John Deere is leading the charge from the last article i read. At least their statement is the least ambiguous about it... "you don't own the software" basically.

Hmm, I like this.

BTW, did you know ALL cars now have a "black box" that tells all anyway and I believe is wifi enabled.

Its more about the mfgs being able to capture the revenue from the aftermarket parts and performance guys.  We spend billions a year on modifying vehicles and the auto makers can't figure out how to be profitable with the unions sucking up 3000 per car in active and retiree benefits.  Capturing that additional revenue is attractive.

Like a government that is too bloated...all they can see is a need for more tax $$

I was at a Computer Show back in the late 1990's and there was a "futurist" speaking. OnStar had just come out and he was part of the development team. He said that GM planned to make more money off of OnStar and related "service" offerings then they would building and actually selling vehicles.

Now that is happening.  :o

Ya know this is really the big picture stuff here

Money (evil) at the root of a lot of this. It is about capturing revenue more than it is about control over the people by some big brother. But big brother is complicit through bought officials and the overwhelming power of money when leveraged against the weaker mind.

Dwight Eisenhower hinted at this "relationship" between the big business of the day, which was the war machine business, mostly building up General Lemay's intercontinental air force, but the president on leaving the office the day before Kennedy assumed command, said to his beloved American people, "Beware the military-industrial complex."

What he was saying is beware of businesses that become so huge that they become essential and intertwined with the government itself. The tax revenues, the number of people employed, and most importantly, the wealth that is secretly added to the elected and appointed officials overseeing such enterprise.

I believe all of that is our biggest enemy. That relationship will use any tool available to ensure the entity's control over everything. Tools such as Obama, Socialism, class warfare, ignorance, poverty, and the like

I also believe that enterprise has two enemies. I believe their intent is selfish and perhaps evil, so that means God is an enemy to all of that. Secondly, strong men such as you and I will stand our ground for what we feel is right. Always remember that only 3% of Americans in the day, fought for and liberated the United States from the British in the 18th century. We will stand fast, and many, many weaker men will see us and find their balls in the last moments

Sounds like the "TO BIG TO FAIL" we keep hearing about.

Failing means the customer said we don't like what you do, can we do that with Washington???

This isn't a new concept. Consider these questions...

Do you or did you commute further to work than you can easily walk?

Does your lifestyle or that of your wife/kids require drives of a distance again, easier than a simple walk?

Do your kids need a ride to school? Sports, Church, a friends home on a regular basis?

A yes to any of the above puts you at the mercy of the modern "steering" of society. A willful patsy in the "plan" as it were.

even 50 years ago, most of the above was within walking distance of your home...something to consider.

I live rural and I have learned that I drive less miles per year than most of our friends in the "city" which strikes me as odd. We average just a shade over 7k a year... and that usually includes at least two trips of 1200miles a piece.

That sounds about right except for the trip South each winter. Have to get away from the rain. I used to work in it and played in it too but not so much any more. Except for a couple weeks hunting I can do with out the weather in Western Wa in the winter.
