The boys and I are off on our guys trip to Florida. My brother's kid is graduating from high school in Clearwater. My nephew decided to come along. Had a little accident hooking up the trailer. The jaws appeared to be latched so I went ahead and ran the jacks up before I did the tug test. They were not latched. Ripped the plug out, smashed the cord and destroyed the spar tire carrier. A couple hours later we were on the road. Got really lucky there wasn't more damage.

Welp, I’ve been off the grid for a bit. Well not at all but offline I suppose would be more accurate.

Been a busy couple weeks two trips south, and now unwinding after day two of flooring.

Down to bedrooms to do now. A lot of stuff in the way, and really glad most of it isn’t here yet.

Also building a couple ladder trucks for our upcoming fire rodeo and for an annual fire chiefs conference.

These are the ladders.

This was the finished product last year.

Next trip out I think some of our stuff is coming.
Oh yeah, picked up a new to me 24’ v nose enclosed. So hauled a bunch of shop stuff, new quad and sea doo out this time.

Some stuff to go back for HH6 to uard sale or whatever she does.

Glad to see lots else going on.

Still working on my floors. Plan has changed twice now with little/no support so I do what seems right. (plenty of odd feedback)

Tore a washer motor down yesterday that wouldn't start, hummed nice! Found the starter board hanging loose in the case (supposed to bolt on top case). Located a new board in Sac, will get tomorrow.

I have been cleaning the side of my house now for 2 days. It was getting bad and now insurance companies out here don't like seeing "clutter" since all the big payouts.

So for the last couple days I have cleaning up the side of my house (you know the side where everything gets dumped/stored) See above post.

It was WAY overdue. Getting things was a chore sometimes and I have found so much stuff that was not easy to locate before. Cept for a few milk crates, most everything was on wheel of some kind. Found a spot where rodents are getting into the house I will address. Didn't really throw out much unless you count dirt/leaves.

Back near my shed is still cluttered some, but better. Can barely get into the shed now since I moved a bunch of wood in there. I "started" making a rack, but started is the word.

Already moved several things back to the side and about 6 tires and old ladder are now on the other side of the house. Wish I had a before pic to share, but no.

Got down to Kentucky and realized my trailer brakes quit working. They were working at the last stop so I took the last few miles slow and easy.
Replaced the plug and now it all works again. When I dropped the trailer we just spliced the cord where it was smashed. It appears to be damaged here too. Missed that before. I am going to strip this all back and see if I can find the broken wire.

Spent a few days near natural bridge Kentucky. It's not a long hike but it's a little rough for a chubby 50 year old.
Trying out the Loves RV stop in Loudon Tennessee. 60 bucks. Full hookups. A little pricey but very convenient. I 75 above Knoxville is horrible. Had to dodge pot holes everywhere.

So the fuel line on on the Kubota generator decided to come apart and dump 5 gallons of fuel all over the bed. So that was my excitement for the day. Ruined my big 12 person cabin tent. But I guess I'm still better off than that hay hauler we seen on fire headed the other direction.
Spending the night in Ashburn Ga. This place is awesome. $45 a night with a $10 coupon for the store.

Boys have been busy.

Dodged the bullet thanks to the Lord for no damage from all the storms.  My “experiment” of two 36 inch culverts with 36 tons of rock came to an abrupt end at the ranch after torrential rains washed it all down stream.  I have now recovered the culverts from the creek and will be putting them up for sale.

Plan B will be a low water crossing me thinks.  I may have to buy a track hoe and use it for a year and sell it.

Standby generator at the ranch has a fault which I think is the control board….

Appointment this week for the Houston house for a 48kw whole house generator.  Grid has gotten very unreliable in the last 5 years and time to solve that problem.

Youngest on her way to the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M this fall and oldest is done with sophomore year at Mizzou.

Next two years will be maximum negative cash flow as money goes to two universities.

Bus is limping along and I need to decide to yank motor and get busy or bite the bullet and buy some DEF laden boat anchor dually.

Glad you boys are doing well.

Tex,
glad to hear you're ok   I have a low water crossing at the farm. I helped the previous owner repair the old crossing - two large white Oak trees and a bunch of nailed down bridge planks. He had the concrete crossing installed a few years after that. It works great except the upstream side footer isn't deep enough as water is running underneath at one end .
not sure of the thickness of concrete but it has been holding up tractors so far.   trying to correct it I dumped a bunch of big rocks last week trying to slow/divert the water toward the center where it is working ok.   During a couple big storms in the last few years the crossing was probably at least 10' deep and 40-50' wide.   Normal flow is usually 2-3" deep  X 3' wide year round.   Just go deep on the upstream footer.

Back from a week in Yellowstone. Lots of hiking, had snow first night we were there. Temps were in high 40’s - low 60’s all week during the day. Had to pull fresh water line every night due to freezing. Kept the tank heaters on at night. Other than one morning at 2am I woke to find furnace not light and had to switch tanks and reboot controller.

Saw just about every critter at least once on trails with the exception of cats, no cats. There were a couple close encounters with bears on one hike that I wasn’t as prepared as I should have been regrettably. Below is my take on that hike.

