Title: Prayers for Duane
Post by: Flyin6 on July 30, 2015, 11:28:58 AM
Hey bros, one of our own is in a hurt

Duane had an accident while digging a ditch. His back is injured. He was taken to the hospital last night around midnight, but released this morning. He is going back in a little while for a MRI.

He's in a lot of pain

He could use a mention or two pretty please.

May we find the glory He intended in this situation.  May He give grace and comfort to you Duane. Praise Him in all things.

Prayer works, my friends!

He said he came off the pain meds last night and he is up and moving about!!!!!!

If you all could have seen him like I did a couple days ago...drawing painful breaths and unable to move almost at all, and now walking...Well, THANK YOU FATHER GOD!

That's great! Now, you stay away from him. I know the only reason you want him healed is so he can help you take that Abrams Bumper off!

That's great news.
I thought the ESD for that Cummins was going to be out of commission for a while delaying the start date even further.

On second thought, maybe that was not a concern because there may never be a start date.

Thanks for the kind words and prayers, guys.  I'm not quite FMC yet but back in the fight.

First time I had to be transported into the ER.  Historically, hauling the banged-up in for emergency medical care was my role.

I'll be going in to see a back specialist next week.  We'll see what he says.

Thanks again.

Duane, please take your time and get second opinions. I deal with medical statistics and back surgery is a highly variable outcome procedure.  It is probably THE most variable outcome procedure in medicine and more than 30% of surgeries are done unnecessarily and many of those have complications. Unfortunately surgeons like to cut and once you go that route it's often the first in a series that could have been avoided with more conservative treatment.

Think of it like our veterans here. Each branch/MOS thinks their way is the right way to attack a problem. Don wants to fly in low and slip some guys out the back, Bobby wants to come en masse from high altitude and Nate wants to stand off a few miles and send in HE

And so, surgeons mostly want to cut not other more conservative therapies that can provide longer term relief without going through the  one way door that more often than not leads to 2nd and third surgeries.

Praise Him for your relief. And I hope you get a long term recovery.

Nighttime, low level mass-tac parachute assault, vertically envelop the battlefield and all who stand opposed to the forcible entry that is occurring on their AO. Proceed with small unit fire and manuever and liberal application of boot to booty.

Prayers of thanksgiving since I'm late to the party. Think of me too if you don't mind. Kidney stone is kicking my behind this week.

Offering my prayers for you as well! I'll echo what Redneck said about backs. I've had 1 laminectomy and 3 fusions. Back surgeries are like those really great chips, you can't have just one. They're also like great beer, one leads to another.

Please exhaust any conservative treatments including steroid injections first. It could buy you some time and keep you out of the cycle.

Surgeons usually just want to cut. Seek out a highly regarded physiatrist (pain specialist) and see if they can help you first.

Good luck to you. Prayers to you from Colorado.

Checking in to see how you're doing there brother. My L5/S1 disc is a historical mess also. 2 cortisone injections have kept the demons at bay so far, and I agree that avoiding the knife until the very last possible ditch effort is the right way to go. Keeping you in my prayers.

I'm doing much better guys, thanks.  Still not 100% but then again I haven't been that in years.  We'll have to see what the doc and MRI say.

Not sure if you have thought about an acupuncturist but I would definitely try that route. If it doesn't work so be it you can always get the surgery. But if it does work it's non-invasive and can do so much good. I first went to one from a knee injury in HS and have never had anything done to my knees....yet (last MRI said I have the knees of an 85 yo man....I'll need both replaced but I'm too young so far (at least there's one thing I'm too young for!! Ha!) But I love acupuncture for many different things.

Here is something I ran into today that I didn't know. Not that it's a surprise that I didn't know something. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170702/fc44cfb2a5628251a28387eb77418169.jpg)

Dang sorry to hear of this and sorry I'm late with the prayers, but glad you're doing better. I will 2nd TRN's surgery advice not cause I know abt back surgery, I dont, but just that conservative is always the way to go in my mind. You can always go a more extreme route later if needed.

For back pain I find naproxin sodium (generic Aleve) works better than tylenol, ibuprofen or aspirin. But I realize it's for less dramatic back issues. Prayers sent for continued healing.
