Packable/Concealable AR
« on: October 21, 2021, 08:46:24 PM »
Well, I’ve been contemplating this for a while and decided to go for it.

I read an article on arbuildjunkie
https://www.arbuildjunkie.com/pantheon-arms-and-the-dolos-take-down-system/

This build using the Pantheon Dolos quick detach barrel system and the Law Tactical folding stock adapter.

So I ordered both today and will be building yet another 300 blk pistol with the goal of being able to pack this in a small pack, that i estimate will be 12x6x6 including 1 mag.

It will be interesting to practice deploying and engaging to assess reliability and how long it takes to be at the ready.

So for the greater good and the interest of mankind (and 4 star admirals of the US Public Health Service) I, your resident redneck will embark on this mission and provide updates….

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Ok here is the first installment.  Had another stripped lower and put that together and then installed the folding stock adapter.

Here is the stock adapter

Here are the two Magpul grips side by side.  The one I used has a more straight up and down angle for short pull weapons.

And here you can see that it has a male nut to thread into the lower receiver to retain the folding adapter.  You have to take the latch mechanism out as you install to the receiver.

Here you can see the latch reinstalled

Yes I didnt have a castle nut for the Shockwave pistol brace tube, but I’ve since ordered one.

Here you can see the length of the assembly when folded.  Very compact.

It really snaps in place nicely. I have the tension adjusted so that I can snap my wrist and it will fold and lock into place.  Really happy with this.

Next up, I ordered a 7.5 inch 300 blk upper.  When it arrives i will begin the installation of the Dolos quick attach barrel system

More to come.

Ok boys. Teaser pics. Pretty much all together but need to test fire tomorrow.  The dolos system leaves something to be desired. The handguard is sloppy until twisted on. May not be that big a deal but under duress it may create opportunities for getting shot before you can deploy. I’m sure it has a place in the collection I’m just not sure if I want to depend on it as a primary weapons system. If I can hold them off with 26 rounds of.40 while I get this assembled it may do the trick. First impression but more to come. The folding stock is 100% money though.

Breaking down the upper I bought.  The right tools make all the difference.  Flash hider, gas block and barrel nut all have to come off.

Here is everything disassembled.  The tri lug quick connect is there along with the castle nut

Bare upper

With the tri lug and castle nut installed on the upper

Here is the bolt carrier extension that slides in the back of the bolt carrier to make up the extra length of the folding stock adapter

Here it is installed with the folder open

Pretty compact total package

And broken down

It’s complete. Magpul BUIS

The folding stock is a hit. The detachable barrel is cool but it’s takes a few seconds to get it up and running.  Fold out stock, lock bolt back. Insert barrel assembly and rotate. Slap mag in it, drop bolt.

I’d say it’s a stealth rig. Fight your way to cover with your sidearm and then get in the game.

Reliable and accurate enough to 100 Yds for minute of scumbag with subsonic 300BLK. Not a long range rig with a 7.5 inch barrel.

Sean, that made me think.
We were just playing with the prep idea when we started here in 2014.
But this morning's news covered shooting after shooting with two being a mass killing (2-3 or more).
Then there's the mob thing which we are just beginning to see, and there is no doubt about a shortage of food just a few months away.
The idea if carrying portable weapons is going to come more and more into the mainstream as we go forward.

Yes, and how exactly is Texas growing libtard in some areas?
Wait, we're doing it in the tucky too (Louisville)!

Beto's not a true Texan. He was born in El Paso (my home town) then quickly shipped off by his well-to-do family to various boarding schools and high-fallutin universities before returning to the state, appropriating Latino culture, and running for office. In short, he's an entitled idiot.

Sean is right,  Robert Francis O’Rourke is a fake and an idiot.  His dad actually started calling him Beto when they decided he should be in politics.  He’s a charlatan and con artist with no moral compass.  If a poll came out saying that the path to political power was to spill oil in the ocean and club baby seals, he would do it in a heartbeat.

And the reason Texas has liberals in it is because like all other liberal areas of the country, weak people in the big cities vote for politicians that promise “free” stuff.  And that attracts more weak people.

So for the extra cost and function of the barrel QA, is it really worth it? Just having a short barrel with folding stock would make an AR about what, 15in?

So here in Kali we cannot have telescoping stocks and I would never break the "letter of the law". But folding is fine as long as the rifle won't fire if folded (like this).

It’s just another tool JR.  Not sure I would build another with the QD but it’s nice to have.  If you leave it on, its not a hindrance and you can remove it when you need to compress to a smaller package.

Probably 17 inches I would guess.  7.5 inch barrel plus muzzle device plus lower plus folding adapter thickness.
