Well at 06:00 I awoke to this.

Oh snow my friend how have I missed you. You have came back twice this week now...
I am a winter guy, but once the ice is done and I accept summer then let's get on with it.

I think I'll buy a lottery ticket. I never thought I'd see this thread alive again.

You are really close Don. I think the front springs are flat because you have a 9000lb bumper on it.

Fixed it for Ya!
I'm also shocked by the settling, have you put the leaf you removed back in. It's been so long I've forgotten.

Yeah it's pretty ugly under there in spots.
As ugly and messy as it all is, it's seemingly surface rust at most.

I have this delusion to pull the box and lift the cab a bit to do some PM and dirt removal.
The engine degreaser is going to sit a bit and with any luck next wash will have that area clean and I'll slather some undercoating back on.

I'm truly amazed that I still have paint on the underside of the cab.

I let the undercoating set up while I tried to get the steering stabilizer off.
I need a better pickle fork or another method. Couldn't budge the dang thing.

So I moved to some grease removal. Two cans of engine degreaser later and I might get a bit of the mess gone. It's pretty thick.

Pushed the new box up and in and reconnected the pitman arm and mount bolts.
Then even tough I replaced them a few days ago, I replaced the O-rings on the power steering lines.

Slapped everything else back on topped up the PS oil and did a bleed on the jack stands.
Hopefully I am done with this for a while.

For the record the pitman arm nut is 1 5/16", and I had to go to work to do it. Set in garage only goes to 1 1/4" and 32mm.

So arm installed with a road trip.

Added some undercoating to the bare metal of the pitman arm.

One super oily mess. It was the sector shaft seal that was the culprit on this one.
A lot of the oil was from me topping up also, aim was not good and the mess was there so oh well happened a few times.

Hey look at this...the parts are right this time!

Then loosened and removed the lines from the box. Tomane the required real estate for removal of the box I took the clip off the crossmember and undid the clip on the fan shroud to get the lines outside the frame.

Then split the pitman arm off of the steering. My pickle fork was too small and a big hammer came to the party.

Out with the three steering box bolts and its loose.

Holding your tongue the right way and eating four pounds of oil impregnated muck the box and arm will come out together.

Ok, so it's supposed to snow again tomorrow, so it was time to get off my butt and change out that steering box, again.

Jacked up stands in and skid plates off.

Then wheel off fender liner stripped and intercooler pipe out of the way.

Next split the steering shaft off the intermediate shaft and removed from the box.

So, since I started this wayyyy back whenever, seems like a fitting place to conclude this saga.

We'll start by playing parts!

Here we have two boxes and a pail full of undersized Napa junk.
Got the wrong one first, then had another wrong one shipped. Grrrr.

Buddy said give up on them and get it from gmparts online.

So I did. They showed up today.

And for several hundred less, new steering stabilizer as well.

Now, here's the comparo shot. Seems like our dear friends at Napa are trying to pass half ton parts off for the 2500's.

I think it speaks for itself which is which...

To be continued soon.

That's pretty nifty.
I'm trying to figure out an easy water supply for the soon to arrive greenhouse at the cabin. Not that the lake isn't an ample supply, having rainwater close by would be nice.
This may be an option for me to consider.

There're also supposed to video it each day.
I think it's the video message that's going to do the most good.

And I've seen some pretty poor push ups to boot. But that's not the point of this.

I think the way society is so social media focussed and dis-attached from reality that this may actually get this message out and sinking in to the masses.

Not exactly sure where to put this.
The above challenge referencing the 22 American sevicemen that take their own lives each day.
It's a challenge to do 22 push-ups a day for 22 days to raise awareness about this immense problem we are facing.

I'm only dropping it here, as it is hitting a lot of my 'Facebook friends' pages, many of whom it has really shocked me from.

This is a very good thing in my mind that this issue has reached into Canada and is spreading like wildfire. A lot of the folks I'm referencing have little to no military involvement either.

Just thought I'd share that even up in the great white north we're thinking about your boys and gals as well.

Would be fun for sure. I could have done it with a skidoo if I really needed to but what I was after was not that important.
The water was colder that cold. Knew it the second my boots filled.

