Paver patio
« on: February 29, 2016, 05:07:24 PM »
I moved this to Construction as this is non vehicle related.

Trying to get a couple projects done before I get cut in a few days.

First is a paver patio that I began a few months back by setting the perimeter pavers against drians. All this is going over a cement deck.

There were 4 pallets and now I almost have the last one moved. Got WAY to much sand and had to move 2 yards out (under trampoline now).

Pattern is called random using 3 diff size pavers (redish grey) with the pool lined with mostly red pavers.

Here are a few pics of where I am at today;

When drilling drain holes I hit a water line (yard) and had to fix that.

Then I had to clean out some water damaged wood, add flashing then filled the void with cement.

The green hose runs under the corner paver, mortised in to allow for drainage where I shouldn't have drilled.

Hardest corner with face of steps set and onto the field.

About 1/2 done now. The biggest holdup is the sand they gave me is more gravel so lots leveling and now removing more and adding sand and screening more.

Then I have to trim all edges as I started in the wrong place(s).

I believe that is a Versailles pattern.  Not easy to lay, especially when it requires back buttering of thin set on 24x12 tiles....

Good job JR

Well, not much going on with this as I am still laid up with the ankle. Have about 4ft to go when you square it up, and the step which will all be mortared.

The HF cutter is doing great and on just the second blade. Found I had the wrong blade at first which was smooth. I now have the toothed blade made for thick brick.

The neighbor did finish the fence in back, now just a side to go where the trailer is stored.

Thanks, guys.

Pool and edges use a redish paver, all are mortared in. Main is a redish/brown/tan and floats on around 1/2 or less sand over the old cement.

Drainage seems to work OK so far. It has rained a few times and I have never seen any standing water yet, but it is not sanded yet.

Got the last of it in a few days ago. To darn hot for alot of work right now.

1 last strip to mortar in and sand it, done!! Have to lay a base for the last mortar strip. Will cement that in the AM, mortar later.

Big hold up is still the heat and all the kid stuff. Tomorrow is the last day of school so not sure if I will get more help or have to entertain more (later)

I had to add about 4 inches of cement for the last row. Could have shortened up the patio, but the work is about even and more room is better.

Of course it is 104 today, small area or not, thats warm!

Speaking of warm. We HAD to take the pool cover off! Now true it tends to be warmer near the surface, but 109*!!!!!! Cooled to 95* after that and had the kids paint some trim.

Patio is done and sanded. Poly took some of the color out but it is solid. Just need to finish the step and trim. I might even seal it with the kids doing their thing.

Pics to follow!

Holding up just fine after sanding. Have an edge along the pool to trim out is it and the molding the boys (I finished) painted.

Next come the step that has to be all mortored with bullnose matching the colors.

Besides a set of stairs I am building, this is the worst I have to deal with. Been sorta a catch all with all the projects and time to clean it up and put something simple around the pool filter/pump/solar/salt system.

Other than this there is a little fence to restring and some stone trim next to it.

That really looks good. That paver set really does a nice job, just be sure to clean the tops well.

I know what you mean about fixing the pattern. I had a couple spot I thought I could cheat on, but I had to fix em.
