Most likely won’t be an issue for you. But.

Have the same one on my work truck.
Front bolts that attach it continually came loose.
Like nuts fell off wiggling around on the box.
The multiple latches kept it onthe box however.
Was bumping the back window as how I noticed most recently.

20k miles only on the truck.

Keep an eye but likely due to the 20 miles of washboard to and from daily.
As a side note I do like it otherwise other the dust it vacuums in off the road.

And the spare LB7 block I have is to replace the one I have that only has 228,000 so I still have time.

Finally, I need a project outlet vehicle. My Jeep is for simple bolt-ons, and I AM NOT going to do anything major to the Ram. But should someone drop a 540 BB Chevy on my doorstep, well, I think I'd find a way to slip it in between the fender wells.

Well.

Gonna get fired now too…

That brown truck will drop any package in your driveway.
Just sayin’.
I was more along the 596 lines but Charles does like to go big.

To be fair, aluminum is terribly fussy to weld.

Successfully.

I broke the trans cooler on my truck.
Our welder at the time, one of the best I’ve ever worked with, couldn’t get it.

I’m sure he tried his darndest.

But ouch that hurts.
Hope you can find someone to help.
The aluminum on that cooler and line look a lot heavier than the soldered together trans cooler was.
But it’s oxidized, oil covered/coated and filled. Don’t hold too much hope. It will be a tough fix.

Replaced front wheel bearings last night.
One sounded like chewing a balloon, that may have been my noise.
Went to rotate tires and couldn’t. Apparently it’s been two years since they’ve been off again…
More bigger hits tonight.

My body panels are on the slow boat it seems.
So mechanical stuff on the go.
Next up transfer case and drive shafts swap.
This weeks goal.

If I’m ambitious may get to door work…

I did a little swapping/upgrading today
What am I looking at?

So you had a last gen D-max LP5...Is this something different?

I took off the diamondback tonneau cover and put an ARE canopy on it.

Now I just need help figuring out some sort of tool, strap, hitch stuff storage so it's not in the way.
I sure did love a truck shell.  Just a pia to store or take off and heaven help me to remove one for a long bed on my own.

What do you mean hitch storage? Like a metal rack to go in your receiver

when i had a canopy on my LBZ, it never came off. if i have to haul larger things, I have either a 10' dump trailer or a 28' enclosed car trailer. so if the top came off, it would be a once in a lifetime thing ... lol (famous last words)

I have a bulletproof hitch system, with a dual 2" & 2-5/16 that stays in the hitch and i have a 1-7/8 that i kept in the truck box along with a couple extra pins.
https://www.bulletproofhitches.com/collections/2-5-hitches/products/2-5-extreme-duty-6-drop-rise

Somewhere to store his ball mount(s) when it’s not in the receiver I’m guessing

I’ve seen these plastic tub things on Facebook lately - made in the USA too. Of course now I can’t find it.

Then there is this stuff, but “not supported” on HDs

https://builtrightind.com/products/bedside-rack-system-rear-panel-chevrolet-silverado-gmc-sierra-2019

Or one (or two) of these

https://realtruck.com/p/undercover-swing-case-truck-bed-toolbox/

thank you ryan, that built right system looks pretty neat. and luckily they do make one for an 18 standard bed 2500. I would have to ponder that $600 - 1000 price tag. the only thing that would make this a no-go for me is that it takes away my upper tie down eyelets ... as this system secures itself in to those 2 holes. i might be able to make it work.

i have seen a few different versions of that swing case, and have pondered it. after watching a clip of the system on a screen that i can see, i could possibly see that as being an option.

Hitch stuff storage goes under the back seat.

I transport dogs back there, so under seat storage is not really an option.

In all honesty, I do not keep items like the list below inside the cab of my truck. I have personal experience and knowledge of just how deadly of a projectile those types of things can become in a rollover. Wendy tries to give me schiff because when i get into the drivers seat of any vehicle, because it takes me a few moments to put stuff in secure places and remove crap that does not need to be in the drivers compartment of the vehicle.

this is a list of what stays in my truck at all times:

1. several different straps for securement of loads in either bed or trailers
2. a set of emergency triangles
3. a 10 ABC fire extinguisher
4. a fully equipped tool bag
5. 2ga x 25' jumper cables
6. 1-7/8 hitch ball
I use a recycle bin at the for the less used items.
Wrench sets, Diesel 911, cables, emergency supplies etc.
I then have a milk crate at the tailgate.
Tail chains, straps, recovery stuff, extra ball mounts.
Ran form the front tie downs to the rear I have a ratchet strap.
This keeps everything reasonably tied in place.
If the space is needed, they all go out real quick.

At 350k miles, my topper has never been off.
It came close when three of the four cheesy aluminum mounting clamp things broke.
It is now secured by 4 (6?) 1/2' bolts and nuts...
So yeah, some don't ever come off.

