Title: DOT Oil Change
Post by: cudakidd53 on July 15, 2015, 04:55:31 PM
Thought I'd post up something "constructive" from a DOT!

Changed Oil and filters in the Dmax yesterday

Some Dino Oil and a little juice for the Trans-

Pulled the plug then jacked up the left side to get more of the old oil outta the depression ahead of the drain- jack was lonely and needing some exercise!

It's times like this that make you think that Developers and Architects drive Prius and other hybrids.........3 car garage that won't fit a truck!

So, to add something of actual worth, I'm sharing how I keep the oil that spills forth from the filter when you break it loose......cardboard box top, folded and stuffed against the back of the filter mount angling towards the catch bucket!

So while waiting for the oil to stop dripping, I climbed in the cab, enjoyed the A/C, reset the Oil Life meter and refreshed myself with the proper Trans Fluid level checking procedure, as far more than the amount in the external filter drained out when I changed it, while I was crawling under things.

Well, you know how the lock button is right where you rest your elbow?  Yep, running to check for leaks etc., shut door to that stomach dropping sound of the doors locking!  Thank goodness for "BlondeStar" and the unlock App on my phone!  For some reason, spare set wouldn't unlock door while running using the key fob!

No leaks, levels fine, took waste oil to store I purchased the filters from, and managed to keep from getting any oil all over myself draining it into the waste tank! :)

I like the cardboard.
Not an issue any longer to me as I'm running the Amsoil bypass, but I'll use it elsewhere.

See, when you live out in cold country, which is anywhere that aint Arizona or El pEsos, the a/c compressor doesn't even have to turn a complete revolution to make the oblivious driver feel completely comfortable behind the wheel. That same driver may also start daydreaming of sittin on a nice beach on St martin, drinkin a margarita, all the while his congealed oil is just a slobbering slowly into the waste bucket like cold molasses.

Yeah, I could see how Mikey thought that his A/C was on, he forgot to wear his insulated Journeyman's jumpsuit for this endeavor!
