siracha, mayo, a little ketchup and honey makes for a slammin' fry sauce for sweet potato tots. That's the real deal. I'll back you up on siracha's goodness any day bobby.
Fantastic SPF sauce.
I'm more a Frank's guy, but siracha mmmm...

Another on the cheap.
Buy the cement board.
Buy some light gauge sheet metal.
Make stand offs 1" long out of small diameter tubing copper is cheap and easy to cut. Place stand offs behind sheet metal and screw to wall. Gives you a 1" airspace behind the metal.

On the chimney, I put full on Selkirk in my sauna as well. Now you have more height.
Not sure if Sears sell the stuff in the US but they do up here.
They make double wall telescoping sections, providing nearly the heat of single wall. Transition it to legit insulated chimney at the roof and done.

Best of both worlds in my mind.
Having said that I run single wall pipe in my tent in the winter so by no means do I discount Shawns suggestions either.

Congrats on the new house. One big step in life for sure.
Given time and resources you will make it 'yours'.

Started the day off with a hike into the woods to look for a birch stand we seen on google earth.
About a mile round trip through some nasty thick bush on the way in. So thick it was not looking good other than heli-logging. Found a better way on the hike out. I'll say it was well worth the trip. Probably enough firewood there for my lifetime.

Then started picking away at the honey do list for the cabin.
Finished installing the laminate.
Finished trim on gazebo.
Cleaned and finally braced the chimney.
Cut up old wood for mama to burn in the pit.
Somewhere in there I went and caught four nice walleye.
Ribeye and fresh potatoes and carrots for dinner.
And I know I'm missing a couple other trivial items from the list.

Now that I write it down, I understand why I feel tired.

I'd also add do it in little steps. Half turn or so at a time.
Crank it go for a drive to settle it out, and repeat as necessary.
Like JR said don't max it out.
It will take the flatter stock angles and make them not so nice, but a little bit can be done.

Canning & Food Storage / Re: Vacuum Bagging??
« on: August 19, 2016, 03:09:40 PM »
Makes sense. Thanks.

I've seen on cooking shows where people will marinade steaks in vacuum sealed bags. Suppose to force the marinade into the meat.  How does that wok? You have a steak and lots of liquid.  They must have a heavy duty commercial sealer. I just use zip lock bags or bowl with a lid.

Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
I'm not sure how those ones work.
The sealer I bought had vacuum containers a few sizes.
Rigid plastic type, and they work well.
But to vacuum marinade, not sure how to execute vacuum with liquid present in a soft bag.

If in doubt the easiest way to find your round is to start at 25. After the above mentioned bore sighting. At 25, with the bore sighting being close you should not miss the target.
Then move it as required to get 'close' at 25.
Confirm at 50/100 whatever you want and GTG.

Well started the day at work. Then at lunch played what's that smell. Oh yeah the box of plums.

So split half of them and into the dehydrator they went.

Then my next oh yeah moment when I got home from work. I have to finish the chokecherry jelly. Juiced them a couple days ago then got tied up with apples.

Cooking it up and warming the pressure canner.

Pouring the pressure and heat to the jars.

And eight pints of chokecherry goodness.

Was the maiden run on the canner. Man where has this thing been all my life.
Thanks Nate and anyone else that raved about them, good money spent.

I just tried mine. Wife wanted to freeze shredded zucchini for bread. It wouldn't seal. So I tried a baked potato just to see what happened. Sealed perfectly.  Only thing I can figure is the zucchini has too much juice and it wouldn't let it seal. Well meat has juice. How does that work? I must be doing it wrong.

Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
When you're working with the "wetter" items, you need to keep an eye on progress and manually seal before the liquid hits the seal area.
It's a bit of a crap shoot to figure out how far you can get.
Learned the hard way bagging scallops and lobster.
Caught it when I got home and had to re-bag.

Just went through my head you could maybe partially freeze the zucchini to slow the flow of moisture, and still be soft enough to pack nicely.

