Made it home from Kentucky yesterday. Had a little bad weather close to home but not bad. Brought a little Kentucky wild life with us. Zane got his first Deer while we were there. He went with my wife's uncle. His only child passed away a few years ago. I think he had more fun than Zane because he had someone to pass his knowledge on to. Very good bonding time for both of them.

Trying to put bacon away and the big fancy LEM max vac 500 don't want to suck. So I had to dig out my trusty 10 year old game saver sport to save the day. It only overheated 3 times. I'm not use that smaller one anymore trying to go too fast and it don't like it.

I nearly forgot the end result. I found that if I let it rest in the fridge a few days before freezing it has better flavor.

20 lbs of pork bellies going in the smoker today. I've been playing with some new flavors. The last batch I had a few too many Bud Lights and decided to dump a bunch of lemon pepper on a smaller piece as a joke. Lemon pepper typically being for fish and chicken I thought it would be awful. Just the opposite. It is actually really good. I have 10 lbs. of lemon pepper flavor and 10 lbs. of garlic onion flavor. I forgot to get garlic, so I used granulated onion and garlic for that. It smells awesome.

Update on the Dodge. I finally got a hold of the original shop that worked on it. They plugged in and did some stuff I don't understand and its good now. He did ask if I was pulling a heavy load when everything went haywire because that is probably what caused it. Well duh. it's a dually with a farm license. He gave no further explanation. The guy was a jackhole, but he didn't charge anything.
So, we have a juiced up 6.7 that might go goofy next time I pull a heavy load. Some of you gave suggestions on different shops. Once we get through the holidays, I will be contacting some of them and see what some other options are.

How far away from Gretna are you? Jess and Sean at Husker Diesel are good customers of mine that I trust. big Dodge guys.

Husker Diesel did my Duramax that time. Did good work. Thier pulling truck is a chevy I guess I thought they were pretty much GM guys. We took the Dodge to Bangharts in Wahoo.

I made a couple calls to a shops about the dodge. Everyone thinks for some reason the tune got messed up but nobody will touch it because a few shops around here got in trouble for deleting vehicles. I don't know a lot about that kind of stuff. They said something about getting it back to factory then reload the tune. But, I Don't have the tuner. The original shop just downloaded a tune to the truck.

Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk

Jon, call the folks in Ontario. They will do delete tunes and fix them and all the rest. They understand, of course, you are never operating the vehicle on roads and highways. "Motor Ops"

OK thanks. I found a couple other local places to try first.

Jon, I think you can use the stock airbox and just get the tube for it. Junks all the baffles and unless you pumping major HP the stock filter is not that bad. Kinda wish I had gone that way vs the $300 system on mine.

Even a HD starter only runs so many times (knock on wood). Running around, stopping, leaving the headlights on and doing things I would want mine to just run. Kinda like the DOD on many cars, does it help that much or just a gimmick?

I think the simple fix is just go to you pull it and make it factory again.

Took the scouts on a campout this weekend. It only got down to 20 degrees but the wind kicked our butts. It was very difficult to cook breakfast with everything blowing away. We stayed Friday night did a service project for the state park Saturday afternoon and called it a day.  We cut cedar trees off the hillside. They are considered invasive here.

A good friend of mine had a close call today. He was following a garbage truck and a car crossed the center line and hit the garbage truck head on. Causing a chain reaction sending him down a 40 ft embankment. He was treated and released from the hospital. I have no word on the others involved.

This is a reminder that anything can happen at any time.

After voting I have been just sitting around the house watching the poor guys work concrete in the rain. The rain was supposed to hold off a little longer They poured my driveway and part of the approach to the building anyway. I wouldn't have done it but whatever.

Finished harvest. I have all the numbers but haven't added them up yet. Just by looking at the bins soy bean production is down by 50% from last year and corn is less than that.
We're going to be looking for some trucking jobs this winter for sure. We can't make up the difference but it will help.
The new building is coming along really well. As our projects usually go it turned into a bigger deal than we thought. The way the approach measures out we are going to end up paving the whole driveway. It will be really nice when it's done but that's a lot of concrete we didn't plan on.