Since your Jeep-truck is done, you might as well order up one of these from Tate. We could do a side-by-side install.

These parts are all black and blue, so clearly made for your truck Don...
Kind of match your color scheme...

I would not call that a failure.

Space X just lifted the heaviest thing mankind has ever lifted off this planet.

That is really what this historic flight was about, and it was successful.

It is ashamed to mar this momentous accomplishment with the costly loss of the second stage vehicle.

But

Both component parts were scheduled/planned to be lost during this flight anyway

Congrats again, Space X!
Totally agree.

Their only goal was to clear the tower, so mission accomplished!

So an update for everyone...

Don't go live in the sticks...

Everyone hates shipping to me...LOL
Well not LOL, but i have to laugh or I'd go nuts.

One company I'm dealing with (Or tryin to) "Has staff issues", and three weeks after my order say it will be 3-5 weeks to get the stuff.
This is ok if the clock started day one, not so much if not the case. And with their lack of comms, I still don't know this answer a week later.
I won't publicly diss them yet, as I understand fully the tight on staff pinch, although mine is not based on the propaganda of the Dem-panic.
But it would be nice to answer the phone, or an email more than 24 hours apart...
Rant off.

The second outfit, which at least is communicating, is struggling with shipping, as "the courier companies charge a lot to ship to you, do you have an address in Winnipeg?"
Well duh, none of them come here. So, I'm working with them to get in touch with the truck freight companies that do. 700 miles away is no use to me...
At least they answer emails in a timely fashion.
I ordered a new tailgate from them, so awkwardly large for courier, and dangerously small for truck...
Easy button pressed to repair tailgate, however.
If I can get that sorted, these guys have the rockers I need, and the rest I can Rock Auto, who are rockstars apparently.

At this point, my bug free May body and paint work looks to be pushing to June.
I'm not going to sink any battleships just to be a few days late getting stuff and not having the truck road ready for my grandson's birthday.
Apparently, my work tent is requested for the party, so if it was new in box would be possibly better than painted...

OK, just thinking of dumb stuff now, but have you pulled and cleaned ALL, that's ALL of the ground wire connections, everywhere?

That being said you might start checking the continuity of the wires themselves. About two years ago I had a wire pull apart beneath my seat on a John Deere tractor that killed it. It took wire chasing to find that one... One in a million, but with a good mechanic and some time you can track that down as well.

Dumb stuff, you have pulled and checked all associated fuses too, I'm guessing?
I’m kind of with the boss man here.
I think now you’ve got a broken wire or bad connection.
Was running (all good) then sputtered (connection failing) now DIW.
I’m thinking you’ve got some wire checking.
Should be able to find schematics somewhere online. May cost but not like a shop could.

I’d start with those and see if that fixes you up.
I was going I look for my picture if they connector but don’t have to. Lol

Good luck.
PS if you can’t move the seats, try to wiggle the connector. It may get you working to move it all the way forward. Otherwise it’s a real pain to get at.

I can see saving the cab with all the wiring and such, but just get a rust free bed? Sure you may have to drive and get it or have shipped (costly up there). Driving you just drive to bed, switch and drive home. Just an idea?

Dang I love my LBZ and she needs a little TLC too.

I’m over 5k to get one to the border.
I’m still looking but for about 500 bucks and some time I’ll buy a few years I hope.
Then maybe a road trip to Texas or Arizona to find one.
The shipping is the killer.

But you’re right, a rust free bed is in the future, just not this year.

226
That is the switch I just replaced, took me a little to get it clocked right. Alarm went off once so I triggered something when I disconnected the battery a couple times.

There is an anti-theft ring around the ignition and I may have triggered that. Trying to find more info. Looking at high end scanners too, not even sure if my keys are fobs or not. I can check that in the AM at ACE, they do them.

Scanner I am looking into will do it all. Not real cheap but they will do keys and reset about anything. Got 4 vehicles I can use it on right now.
Ok. Somewhere in the age of this they keys contained a chip.
You may be on to something with the security.

That’s where my help ends however.
Or non help as it may be.

May need to go to stealer but not sure what the high end scanners can do.

227
There’s a switch associated with the ignition switch.
Not sure if it’s at all related, but there is a “master” type switch.

Just a thought without thinking too hard.

Well, this is interesting.

So, this is going to keep you on the people side of the river for quite a long time...You good with that? The cabin will be crying out, but the truck will be lovin' it!

My goal is to hit it hard over breakup.
Based on a couple videos I’ve seen and a couple guys hat have done them, the rockers and cab corners “should” only take a couple days. So I’ll call it a week.
Then the box, that’s the great unknown, but that also should only take a few days.
So there’s two weeks I’ll hate myself for.
Heck. Most likely will pull the box off for frame restoring as well as potentially making life easier for paint. Not real sure how it will all play out but I hope I’m three weeks I can knock it out.