I did not get to the cabin. We've officially hit spring, and I could not get the quad through the water up onto the ice. When my boots filled with water and I was still getting deeper I gave up. Near zero traction on the ice under water, and I still was going to need back on at the cabin. Could have skipped a skidoo across, but no cooling then...

So I wait for softer water.

Yes, as Nate said, enjoy the boot, but use it.
As you're aware, a lot of calf is MIA. Which equates to a lot of strength.

Slow and steady now will be far better in the long run.
You've done the time so far, don't blow it now.

And that's some nasty lookin skin too! :)

I did not tell Sam to get the 33 spline. :(
It's not your fault Ken. Everything is found said it was not going to be the right one...except their dang computer. So I took the chance, and other than the needless R&R of the steerin box no big deal.

Tires, Wheels, and Suspension / Re: Steering box leak?
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:47:57 PM »
Well, here's what I discovered.
Our 2500's have a 33 spline 3 groove output on the steering box.
Not the 32 spline 4 groove that I had with me...
It was the only one they stocked, so must be the one then right...

The parts store had both listed as fitting, and it likely would have, but there are significantly smaller bits to the box and pitman that did not sit well with me.
All I found online suggested that this one was for a half ton, and after comparing the two I would have to agree. Would it work, it may, but with the roads I run, not an option.

So I've got good at the R&R of a steering box.
I'll call them tomorrow and get another on its way to me.

I agree as well.

Ahh, so you had the crank handle end for end, and totally unnecessarily cut the hoist out.

I think we've all had those moments.

2784
I was just in there a week ago on mine. Once I got it loose the latch met angle grinder.

Now to your question, I know you cut the wrong stuff or thing, just can't place it at the moment. Eyes were full of mud from beating shocks off and on...

The story tells me there's more to it, I'm just drawing a blank.

Picked up boat yesterday afternoon. Proceeded to drive through the night to avoid the extra traffic on the road, which was a good idea. Freezing rain, snow, wind were all the flavour of the day.
So according to plan hit the gravel at 23:00 for the last 200 miles. Well it was gooey, greasy, nasty for the first 100 odd miles, then out of the blue turned to pure ice. Good news was I was going so slow from the mud and rock that the ice didn't matter. And at 04:30 I rolled in the driveway, boat home mission accomplished.

Yeah, it's decision time. I'm in the city and can get parts.
Just where to stop. This thing is basically all original save for some front end bits and hoses.
So it really owes me nothing, but deserves the TLC treatment, maybe not to the standard you gave the bus...

Tires, Wheels, and Suspension / Steering box leak?
« on: April 12, 2016, 07:17:29 PM »
So my LBZ is at around 210-15k miles and has in the last couple days developed a power steering leak. I'm not at home, but may still dig out tools to verify the lines are not the culprit.

Anybody know (Ken) is it worth the time changing a seal with this mileage?
From the quick crawl under looks like the input shaft seal not the pitman.

I'm not opposed at throwing a bit of love to it but steering box change sucks in my mind.

If say you're on the right track.
Our son, now 21 and in university had a similar deal.
Now we didn't need the cash, so it was put in an account for school. He didn't have a clue about it, and still has no idea what's left.
The story, he was done HS a full term early wih extra credits and landed a full time job.
HH6 and I wouldn't allow him to drive our vehicles, and due to his dillema he had a car of his own...with the payments that come with. Now a few years later he has paid off the car and is just finishing year two.
Rent and food and even his phone all landed in his account that he had no clue of.

Just an idea if you think there may become ambitions like this and you really don't need the cash.

Well I can't touch what Charles did yesterday, but I trudged through 500 odd meters of knee to waist deep snow pathfinding a trail across my island. Been at this too long to not have it in yet. I've slashed most of what needs done according to the walk, marked and delimbed the trees to make the next step doable in the summer. Then it will be clearing to the peat and I'll have my trail.

You'll want all of about 33-3500 for the camper.
Once the AC gets fired up it doesn't leave any room on a 2000 from experience.
That is as long as the 2000 lights it up.
Somewhere in that ballpark is the running wattage of the AC unit.
So having 33-3500 gives a fair amount of room for other things.

And the face armour has been carved off for the year. A little premature as it turned out this morning. Somehow -25 is cold without it.