You have to do what you think is right JR. I don't much care for the diversity merit badge either.

We don't have a girl's troop but a nearby town does. My niece joined. The Girl Scouts are broken but like the Boy Scouts its led by volunteers. Your troop is only as good as its leader. My Niece quit that and joined "BSA" after the Girl Scout leader took them on a hike. Around the inside of her house. No joke. They went on a hike inside the house.

Now I don't like girls in BSA. But this is where I am conflicted inside. If A child wants to learn something I am not going to turn them away. I don't care if it's a boy or a girl or confused. Just how big of a jerk would you be to tell this child you can't teach them how to fish or start a fire. You are a girl you have to go learn that over there. Nope I'm not going to exclude anyone.

As a leader I try to teach them my values. Even in this small town there are kids in my troop that lived a very sheltered life. Some from broken homes, some are an only child that doesn't like to share.  I pound in their heads that when we are together, we are a family. This is your scouting family, and these are all your brothers like it or not and we are all going to get along. I teach them and guide them through their teenage years like I would my own kids. Being a scoutmaster is a hard job, but I feel like I have a good support system with the committee I put together.

I am fortunate most of the families in the troop are all pretty conservative and agree with how I am running things. One family is pretty liberal and that causes some problems. I had to make a rule of no politics discussion unless the material we are working on requires it.

I can’t believe static builds up like that, I know they have ground straps I have seen on military vehicles, wonder if they have an option for farm equipment that might help.

Crazy!!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I drag a chain under the combine. The static electricity is really bad. I was vacuuming dust out of the guts of the combine doing some maintenace and I was getting shocked through my shoes standing on the platform. It was pretty hot too. Close to stepping on an electric fence. When I'm in the combine I wear these really cheap Walmart loafers because I like to take my shoes off in the cab to be comfy. I can't imagine there is much real rubber in the soles.

Believe it or not static electricity will cause fires. As the equipment moves through the field in extreme dry conditions like we have now it can be like dragging your feet on carpet. One of the towns near us was evacuated for wild fires earlier today. They are all back home now. This 4 Wheeler is parked in the north side of the shed with the south wind. That's what we are in now.

Did the CAI today, Volant. Hardest part was the GM connector on the engine vent.

Stock intakes are like a labyrinth, throttle body was filthy, and I cleaned the MAF sensor too. Hopefully get the the exhaust tomorrow. But its my youngest's 15th birthday.

Where did you get this? Whoever had my suburban last just threw a cold air filter on and cut the air box to make it fit.

The truck is a mid 2000s freightliner with a Pre-emissions Mercedes engine. Its leaking fuel near one of the injectors. It has to be an O ring or something. Didn't want to tear into it in the field because who knows if parts are available. So, the guys got it started back up and beat feet for home. We were about 12 miles from the farm. Probably not the smartest thing to do but nobody could tow it and all our trucks were tied up.

Simplier than that for me. A part of the disc has broken off and is lodged in the spinal canal. They will remove that, then in the surgeon's words, smooth everything up and it's fixed.
Nothing like have a dremel with 320 grit wheel on your spine
I'm an aviator...1500 grit for me
Want me to be smooth on the controls, right?
Have them install a grease zerk so you can stay lubed up.

That sucks Tex. I had a vehicle stolen years ago. Caught them and they made it right, but it still ticks me off to this day. I had a 67 chevy long box. They only rust was on the rockers. 327 with a 4 speed. I found it cut to pieces with engine gone. I later found the engine in a mechanic shop. They guy turned white as a ghost when I informed him it was mine. Problem was when I put it in, I didn't write down any identification numbers. No proof.

Jon, if you are taking any more old buildings down, might check around on what old barn wood is worth. Some people pay crazy prices for it. Some people use paint or paper on interior walls, others cover with old wood.