That plan “should” get breakup done.
Oh, HH6’s  car will not be around either so there’s that added motivation.

Worst case if I get it to primer I’m better off than I am now.

Hey there.
Another year another project.

Since I refuse to get a new piece of crap sensor laden vehicle, I need to clean up my rust bucket.
Well one or two of those are true.

Cab corners, rockers, wheel wells and wheel houses ordered.
13 x 26 tent shed ordered.
Bodywork stuff inbound and to be picked up shortly.

The I hope I’m not screwing up thoughts going through my mind…

Going to be a project of a different nature this year. Lol.
Just hope it’s warm enough for paint when I’m at that point.

So steps? Tool box? xL fuel tank capacity? speaker upgrade? Paint protection film? Ceramic window tint?
OK, ok, let's define mods

Mods are things that really start to get away from the manufacturers intent. Like a new exhaust or tuning or suspension mods

Things like the floor mats I just ordered, or a different brand oil or oil filter is well within the spectrum of normal stuff...Agree?

So, where you may catch me up is with the AMP research steps. Those are getting a little way apart from stock and do involve some wrenching. But this truck is sort of tall, and Kat is having a hard time getting in and out of it.
I told her I was not going to add steps when she requested them because in legal terms, "it pierces the veil." Sort of like a little tiny leak in a levee on the Mississippi river.
Next thing you know I'm leveling it, a mild tune, some better shocks, and bolting on one of Shawn's diff covers simply because the diff cover is somehow connected to the amp steps.
No, I can't explain how.
And we do not currently have a psychologist on the site to help explain that.
So, suffice it to say, I just know me all too well.
I can't look at a lawn mower without wondering how it would sound with a set of Harley shorties bolted on

Hmmm, come to think of it, that would be pretty cool.

Especially on that tracked terminator mower I own...

Steps: Possibly
Fuel tank: no (for now)
Speaker upgrade: No
Paint protective film: Just waiting for you to recommend which product to buy.
Ceramic window tint: No, no, and absolutely NO. After tinting the Tesla, and the D-Max, I hate driving in a tinted car.

Oh did I mention I spent a bit too much on my wife's new 2+kt nearly flawless and colorless diamond?

And there has long been talk of putting either a 1970 SuperBee or a 70 SS 454 Chevelle in the garage. That talk recently cropped up again...

Based on this…March 1st.
Nice truck chief.

Been a whirlwind week for me.
Had management meetings in the big city last week.
So that was a write off for everything.
Got to see the grandson so that was awesome as always.
8 months this week so crawing and not far from real trouble.

Home late Thursday out to cabin Friday early to warm it up for the boss.
Buddy texted to see when I was home.
Wanted to cut firewood.
So we did.
About two cords each.
I know pics or it didn’t happen.
Y’all gonna have to wait as it’s gonna be a month before we’re back out.
Still needs spit but should be most of my wood needs for a couple years.
Burning diesel has cut my wood significantly.

Back at the boat tomorrow night. Hope to have it all wrapped up by the weekend.

Been hard at the boat this week.
We’re going to Mexico for February so I’ve gotta get it rollin.

Fittin an fussin…

Movin along…

Gittin there.

Vinyl bits all wrapped up.

A big change.

Ah wirin we go…

Re-riggin and gittin rid of the old that ain’t going back in.

New addition. My motor and fish finder both support NMEA2000. I dunno either. Short version is I can get all my engine data displayed on the screen of the fish finder.

Moving along.

So. I’ve got a bit of the wiring back in. Some circuits tested others not so much yet. Got a mystery red with black trace wire that I ain’t got no idea what it’s fer. Got a couple others I’m pretty sure about and then four fuses that were used before that are all empty currently…

“I’m an electrician….I said…how hard can it be…I said.”

So I’ve got a bit of cypherin of some random wires to sort out. The good news is there ain’t that much that uses electrons that ain’t already hooked. So I’m not gonna lose sleep over why the dag gone fuses are blank.

New garmin 95sv to add to the dash, complete the re-rig of the controls, add a couple seat pedestals and I think it’s getting that close. I’d wager a few more nights of wiring and it will be close.

I have the Cog steering brace, PPE tie rods, Kripto uppers and new stock lowers. New timken bearing units with the lift.

Adjusted the steering box twice, still have about 3in free play.

Sounds like your steering box is about worn out then.

I guess it was worth it. I was just on a mission to replace everything when I re did the lift. The original only had 135k on it

I put the cognito steering brace kit in mine when I did the motor swap.
That is the solution for the front end slop our car front ends contain.
The opposite wheel anticipates the movement from the one you push.

When I did my garage I did OSB bottom four feet, drywall above.
It’s served the purpose of keeping holes out but wish it were all OSB. Make hanging small things better than falling out of the drywall…

I primed and painted white with one of the airless sprayers.
Was a white cloud but very fast and done.
Coming along very well.