That sounds a little higher north than me actually.
During our leak daylight we get dim from around 2:30-3:30 and then light again.
So the 3:00 may be accurate, as it could have just began to get lighter at that point.

One year I went to the range at midnight on the solstice, and shot away for a while.
As much to say I did as for the therapy.

Sounds like a plan, will be a couple months till its done, and depending, I may mellow one for an extra couple.
Did a quick specific gravity check, and it's not as sweet as it needs to be, so I'll be adding some sugar to get up to around the 7-8% range. Current potential for only about 4% and I'd like a tad more.

But for best show times, got to get into December, yeah it will be cold, but it's dark forever...
And you get a better show from the ice where you can get out to see the sky in its entirety.

Got to the end of my cider making limit.
I'm up one pail from where I wanted to be, but oh well.
So that makes three pails for hard cider.

The bubbles are actually fermentation not foam.
Apparently apples are inherently prone for natural yeasts and the process has begun.
I'll still kick them in the butt with some wine yeast to harden it up a bit more effectively.

A buddy of mine just replaced a shed.
It was all untreated, no shingles real ugly piece of work.
I'd guess in the 20 years plus or minus age range.
OSB was the roof.
So if you're going to look after it a bit I'd agree it will last plenty long.

The 2 X 9 is likely overkill.

Build Threads / Re: Car Hauler Trailer Build
« on: August 15, 2016, 11:58:34 AM »
So, I built one a few years ago.
2 X 9 tube, and 2 X 3 1/2 tube.
Used tube as it was free, from Walmart of course.
I went with 3500# axles because I got them dirt cheap.
I am currently waiting to have some spare bucks to upgrade them to 5200 or 6000 pounders.
I've bent two front axles now, and it's done major service for me until upgraded.

It got the heck beat out of it once loaded, with me going too fast, on one a me was bent empty, bad bump, and huge bounce.

So, if you already have the 3500's then bear in mind what some of the others have said about payload. Watch for bad bumps and you'll be good for a while. I've had some serious loads on mine over the years, and they will work. Just beat in mind one day you'll need to replace them. They are too light for the size you're building. Which is the size of mine, 16' flat, 2' beaver tail.
I do recommend having a look at the third picture, I have tie points in the centre space on every crossmember. You can never have enough, and I wish I'd've put a few more.

So I went to go price out my next set of Toyo M55's yesterday.
They tell me that Nitto and Toyo are on in the same.
I'm between 55-60k on the set I have now, and don't want a different compound.

"The NITTO HD GRAPPLER is the exact same tire that you requested ( difference being the name ) Speaking with the REP. For Nitto/Toyo I confirmed this."

They're not done yet, about 8/32 front, and 12/32 rears after the last rotation.
But winter is coming, and that likely isn't enough for grip purposes.

They've stood up better than anything I've ran so far.
Nitto Terra Graplers being second, at about 25-30 k. They were chunked out badly, and letting rock pass inside at that point.

Some acme rod, thrust bearing, some oak bits, and some steel hoops.

Well, today I committed to the preservation of my poor ole truck.

Another black kit, and one colour match.
I 'think' I'm doing doorline down colour matched.
Flares and below doors black.
And once I get into it...probably another kit of black or two...dunno.

I have an acreage down in the real world, that is up for sale, long unnecessary story about it, but it has a boat load of apple trees. So HH6 picked six Rubbermaids of apples while I cleaned up the yard.

Picked up a pressure canner, going to can some of them.
Rest are destined for hard and soft cider.

Don't knock Lee stuff. Yes it's not Dillon, but you have a single stage.
I used Lee for years, wore it out and replaced with a too good to pass deal on an RCBS unit.

Once you get the swing of things, I've been near 100 per hour, hand measuring match grade.
The biggest thing is take your time and take lots of notes to go back on.
I have a dedicated hard cover notebook for all load data I load.
COL, which primer, breed of brass, etc.
It all is something to fall back to when you can't find primer X or powder Y.

Enjoy your new hobby, it leads so often to gunpowder therapy.  8)
