Here's more pics
There was road construction everywhere and how they do the roads up there.

They put down the base that looks like what Don has been digging up then 4" of foam then the road mix on top!
Then this guy had the best ride to work!

Some of the other rigs on the road

Getting close to Prudhoe Bay we saw the Musk Ox just outside of town

Made it to the ocean you have to use a tour company to get the last 8 miles thur oil company property.
Then 2 guys went swimming and wife said she wished she had brought her suit so one of them we were talking to said he had a extra pair of shorts and a shirt she could use and a large towel then they would head towards the bus and turn their backs while I held the towel like a good husband so she could change!

Going in!

All the way in!!
Are you cold!,

ok back to pics
Here's a little boy for you!

He was in Denali on the bus tour we took.
These are on the Denali Hwy about 80 miles of dirt road.

Then we're driving along and Karen yells stop so she can take pictures of some swans in a small lake, and I started looking around and everywhere you look are blueberries!! So I got to work while she did pictures.

That bowl was full in about 20 minutes!!
Happy Camper we had pancakes for a week!!

Here's a heavy lifter for Don. This was in Gulkana Ak at a small airport

Then we went to Seward to do the glacier and whale cruise.

Sea lions everywhere!

The views were amazing!

Nice pics and journey.

Man that was a nice caribou.
Hope to see one like that this winter when I'm out hunting.
I generally settle on 'ah heck this one will do', but one of these years I need to get a good one.

We had decent berries this year, found lots where I'd never seen them before.
Farther north my buddy and his wife were swimming in them like never before.

I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Heading back into Seward

Then we ran into the Ramblin' Rose from Deadlest Catch!

Then we went to Exit Glacier Nature Center you can hike right up to the glacier here.

Nice trails and visitors center here.
Then stopped in a little town called Moose Pass they have water wheel that has been maintained by the same family for 3 generations! It's right by the road and has a working grinding stone hooked up!! Anyone can stop to use it! Only thing I had was my jackknife,it worked great.

Next while heading towards Homer went thur Nikiski and in front of the fire station was this old fire truck so I had to stop. 1944 Chevy all restored and looks like running because they took the battery out so nobody could steal it!

Heck Don. With all that room on the farm I am surprised you don't have a water/fire truck. Sure you have water on the fuel trailer but lots of water with a pump may not be a bad idea, ask Ken?

Well, if I get the whole farm (450 acres) put back together as it was in the beginning, maybe I'll have room for such things

I'd make room for that fire engine!

Dig that two piece windshield!

Bet it's weird looking through, though.

Like looking through a HUD in an aircraft. It distorts things. You see a truck going down the road for example while in a Snake. That's what reality is, but from the gunners seat you see a german troop train heading to reinforce the landing at Normandy... That little screen just wants to make you want to dive on and shoot things...

Some sort of military prismatic effect...I'm sure science has a name for it...

Well I'll post more pics
Here's our campsite on the Homer Spit!

Here's the Spit  you can see the airport and seaplane lake also

Here's the tide coming in it was pretty cool to watch. It would come up about 6" with each wave!

And while we were standing there this sea otter comes out of the water to play on the beach!

Yeah they have their own private road going into the property.
For all you fishermen we stopped at Anchor Point, beautiful scenery and where the locals go fishing. This is how they launch a boat Alaska style!! Check it out because of the tides, you drop your boat in the parking lot and they take it from there!

This is the first time I have ever seen a log skidder used to launch and retrieve boats! Didn't see a price for the service but they're open 6 am 7 pm every day.

It would have to have fluid filled tires to keep from betting buoyant, but very clever!

Dunno if fluid filled tires would be needed....theyre heavy suckers. The Deere models (most of them Timberjack versions after Deere bought them) range from 36,000 lbs to 49,000 lbs. But you may be right? Just seems like air or fluid wouldn't have a huge impact?

Dunno if fluid filled tires would be needed....theyre heavy suckers. The Deere models (most of them Timberjack versions after Deere bought them) range from 36,000 lbs to 49,000 lbs. But you may be right? Just seems like air or fluid wouldn't have a huge impact?
Think about how little air it takes to float sunken things. Soviet main battle tanks get slightly buoyant driving on the bottom of rivers to the point where the current can sometimes move them. THose units, T-55/62/72 are in the 40 ton range.

Wait a second, there has to be a story here you ain't telling. I saw that diversionary tactic of talking about soviet tanks. However, you were a tank commander so what gives?

Not diversionary

I just remembered how poorly they crawled on river bottoms and they were all steel. So I was comparing that to the Deere thing with its big tires getting light in the surf.
