Made it to Caldwell Idaho. Seems like a great bunch of people. These guys have sone pretty sweet rrucks.

The water pump is leaking on my truck. So better get that fixed. If I was at home, with my tools, in my shop id fix it myself. This place is pretty high class. I don't think they will allow any wrench turning here.

Sorry to hear Jon.

I’ve been trying to do some decluttering and spring cleaning now that the casita is just about done and I put my autographed Kyle Busch jacket and helmet on flea bay and got $750 for it.  Looks to be a dealer out of Vegas and I’m sure he’ll make another $250 but what the hey, bird in hand.  I paid $1300 for it at a charity auction 10 years ago and it came with a Richard Petty racing experience at the track so I think I made out ok.

TRN, we got Ricky Jr's and KB walked away from us. I don't like KB, reminds me of Tony Stewart when he would complain about others and do the same or worse on the track.

Jon, feel for you. Hate doing repairs on the road, but hate paying someone to do it more. Good Luck!

Just a couple of the rigs out here. The one with the pick up camper started as a box truck that he cut down. The other one the guy built from scratch. Started out with a bare truck and built it all. He also built the rack on the trailer. Under the side by side he hauls a pickup with topper on it and a canoe.
It's almost fascinating to listen to them explain how they built it. 90% the rigs here are all self contained. They can go just about anywhere they want for as long as they want.

Curious how that ramp system works, Jon.
If you zoom in there is an A frame under the front wheels of the side by side. That unbolts and rolls to the rear of the trailer. Then a winch on the front of the trailer pivonts it to the bed and drive off. Like a teeter totter.

Interesting. I have to say I had to Google Lockout/Tag out. I had never heard of that before. It makes total sense. Stay safe!

Sitting in San Diego airport, time to go home. Conference was good, had a concert last night with Weezer and Foo Fighters. I stayed for Weezer and left shortly after they were done.  They put on a good show, played some songs from the 80s too which was fun.

Had some fun shooting in the desert. Shoulder is a little sore from the .270. My Star  9mm jammed on Walmart ammo. So, I tried some ammo from a law enforcement officer that was there. Then it performed flawlessly. I should have know better than buy ammo at Wally World anyway.

Wife and I went for a little run with some strength training thrown in, and about a million stairs... got this at the end though!!

Spartan Stadion Race, LOADS of fun with more stairs than you’ll walk the rest of the year !!!! I recommend it to everyone!

For sure! It was a blast, the stadion is only 3.1 miles with 23 (I think) obstacles. The stairs don’t count as an obstacle

On my trip back to Moab

Had my buddy pull down my 26’ trailer with to sxs.  Roughly 8k.  He pulled down I would pull back to share fuel costs
On the way home I couldn’t get over Spanish fork canyon.  My truck was heating up.  So he pulled it to the bottom and I pulled from Spanish fork to Ogden.   My trans temp stayed about 210 and motor 225.  Fan clutch didn’t engage until I got off my freeway exit blocks away from my home.

To me that is a reliability issue and causes major doubt and concern.     It needs injectors and has for awhile.  It needs the heads redone before a head gasket issue.   The gearing is off for tires and towing.  Its getting old to me with 150k.   I have honestly abused this truck.  I have not been a nice owner.  Sure I do the maintenance on it.  I just haven’t simply been nice.

A motor rebuild is expensive and I don’t have the know how to do it myself.    That being said...... I can have it paid off this year and park it...... I can trade it in and put a large money down on a new truck ( yes I am looking at the 6.7 power stroke f-350) and be more comfortable, less abuse, less miles, more creature comforts, larger cab, larger bed, larger tow capacity and all around more reliable than the current duramax.

Do you guys ever get the simple doubt in the back of your head and the only way to fix is replace it?   I don’t want to sit and rebuild it over and over.

This all concluded.  I can pay it off and park it.   I don’t have any major plans or trips on my radar where I need to tow it up any canyons.  It serves fine around town.

“The wife” says. Let’s pay it off.  Keep it in the garage and buy a new truck and toss funds at it as we have them.

What do you guys think?   Honestly I am emotional about it right now. The truck has failed me and it needs to die.  Cut off the broken leg and carry on.

So yesterday I flew to Indiana at 3am. Visited with my Dad in nursing home and then finished packing moms POD rental up along with her Subaru Outback. As of 8pm eastern last night then left for home. As of 6 pm this evening I arrived, all in all drive went ok. Stopped couple of times during night to take an hour or so nap. Glad those drives back and forth are complete. Mom is here and waiting on her possessions to show up in ten days or so.

I drove a 2014 3500 today,   It was nothing new that I desired, the interior was basic same same.  Sure it was stock, quiet, less miles, but all in all.  The truck was just like driving mine.   Not impressed

Have your drive a 2015 powerstroke? They pull like a train!!!   It’s smooth power, massive cab size, the ride is smooth!   I am mesmerized by it!

The way I see it, do you need it bad enough to have a second mortgage? Because that’s basically the price of new trucks, which you know.

The way I see it, do you need it bad enough to have a second mortgage? Because that’s basically the price of new trucks, which you know.
I am not looking 2019 or newer.   Been shopping the 2012/15 ford or pending a dealership buddy a 2014 lease return on a loaded 3500hd with a long bed.

It is your money so you need to get what you want/need. I know several around here who went with dodge and are very happy and saved $$$.

Sean, funny how those naps help so much now,,,,,,,,,

JR, I used to put down the miles. Fight thru it and keep chugging coffee. Just ain’t the same, hour nap and I was good for another 5 hours driving or so. For the record the outback seats are not very comfortable. Had me missing my f150 in long drives..
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

I moded the Dmax seats so they fully recline now. I can do 6 if I sleep before. What gets me now is I get a meal on the road and it puts me out, have to grab a nap.

I can’t sleep in a truck no matter how far the seat reclines.  I have had a better nap behind the wheel at 55 than ever pulling over.

I use a rest area, or out of the way wide spot, or a nice motel. Climb in the back under the canopy and take a good nap. Been on way to many callouts where a person took a nap while driving and ended up out in the brush and trees, or across centerline and met a rig coming the other direction.
