OK, why get rid of a newer tractor in favor of an older tractor you ask?

Good question!

With the farm growing and the tasks increasing I simply outgrew the 1025. It is really just a lawn mower for the drive, and some area we frequent in the fields, while the rest of it gets bush hogged with my 4720 JD Tractor.

The little 1025 has an interim tier 4 emissions compliant engine. That measn the EPA is involved in the creation of this thing. That means the design is created by tree huggers who all share the same lack of common sense. The older 2720 has none of that nonsense!

The 1025's loader can hoist just 500 pounds, and I can tell you, I have never been impressed by its loader's performance. It was its absolute limit just lifting the sawmill head onto the tracks, and then only did it with a bucket curl and not by muscling it into place. The 2720 can lift around 1100 pounds. Above that, my 4720 lifts around 2400 lbs, and I think my Case 1150B lifts lifts 7 tons or something ridiculous like that. Anything over that and I'll call a bro from Ft. Campbell to fly a Chinook up and give me a hand!

The 2720 has 31 horsepower, while the 1025 has 23. Pulling a 62" deck the 1025 labors in three week old farm grass/weed growth. I operated a 2720 in the past with a 72" deck that didn't know the mower deck was cutting, it just pulverized everything!

My 1025 had a 62" deck, the 2720 has a 72" heavy steel deck

This 2720 was a left over from a failed JD store that lost it in inventory. It was discovered in a barn. Although it is 5 years old, it comes with J Deere's new 6 year zero deductible powertrain warranty and the 2 year bumper to bumper (Which I definitely use!)

The dealer discounted all this so much it was right down there with the cost of the 1025, and much, much cheaper than the current two series tractors.

So it's an excellent buy!

And I scored on a loader as well. The new replacement loader, a H-130 that retrofits to this tractor lifts 717 pounds. This dealer had one 200CX loader left over as well, still in a crate. That loader is rated to lift over 1100 lbs, so quite a bit of difference right there. When I get my next implement, which will likely be a wood chipper, and hoping to get like an eight inch one, this tractor will be able to pull it. So when I push over the trees with Sarge, I'll buck the root ball, then carry it off with the 4720, grab onto the tree with the new grapple, carry the thing up to the work site, then buck the branches, and grind them up on the spot, and haul the log off to my sawmill. I'll use the wood chippings for my trail system. Right now we are building in our first walking trail, a couple miles long, called "Ephesians Trail" where you can read and study the whole book of the Ephesians during your stroll.

So new tractor it is!

I'm just laughing they gave you a warranty! They don't know about this website do they? Or are you part of their heavy testing group now?

Good luck with it! I completely get the decision!

I'm wondering why he bought another JD with all the cursin and troubles they've caused you...  :knucklehead:

Speaking of JD -- came across this the other day and thought it was quite interesting. Mind you, its for the bigguns, but wouldn't surprise me if the little ones had something similar.

I personally like the older tractors better. We have 2 8300 John deer tractors from the late 90s. They are my favorite. But they don't have auto steer and my planter don't have markers so I use my second favorite to plant beans and the cover crop with. An 07 8330. The newest, a 8345 has all the crap on it. So Does our combine. I don't like them at all.
A few days after getting the combine we had a business band radio installed. Later that day a tech from the dealer showed up. He said we can't find your combine. I pointed at it and said its right there. He said yea I see it but it dont show up on our computer. The radio man accidently cut the wire attached to the antenna that sends signal to the satellite that keeps track of where the machine is at all times. That kinda freaked me out a little bit. I can log into my John Deere .com and it will tell me everything. A detailed map of everwhere the machine was all day. The operating temp. The oil pressure. The fuel level. If its moving or stationary.  The technology is crazy.

There is rumors of Gm and Ford doing similar to lock you out of the computer programming software.  They built the software we just use it and us changing it (EFIlive) is altering their software

The little Deere tractors are a different bet entirely. No factory communication, but they do break down. The several times my 4720 broke down were hard breaks that were beyond my ability to troubleshoot or repair.

These things I own are barely tractors at all, but for my 90+ acres they are all I currently need. Once I get my place up a bit over 400 acres (My goal) I'll need something a bit larger along with an excavator and a few Mexicans.

This dealership is the only one I have used for the past 15 years, so, yea, they know me quite well!

Good dealer support is a must. And stay on the good side of the mechanic. I ended up being pretty good friends with the parts guy. That comes in real handy.

Nice toy Don.

It took EFI years to finally unlock the dodge trucks. The GM LBZs were the last year the ECM doesn't track what you are doing.

It literally nearly doubles the capacity of the outgoing 1025 and its emission plagued power plant. Yea, it runs rough on startup, while all the tree huger stuff calibrates itself.

This new, well new-old (2012) has none of that horse crap. This one just starts up and idles. Sort of like I think all engines should do.

I think I am going to really love this little machine, being small and fuel efficient, but will run the chipper, and carry stuff about with the forks, as well as doing a lot of materials moving with the standard bucket.

I managed to purchase this thing nearly $5,000 off because it had been sitting for so long.

Hydrostatic drive is about all it has in the way of gee-whiz stuff. I noticed there wasn't as much to service as on my much more complex 4720.

This is a 3 cylinder Yanmar with a dependable normal injection pump...no common rail garbage!

No turbo on this one, just old school straight up oil burner

The front axle is a portal design, and in the case of this unique transaxle, so does the rear. That's a secondary gearbox extending aft that the wheels mount to

This mighty little loader has been real world tested to lift 1160 pounds to 29" height at loader stall. That is just arm lift, not including bucket curl which would add substantially to that. Half a ton++ is darned good for a 1500 lb tractor of 31HP

They are going to replace the plastic bits located all over the tractor to make it new, and we are discussing replacing the seat as well. It is also faded...

This tractor got the 6 year warranty as well as a 24 month bumper to bumper, so I should save a bit the next two years with the multiple failures it will surely have.

That bucket is pretty anemic looking. Not sure what size it is, either a 49", 51" or 53"

It's still proving itself a more capable machine. The wood chipper pallet weighed over 1100 lbs. Tractor grunted, but lifted it. And that was with those hefty pallet forks

Now for one of these:
I'm not real impressed with case equipment. Under powered in my opinion. We have 2 payloaders the same size. Case and John Deere. The Deere blows the case away. Our neighbors have a bobcat skidloader the same size as our Case. No comparison. I don't have anything to compare the mini excavator to but I feel like it should have more guts than it does.

I'm just thinking some day this "Hide Sight" is gonna show up on some NSA analyst screen....he's sitting there scrolling through Sat images....sipping coffee....mindlessly thinking about his weekend when all of a sudden he see's an infrared bloom the size of a small city out in the sticks and thinks "Woah....wait a minute! Get Langley on the hotline....something's going on here!"

Welcome GRN!  Like Texas Redneck , it seems a bit redundant.

This may look like a three vehicle pileup, but in reality it is just aircraft carrier style parking mangement

Does the HH6 GJ have to park out on the street now? That is equipment creep.

Holy crap...That's a lot of Dottin!

Secondly, should-ah-bin first, welcome to red neck numba deux! (Should-ah-bin...That could be some Haji's real name...;-) Mohammad should-ah-bin...)

Lastly, yea, there are some serious over-crowdin' like conditions in the GJ garage. But to the Mrs, it doesn't matter. She'd just push whatever it is out of the way...Jeep bumpers are meant for pushing things, right!

Well guess this thread is shot all to he!!, guess I'll get started on something else...let you gossipers hack away at any credibility remaining here...

Did you add an aftermarket bumper to the HH6 ride? That plastic looks, well like plastic!
