What are you building? / Re: Dave’s house
« on: June 05, 2018, 09:37:33 PM »
I just wondered, I had a shop with 10 foot doors & one with 12 foot. I personally prefer the 10 foot, I have no fifth wheel nor do plan on buying one.

If I ever build again the wife’s side will be 8 foot x 16 foot and mine will be 10 foot square. My side would be double deep versus hers though, this is just my preference after having several places with different setups.

HHI shelter cove harbor on mainland side of island, good place to drink and people / boat watch if you enjoy such things. When life is hectic it’s a nice change of pace, much slower. All summer they shoot fireworks over harbor on weds evening. Small amphitheater down the boardwalk has kids entertainment in the evenings featuring Shannon Tanner (read clean family friendly fun, pretty much whole island is in fact) who my kids have been engaging since they were knee high. A lot of activities can be booked out of this harbor as well and it has shopping / restaurants within walking distance. Beach is a 10-15 min bike ride or 5 min in car and half price of ocean front places. We’ve done both many times but shelter cove usually wins out due to access of entertainment etc.

If I have my way we will retire in low country SC......

If the injectors have been done on the LB7 and the trans is solid I would think hard on that over 6.0 gas rig. Yep, the HD1500 are a 2500 frame but a lighter 9.5 rear which is not a bad rear for a semi float.
Not 100% positive but I think that chassis still only has 6 inch channel instead of the 8 inch.     It’s not the same frame I believe

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Does that matter? What I’m asking is will the 6” not hold up to the hp & torque? Or did they go to an 8” because with all that go, torque and upgrades people decided to overload them and with the add ins it was too much for a 6” frame?

JR, why couldn't you make your own? Essentially build up that ridge (lets say make it 4" taller or whatever) as long as you have enough overhang so water can't get back up inside. Use a fine mesh for air to flow out and cover it with shingles and then cap it like a normal ridge vent. Use vinyl or alum flashing and facia where the mesh isn't on the sides?

Lol just cut holes in the roof and use computer fans with 9v batteries change out every month for best performance

For best results add smoke detector beepers so you & all your neighbors will know when it’s time to change batteries, for added fun disable the blinking light so it’s a guessing game which battery is dead......

I would do the holes up top JR. Fairly simple, efficient, and no fan needed.

Not sure, the ridge beam is 6in wide.  Small holes may work but I would need a 16in+ cap to cover both sides.

So the beam is 6 inch wide, the holes are 1 inch diameter x 2 so 8 inch total or a tad more. Ridge vent is 13.75 wide (quick google of Lowe’s & HD) am I missing something?

If the hole diameter is concern go smaller & more of them. Thinking you can figure out how many holes you actually need pretty easy. Where I live there is code for venting & calculating the amount of holes for surface area is easy too.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Diamonds will lose their value
« on: May 29, 2018, 09:18:24 AM »
So read the article, couple things stand out. First DeBeers owned the diamond market & with a great marketing campaign made everyone believe diamonds were worth their salt. I think the case can be made they were not. Second this article states that it will take a machine to tell the difference between a real & lab grown diamond. I believe that eventually this will undermine the value of the real albeit over priced diamonds.

With all this stated I believe my daughters should not allow their future husbands to go broke for a high dollar wedding ring. I just don’t see the value in it, young suitors be smart.....

As I watched the sunrise today in a still free country I was chatting with a friend who has been on assignment in Kazakhstan for 3 years. It makes me humble and proud to be amongst the 1% of the world blessed enough to be born here and live in relative freedom and security. All of this because of some really hard men and women who give up the niceties of life to secure our liberties.  People who go to hell hole places on earth and kill vermin who want nothing more than to wipe us off the face of the planet.

Some of those men and women never come back and those that do live with some really bad memories of twisted cultures and sick people and the deeds they’ve done to survive and preserve our way of life.

Today may every man woman and child take a moment to remember those who gave all so we could BBQ in peace today. A seemingly mundane event but built on a foundation of blood sweat and tears.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

If it were me I would search around and find the local source who rolls their own steel siding and roofing (pretty common for small outfits to do this now on their own). Tell him what you have to replace (whole ceiling) and you’re trying to do it cheap. They probably have drops (maybe mismatched colors etc) then pull drywall down section at a time and replace with steel. My 2 cents

JR, GLO makes parts for the stock H1’s. I have an order of stuff due to arrive in a couple weeks. As such I’ve run 2-3 different sets on a couple rigs. For 16.5 tires they work well & are ok, thinking I will buy an inexpensive mag set of wheels and set the jk up for 8 on 6.5 Then down the road will buy a nice set of aftermarket beadlock wheels when I do the atlas & full cage if I go that route. Once I get the axles under it and a few small things I may just run it. I don’t plan on crazy stuff any longer anyhow.

Then again maybe Kay killed Norm, buried him out behind a shed & I can buy those wheels at his estate auction?

Got the wife to do a 4 mile bike ride this morning, her first for the year so it was a good start for her.

Picked up two 9# butts which I will post later to throw on the smoker this PM. Been researching tires and wheels for the jk, sent some emails out to see who can give me the best deal one of which was our very own Mark@NTW.

I was trying to buy a set of border patrol Hutchinson wheels from Norm for it but I think that’s a no go now. Tate has the last of my front 60 parts inbound as of end of last week.