Short 2.3 mile loop trail along the north side of lake Yellowstone. We hiked this early last Weds morning between rain storms blowing thru with 20-30mph winds. It was about 600 yards down the trail that we encountered a french couple. They were the only ones on this trail that morning by the single vehicle in the parking lot. They told us they had not ran into any animals at all. The female did note it was really cold along the lake. After the fact I now believe they walked to the lake and back and did not actually hike the full loop. Go figure, I should have known the French would give up after a little wind and cold……

We then proceeded a couple hundred yards further to the lake shore. Beyond this the trail ran another 100 yards before it Y’d to start the loop. Shortly there after we had just crossed a deep channel or ravine that ran down to the lake.

It was then that we were growled at by a grizzly, I am certain. Unfortunately, due to the terrain we could not see it. Wife had music playing, I stopped to pee and was facing the north into heavy downfall. Wife was facing south behind me standing up on a log that was on the edge of a steep embankment about 40’ above the lake looking out upon it.

Over the wind and the music while mid stream it let out a considerable lengthy growl. I knew immediately it was a grizzly. I turned to wife after checking down the trail from where we had just come and asked her if she heard that. To which she replied yes. She stated she wasn’t sure what it was and thought maybe it was a wolf!?! I took a double take of her to see if that was an honest comment, it was! She then said let’s turn back and I told her we can’t as that is where the growl came from. This animal was down wind of us from where we had just walked, I personally didn’t think walking toward it was wise.

We quickly moved on down the trail. I did not answer her questions in order to keep her moving and not get her more nervous than she already was. At this point I was seriously regretting not strapping on the 10mm that was in the truck with hard cast bear loads, instead had just left on my g48 edc. The trail opened into a large clearing along the lake for a good half hour of the hike. We saw nothing until we had to head back into the Forrest towards the area we were growled at.

We didn’t get 60 yards into the thick Forrest and I saw a black bear run across maybe twenty yards in front of us. I knew it was a black bear but could not get a good enough view to know if it was a cub or an adult. That fact didn’t help my confidence. At this point the bear spray came out and I removed the safety tang. The trail narrowed and had us climbing over dead fall and scanning slowly as we worked our way thru this portion of the trail. It was frankly unnerving with a narrow trail and short sight visibility due to the dense forrest and deadfall’s lining either side of thd trail. The wife was yelling “hey bear” all along this portion of the hike making as much noise as possible. Kudos to her

Luckily we progressed all the way back to the truck without another incident with the exception of the bison that decided he likes Ford trucks blocking us from our vehicle, couldn’t blame him honestly…….

With all that stated, we were more prepared then 99% of the people we encountered on trails last week. I wasn’t as prepared as I should have been though that day. Moral of the story, don’t underestimate even the short easy hikes in bear country. This should have been the least difficult hike we took last week. In physical terms it was the easiest but also the most dangerous.

and

All good problems to be suffering from, well except for the culvert thing.

New DEF duallys are not so bad. Mine is a pleasure except for the parking. Parking is no fun

There are folks in the Canada doing the delete packages post-warranty.

Buy it, let GM or Ford or Mopar suffer the ownership for 60K then convert it to whatever you want (My plan)

Glad all is good Charles, as for the truck bite the bullet and buy a new one. As Don says when the time comes you can decide if you want to delete it. I just bought a new GMC Sierra 3500 and so far am really happy with it.

Shawn that reminds me of a trip to “camp Loll” on the Yellowstone boarder as a kid.  We had a group of 12-15 ish walking on our 50mile scout hike.  The leader behind us kept asking if one of was farting, which kept us moving along at a pace to not smell the fart.  Years later at a camp fire laughing with PoVey, he told me there was a bear walking short behind us.  He could hear it grunting and snorting, he could smell its stink.   Didn’t want to panic the 16ish age scouts.

Yellowstone isn’t a place for the educated I guess.

Today was dock day.
And what a beauty it was.
Woke up at 06:00 to don’t it was 45 out and not 36 like it was supposed to be and winds were 2-3 mph. Best kind of dock weather.

It’s just over four miles from the marina where my dock winters to the crib at the cabin.
I pulled back off shore at 07:40 and was off to the races.

Cruising right along. This is about the limit as much faster the far end starts to push underwater.

So calm….

Yard looks good, grass is a startin.

I hit the crib blocks at 08:39 and was allowed and posts in at 08:45.
Dock is in cabin is open.

Proceeded to open some water lines to start draining antifreeze. Cleaned up the spot the mill is going and started filtering last years water that survived the winter in the tote. I left about 150 gallons in one as an experiment to determine if it was a good idea or bad one.
Well, it survived. But, should have been filtered and chlorinated last fall…so doing just that now. Will be good to go next week.

I subscribe to Epoch News. I find it a great source for a 1X or 2X daily read to catch up.

The research articles and in-depth reporting are really good...

Anyway, I just ordered "Patriot Razors" and blades (I went with 4-blade) this morning. I had been using Harry's gay/woke blades forever. I had subscribed to where they send you a supply every month and had accumulated a ton of the things when I learned they were a total LBGT, mostly "G" business. Made me sick, but I had to admit they sell darned good blades!

So I quit buying and am exhausting my supply when on Epoch news today, I read about the "PATRIOT BLADES." It's made for folks who don't sign up for the whole inclusive thing (Honestly, I want exclusion back). No bull crap, just shaving blades. So, I'll see how they perform...will report on them in time.
