Hello all,
I have a 1954 ford f1 and I am wanting to swap the current engine with a 5.9 12 valve cummins. I know my way around diesel motors but the limit of my knowledge is tractors and well motors. I would like to know what kind of transmission y'all would suggest I use. I would prefer a 4 or 5 speed manual but I would settle for a automatic if what y'all suggest is just that reliable. The engine I'm putting in it is NOT going to be for racing or anything like that, just something to go on rides through town and down dirt roads. Thanks for your help

I don’t know about the transmission question but the two guys who answered above know a thing or two for sure
Welcome to the forum. Let’s hear some more about your build?

Ya, welcome to the family
NV4500 would be a sure bet, but not to dismiss a NV5600 for the added gear.
Given what your stated objectives are, NV-4500 with a decent clutch would be my recommendation
And, if you don't mind, post up some pics of your project so we can get a feel for what you're doing

I appreciate your help. At this point I haven't even got it out the weeds yet and it may be some time due to planting season fast approaching. I am getting the necessary equipment ready for when I have time this summer. In addition its going to be a total restoration so it'll be awhile before its road ready.
