Alternative Energy / Re: Adding more Solar

We don’t use the place in the summer months so hold the air conditioner at around 85 degrees. We are only down there winter months , the furnace runs a lot to keep wife happy but the big electric use is the air conditioner in summer but we set it pretty high.

That is cool. The people down in Bullhead City AZ are saying the contractor and PUD have it some way where a person will never break even.
We have thought about solar panels but one they take away from looks of home and 2 cost never paying back investment. Now if I knew how to set things up and knew where to buy needed supplies I might consider installing. Prices to run the air conditioner and needed repairs that jump up are getting high enough to get my attention.

Hostas Don’t do to good here, the darn deer think they are really good to eat. Looks like you have lots of room to build there Sam. Gravel makes really good finish fill. Spreads easy and easy to finish off the grade.

I need to get my trailer ready for hunting. Need to get the water system cleaned up, bearings done, adjust the brakes, and anything else that comes up. Been busy trying to fix my brakes on the jeep, painting an outbuilding, and general yard work. Just hope the fires stay out of the Entiat area.

JR, did you freshen up the bearings. If that has been sitting for ten years or so bearings might need some love.

That is a nice size trailer. My little 20 ft. enclosed trailer for moving cars around doesn’t get much better on mileage than that and I don’t travel near as fast.

Well, a little over two months ago I set out to bring my new rifle home. I answered a question wrong on application I guess so they said I needed to wait 30 days and resubmit the form. I went back 30 days later redid the form and was told I was one day early so had to wait another 30 days. Got a refund for the rifle and left.

General Vehicle Related Discussion / New tool box for my truck
« on: July 03, 2024, 02:33:10 AM »
I needed to have some dry storage for my truck since it is a bit wet around here. My last rig I had a canopy. That worked ok for the most part but my knees won’t let me do that again. After a lot of looking at tool boxes for a month or so, I decided to get a Decked brand tool box. Ordered it online and am very happy with how fast it got to me. It will hold most everything I carried in the canopy and will still have most of the bed to use if needed.
My truck is gray with black trim and the box is a black composite so it blends in well, won’t dent, or get paint chips, and waterproof. The latch system and spring style lid opener works great. I am really pleased with the box.
The people at Decked responded to my questions quickly, I used the chat a couple times talked to a real person that responded quickly with good information.

I like the way my glocks shoot. Just qualled with a 23, no issues. I have trijicons on all.

On a 19 I have, the pin hits the primer solid, but no bang 1/2 the time. Tweeking but not rusted yet until I get a bang everytime.
Check length of chamber. Also if reloading, make sure the primers are seated completely. If you are getting a good solid hit on the primer either the case is moving forward or the primer is. I don’t shoot Glock so don’t know the beasts

Zinc plated and powdered, do it right
If I do all that, I'll have to do it after the trip. No time between when it arrives and when I shove off for any lengthy anything. Slap a coat of paint on it and bolt it on. Just as easily, I coat it myself, but the larger and more involved processes will have to wait.
Never enough time to do it right, always enough time to do it over.

Yep, you need a permit to cut down a tree in the city normally, not to trim. I still have some touch up to do but solar production is up almost 5k today and yesterday.

Dang Sam, maybe better springs vs trimming the frame?
JR, the springs are good for 7k or better. The issue was about 2” of travel before frame slap.
If I drive normal speeds on normal roads likely would never be an issue.
Ive spent too much now on axles and tires to not do the mod.
The good news was I got new brakes out of it and they all work again.

Now did you do a full removal of that tree or just clean it up?
Glad it’s working for your solar.
.
That looks like very deep frame rails anyway. And you kept the loading height the same

Sam, my hearing doc told me the 357 is the hardest on the hearing of most any caliber. I can hardly hear without aids and they only help a little.
Funny part is, with all the shooting I have done, the 357 is probably the least shot of anything in the safe. Hearing protection is a great thing to use but in my younger years hardly anyone wore them including me. Can’t say my hearing is gone because of shooting but it didn’t help.

I have a Ruger no. 1 stainless 45/70. Has a fixed front blade with an adjustable ghost ring rear. That setup works very well, bring it up to my shoulder and the front blade is centered in the ghost ring.

29
The biggest thing as I see it, is Don agreed to give up the ability to use his property for typical  things people want to do. But they also didn’t hold a gun to his head when he agreed and bought.
This place we have here in AZ has HOA rules that really suck but we knew going in they sucked.

30
So you either expand the existing garage, or sell the place you raised the family in but now don’t need the extra room. Rent a place until you build at the farm.
Or maybe Shawn can help break the current HOA rules.
Good luck with jam you are in.

