So, after reading a few articles, it appears she's had a few helo squadron commands, and a couple vessel commands. It is strange that a rotor head is going to be commanding a CVN. I could see her commanding an amphib assault carrier, due to their primarily rotor wing complement. I think this goes back to her being an academy grad from '94. That was the first class graduating to allow women in "combat / aviation" roles. She may be squared away in her career, but I tend to agree with this being politically motivated. We'll see what happens. I wish her luck.
I commend you on your attitude
I (having no irons in the fire) think there were probably a bunch of better candidates. When it comes to command of something this big, and often ordered smack into the middle of some pretty touchy situations (Isn't a carrier battle group hovering near Taiwan at the moment??)I'd want as seasoned a commander as we can produce whether it be man or woman, black white or blue, old or young, tall or short, hairy or bald. None of that would matter as long as the selectee had a history of getting things right. No allowance for politics whatsoever.

Don't forget we had to lower the standards to create this equality. so by definition she must exceed the standards to break even with her male counterparts. There IS a better candidate, probably several. anyone getting the senator from GI Jane vibes here? My AWACS flying buddy that was on the Lincoln for years would be s'ing frisbees right now. I'm sure she's very good, just like the affirmative action hires that took up space in my engineering department when better candidates were available...

Update: I have been using the stock transmission tuning now for weeks, driving 4-5 times a week.

The shift out of first now happens almost immediately so the hard shift that used to be there is almost gone.

But

When I use the towing mode that shift rises to a higher MPH and again, sadly, shifts hard to very hard

So I am putting a stop to all that. This week John at SS Transmissions is installing a rebuilt valve body with the Sonnax shift improver kit installed.

Everyone who uses that shift kit loves it. The Trans-Go kit is absolutely NOT THE WAY TO GO! I guess it works well for sled pullers or drag racers or people who just don't care (The type who run "Rollin-coal tunes" or with no mufflers, you know, those without brains) but 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999% of everyone else likes the Sonnax stuff.

Nuff said, that thing will be a part of the Burb's DNA as of Friday, this week.

Moving ahead, the truck still feels like it has very little power. Granted, that is due in part to having 37" tires, and part to being heavy, but 600 horsepower ought to do something. After a conversation with John, he feels the fault lies heavily with the converter.

So I called Monster transmission to talk that through. In a nutshell, the converter I have in the truck is all wrong for this application. It is rated for around 350HP, has a higher stall than factory and is more or less light duty.

My heavy truck needs a lower stall converter, not a higher stall converter. It also needs to accommodate a lot more power, like the later diesel converters handling thousands of ft/lbs of power. After some discussion, I learned that the converter I am using will break or has broken and simply is overloaded in every area.

They agreed to build me a fully customized billet converter with triple discs, anti ballooning welding and plates, and all the good stuff. They will warranty it for years to handle in excess of 900 HP.

So for $1299, I placed my order

https://www.monstertransmission.com/-GM-Chevrolet-4L80E-Diesel-Torque-Converter--Thor-HEAVY-HAMMER--Level-2_p_16586.html

Been selling to those guys for years, even trained their phone team on diff parts at one time. Good folks.

I'm on a Robert Trent Jones course and have a guest room, just sayin. looks like fun
My morning will be spent as a volunteer for the korn ferry stage 1 qualifing school.

For those that may not know, the korn ferry tournament is the precursor to the pga.  Unless you are so good that you get a major sponsor, all pga hopefuls must go thru yhe qualifying school, make the actual korn ferry tour and hope they score well enough to get their pga card.

I may have been a little premature in my statement about being out of the Wagyu business. We had a conversation and hashed out some details. After harvest our cattle barn will be full again. And he had us chop 60 acres of silage. He will be purchasing that from us through the year to feed not only the cattle at our place but his entire herd.
Had one major break down. Tore the rear end out of a truck. Had to finish with the bosses good truck. I let Jasper finish up the last round. He was really proud.

"Crows" and whitetail are like rabbits out here. no one on the golf course side would shed a tear if they all wound up in my freezer. 3-4 dozen a night wander into the school ball field and eat the nice grass, on the golf course side, they jump our fence to eat the flower buds etc. but the Turkeys are like giant chickens; scratch and dig and uproot and crap everywhere.

