 years. Then the cheapo's on rock and others.

Ken and Nate, any feedback on any of these? Don used the Oriely's I think.

Thx

The more I used Moog the less impressed I was. I've recently switched over to Mevotech...the TTX series. Haven't had to warranty any yet and I have a couple farm customers abusing them going on 3 years or so.

I don't think the delcos would be a benefit. They're not the same as what came on the truck.

If you do use Moog, stay away from the R series, that's the budget line. Use the CK series.

Cool, rockauto has those for even a better price and the warranty is 5 years.

They show 2 grades, economy and professional. Is the pro what you get?