Other than corn what are your plans. Hope you are looking for wood and not garden planting area

32
Don, that is was I meant, build a nice covered area for it at home. Doesn’t need to be attached to existing home just somewhat near. Run power and a water line even if you don’t ever use them. Covered storage really helps when time to sell the place. If it rests in its spot you don’t need to worry about trying to roll it around.

33
Years ago my dad had a cab high camper we used for hunting. One year we came home parked in the garage unloaded the little camper and while pulling out of garage to storage area the vent cover hooked the top of garage opening removing the top vent and also left some damage to roof.

Fire up the mill and make enough material for a camper storage structure. Build a couple stands to hold the camper off the ground while stored and store them there while camper is in use.

Please include our Granddaughter (Adrianne) in your prayers.

My wife got a call this morning from our granddaughter in Indiana that her husband played the suicide card on her this morning after a heck of a fight. She bundled up the kids and went to her girlfriends home. Protective services was called and they took immediate action. Including committing him for surveillance. Adrianne’s mother is flying back to be with her and the kids. Thanks guys I really appreciate the good words to our Lord Jesus.

« on: March 10, 2024, 06:03:59 PM »
Well I bought a new rifle to use while driving around in my jeep looking over the area. I didn’t like loading the 30 06 every time got out to look around and then unloading before moving on.
The new one is a Tikka superlite in 7mm 08 with an extra clip that holds 5 rounds. It has a ss fluted barrel to help keep the weight down and with the light rifle being just over six lbs the 7 mm08 runs
shouldn’t be too hard with recoil.
Soon as I get back home, I will start working up a load and breaking in the barrel.
My first clip style rifle, so even if I venture out on a ridge at least the extra rounds will be contained and not rattling around in my pockets.

Firearms / Re: Trying to buy new rifle while in Az for winter

Well I was finally able to get a rifle headed to a FFL at home.
He will hold it for me until late April when I get back up there.
The biggest problem was the fact that the ffl guys I have used in the past have retired and or just let the license expire.
The rub is the fact that last winter I was able to buy here and not have to play the silly games.

Being down in Az for the winter and buying a new rifle just don’t go together. You can not believe the stuff I have gone through.
I can’t buy in Az because I am not a resident and k because I am in Az I can’t buy in Wa so far. Our democratic governor has managed to really clamp down on buying any gun, pistol or long gun. I don’t plan on returning to WA before end of April no one wants to sell and hold a rifle until I can pick it up. Paid for or just ordered. Oh well I guess the libs are so afraid I will shoot up the town with a 3 round clip, they have found a governor with the same mindset to keep guns away from everyone for any reason. And the new firearm saftey requirement, what a joke.

Everything Trailer, Camper, or RV related / Re: What about a truck camper?

Our neighbor down here has a camper for when he pulls his horse trailer. He has a step system that folds up and lays just inside the door while traveling. Piece of channel steel fixed to rear just under the door to hold the top part when in use. Nice option I haven’t been around before but looks really good.

And that is why they sell all styles of R/V’s. I wish I could afford a diesel pusher, but till then I will keep wishing
If you end up with a camper, be sure to put a good heavy duty jack package on it.

Everything Trailer, Camper, or RV related / Re: What about a truck camper?
« on: February 25, 2024, 11:06:47 AM »
Well the way I see it.
If you are looking for something a bit roomier a camper isn’t much of an answer either. They cost about the same as midsize 5th wheel or pull trailer and either will give you lots more room. My folks did the camper thing so they could pull a boat around. We took it hunting too but only one person at a time could move as there is just not much room in them. Other than the climb up the ladder thing you really have more room now than in a camper and you still climb up to get to the bed.
Either a pull trailer or 5th wheel is much easier to drop from the rig once you get to where you want to explore and many places require the truck camper stay as one unit.

And for what the real stuff costs now, why not.
And the butter is the real stuff.
When the dairy sells the milk to company it is sold by butterfat content not just quantity. A Butter churn used to be in most every country home.

I use a cross draw and a chest rig for my single shot 14”single shot pistol. I like the chest rig setup a bit better cause it is up out of the way better when going through the brush.
I do think you guys are being a bit over concerned about being part of a grizzly encounter. Yes there are bears in the area you are headed but if you keep the camp cleaned up and and food properly taken care of, your chances of bear problems goes down considerably. Yes I have friends who were hunting in bear country the same time salmon were running in the streams. And yes they had game hanging in camp and yes there was a bear problem. But don’t think you will have any of those conditions.

Sounds like you need to look at a diesel pusher motor home with a tow setup for the Jeep. Go to where you want to play set up “camp” unhook the jeep and enjoy yourselves. I don’t think you have near enough under the hood to ever be happy with what you now have and what you expect of it.
