Ken & Don-

I agree with you both: had a girl in class, who wants to become a boy (WTH) and proceeded to get cranked about being a vegetarian and meat is murder (tasty, tasty murder) and how can you be so cruel to animals, how horrible pigs lives are.......told her (yeah she gets cranky when I say "ladies") that hogs will eat you alive if they get the chance.

They run on emotion; little grasp of logic or cause and effect relationships.  Growing sense of entitlement and little sense of self restraint or personal responsibility.

Because of their "age" I remind myself that they're not in possession of fully functional brains.............so I usually ignore them right after I challenge their "feelings" by questioning their logic........messes up their world for quite awhile, but the ones worth your breath, actually learn from it......a few years down the road.

I'm with both of you, ignore and cringe at the same time!

What about putting some cheese cloth in a funnel and transfer it into another container after adding some fuel and sloshing around awhile?  Catch the big chunks and get to inspect it visually as it empties.  Then the filter can catch the rest and you should be GTG

Wild Game / Re: Favorite Shotgun Gauge for Upland Hunting
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:49:14 PM »
Mine is 20g if I could only pick one gauge.  I've got a sweet Franchi 48 that weighs sub 6lbs. and I shoot it with cylinder choke - only takes 2 3/4 inch shells and has beautiful wood.  With the wide variety of quality loads, I can kill any upland game , including late season pheasant in SD making some ridiculous shots using Federal's "Wing-shock" which is lethal!

I really enjoy my 28g on quail, but finding shells for it, in Missouri late in December wasn't so easy, suppose if I'd gone to Bass Pro maybe.

Why NOT 12g?  I tore up too much meat with it, even using cylinder choke, which I hate.
I will go to it for late season in SD as last week December pheasant don't give you too many close shots, and with multiple birds in the air, no plug makes for some wild shooting.

Honestly, I like them all and have owned them all; .410 is more of an exhibition gauge and not a "gotta put meat in the pot" option.

Wild Game / Favorite Shotgun Gauge for Upland Hunting
« on: May 05, 2015, 05:59:48 PM »
What's your favorite gauge shotgun for carrying and shooting effectively for a long weekend of upland hunting?  Not sitting on your duff having game driven or called to you, but following dogs, spot and stalk or group driving after upland birds, rabbits or squirrels?  You can add what action/style you prefer as well, in your reply and explain your rational as well.  ::)

« on: May 05, 2015, 05:44:52 PM »
I've had Chevy/GMC & Dodge stuff and liked most all of them, some had "flaws" but decent for the most part.

Owned two Fords (slow learner) and tolerated them- got from point a to b, but hated the interiors, mechanicals etc.  The only Ford I "might" enjoy the interior of is a King Ranch P/U with the saddle leather seats, but their Diesel motors are best suited as anchors IMO.

I would have to say, I've become smitten with the Square Dodges due to the builds going on here- had a friend who had a pristine, late 80's 360 - 2 door 4x4 Dodge that was similar to the full size Chevy Blazer, can't remember what the model name was, but it was a nice truck to ride in going deer hunting.

Have to say, I like my Duramax best, as long as the world stays EMP free!  After that, I'll have to steal a horse.....

i would have to give a nod to anderson windows as well.  but that may be just because they are made 14 miles from where i grew up and a lot of the families were employed by them as well.  as a matter of fact you can see the anderson windows plant in the movie grumpier old men when they are at the ploka fest in down town stillwater, MN. (thats where i was born)

sorry for the derail, not offten i get to talk about MN or WI.

So sad all you old farts  ;) are so hung up on the .45! No love for the 9mm... I guess I could sit here all day and debate with you citing ballistic studies and real world experience but at the end of it we will still just be some no name dudes stretching our egos! Well here are a few people who can shed some light for us! Might wanna re-cast your votes!
9mm!!
Recoil mitigation
Capacity
Cost to train
Millions of dollars spent to make the 9mm perform the way we want it to!
Penetration! Yes, 9mm blasts glass for days. .45 HP's leave most of their meat on the glass! Try it for yourselves...
.45 HP's fill with clothing particles, fail to expand properly...
'Merica!

http://www.tactical-life.com/gear/45-acp-vs-9mm-ammo/#bsum-9mm-win

So what you're saying is, I should alternate HP/Ball in my .45 and double tap, bend over to pull up my socks and fart between engagements?  OK, seems excessive, but I'll give it a try.........all that bending over is gonna kill me, so I'll just switch over to Mandels and skip that part?  ???

Pella Windows - out of Pella Iowa - owner is (was) a good guy, hunter etc. was dying of some form of cancer when I met him.  Great, American made products, but not on the cheap end by any means.  Have some cool features, in addition to high efficiency, like blinds (louvres) between the glass so they never get dusty or blow in the wind  8)

Or about the Chinook pilot who had one of them hanging on a winch cable about 50 beet below the aircraft, who flew over to a nearby waste treatment plant and tea bagged them first in brown, then in rinse!

Oooohh, no -puking and dry heave sounds being made just reading that!  That's gotta to be your worst prank, I'm hoping!

No .50 Barrett either!?

Don't want to "carry" one, but talk about fun to shoot- not much for a hunting round, unless there's a REFER Truck, full of sides of beef and you want the truck to just sort of STOP rolling down the road all of a sudden so you can acquire some!

XDs to be exact, in .45

Have XDM .45 too, as my SHTF side arm and will be adding a Glock at some point, just because I like shooting them.

Went with Springfield Arms as a "bang for the buck" at the time, simplicity of takedown, reliability and how well I shot them.  Glock 36 was stove piping on me - was told it was "limp wristing", but shot it side by side with the XDs and it never once stove piped; how could it limp wrist one and not the other?  Read on-line several places about that issue with the G36 so went with the XDs. :)

My reply based upon NO first hand knowledge other than supposition - AR10 as I'm more of a fan of "one and done" and the ability to reach out further than what I might face coming at me.  Same rational as to why my CCW is  .45 ACP - connect with center mass and the target isn't going to still be standing.

So interesting tie in with previous topics regarding Gold and it's low price, WMF and America in cahoots to manipulate Golds price to shore up the Dollar.  On the above mentioned show on History Channel last night, there's "Mancow" (the brother of the car salesman giving away guns that the video clip of him treating the reporter to a good mind bending experience) basically expressing his observations and views on the ARTIFICIALLY LOW PRICE OF GOLD and how China, Russia, England etc. are snatching it up, especially after a HUGE sell-off BY the good ole' USA?  There was mention of previous  sell-off right after we went off the Gold standard under Nixon.......probably explains the movement of armored warfare from Ft. Knox......nothing left to guard maybe? :o

Okay, let's scratch our souls and our grey matter at the same time:

You're supreme authority of the US for a day, and whatever law you come up with gets passed and becomes reality, but you can only pick one, and it needs to be faith based- what do you do?

Mine-

In order to collect Welfare, you and every dependent you claim, must attend church together every week.  (Church, Synagogue, Mosque [outta wedlock mothers last there?] etc.).   Don't want to, don't collect- kids don't want to, no credit for them.

Glad you're okay- my father refers to that as an "underwear puckering moment" which I can say I've experienced plenty.  One had the race car trailer come off the hitch and had to use the truck bumper to stop it at speed.  Needless to say, since then, I'm the only one who attaches a trailer that I'm going to tow.