Southern OR is pretty "us type guys" friendly, part of the reason we moved here. although the Kommie Kate laws have trickled down, so you can be flagrantly high as a kite in public and there's not much they can do about it. I'm not very big, but I can do a very deep booming Dad Style, HEY! when I need to. Had a tweaker start walking my way with my daughter and just yelled, "HEY, don't be bringing your crazy over this way!" Dude just about faced and started back towards the corner. had a guy come up to me later in the store and tell me they were packing and watching in case he didn't back down. I think we're about fed up here.

That's a handy tool to have around. We have a couple of them. Somewhere.
Speaking of tools we lost a great man recently. He came round once a year selling tools and shop supplies. I always looked forward to his visits not only to see the latest and greatest but for great conversation. When he was overdue for our visit this year I started asking around and found his obituary. I know this isn't the prayer thread but say one for his family anyway.

Finally bought a cheetah style tire inflator. Tried it out on an old Hummer tire that deflated. I ran these on my old truck 20 years ago and had to use acetylene to mount them on 16.5s at the time. I had tried cheetahs and starting fluid with no success.

Only reason the tank worked this time is because the beads had memory.

ratchet strap and starting fluid. quit being a sissy Ken.  those things are worth their weight in gold on those old bias ply swampers though.

Its nice here with just a tad of haze. Guess Tahoe basin is just socked in, events canceled and such.

0-50 air quality is normal. beijing avergages 38.6 which is considered polluted. we're at 139 today and hit 367 two weeks ago. couldn't see a half mile down the road. betting that's what Tahoe is like right now.
In the height of our smoke this year we were down to about 500 yards, was bad.
Light haze now so 1000% percent better.
I'm not a fan of the eerie orange when it gets that thick.

The one thing that I would question is fuel pressure. Probably a lean condition. Since it wasn't backfiring before, something changed. Tuning usually doesn't change, and I can't tell you how many GM application fuel pumps I've warrantied lately, no matter the brand. They're ALL junk...Denso, Delco, Spectre, Carter, etc. If the pumps aren't failing, the dang level sensors are.

That being said, I don't remember if you put in a race pump or not.
That's not it ken.
I have a "Race/forced induction" fuel system in there. It has large lines and two very high capacity fuel pumps. One for normal and the second kinks in above 7psi fuel pressure.
And here's another thing
Since I had it supercharged, that was the first time I ever stuck my foot into the throttle that far for that long. I just don't hot rod around all that much

underperforming injectors maybe?

it's about the only thing you can break, and it's really only under a heavy shock load

For the record I was in favor of Shawn carrying a spare.

Tate it did buck in a straight line a couple times. Other than putting it in the grass and seeing if it spins in both how would I test it?  And what all is involved if I have to replace that part?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

pull from the housing, split the case in half, swap the broken small rings out which are outboard and easy to get to with unbroken ones and install is reverse of removal. pretty straight forward

wet grass is honestly a good test, w/ two buddies so no one has to stand behind it.

So question for @eltate  do you think any damage was done to the grizzly driving it for that long with mismatched tires?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

if it starts bucking in a straight line, you broke the clutch hold out ring. otherwise it's pretty tough. you can remove it making the action much more aggressive, like serious off road action, or I can send you a new set, either way. if it drove normal after you put the same size tire on it, you're probably fine.

It's happening all over the internet with the huge demand in truck and car parts. Companies are racing to the bottom on the lowest price bid to compete w/ Amazon to get the sale while cutting their throats in the same breath. I deal with it daily. Just ask Seth, half my stuff you can get on Amazon for less than i can manufacture it because they don't care about losing $$ on items because they make it hand over fist in subscriptions. point being, if Amazon is the seller, and it's several hundred under whatever everyone else is selling it for, buy it. might not ship, but if it does their loss and your gain. i can't win with forcing them to adjust MAP agreed upon pricing, so I'm letting people know about it so they get hosed in the margins. maybe after a while they'll see the losses add up...
