Charles,

What Nate said ^^^ I believe it was the tundra. Either way we’re good, and we’ll have the house on the market on Thursday.

I think Charles was trying to make a funny, because the only thing more ridiculous than a Tundra towing a space shuttle is a Taco towing the shuttle ;-P

Prayer is greatly appreciated, things are closer than we ever planned them to be. Tomorrow has countless moving pieces, and the photography of the house in the mix, so it can go live on the market on Thursday.

Ah, man...Bummer

But we all prayed for you

Perhaps the Tacoma is the best option as in maybe the big truck could have given you issues.

This is what I believe, it was probably a God send that the big truck couldn’t be taken. Even if it made more sense, it may not have been ready for 6k miles and could have had big issues while on the road. I’ll deal with the truck when we return.

The tacoMa made the trip to Arkansas ok. Was still a long trip.

Ok, I need to update this. Lets start by saying shake down run to Albuquerque went well. 15.5 hours with stopping for gas only, and the 1 hour to load the truck that had our short bed. Injectors and or Injection pump are weak, but thats ok it can be solved. We averaged just under 10mpg over the whole trip pulling a flat bed trailer empty the first half then with the 76 W100 the second half.

In September just before our eastern cross country trip I was trying to solve the stalling issue at stop lights and stop signs. After much deliberation with several folks, one of which is a Goerend transmission specialist and another is a cummins guru out of british columbia we solved it....i think.

First, the goerend billet flex plate that I purchased which is sold for the 47rh which has a lock up torque converter WILL NOT work on the 46rh. Sure the bolt pattern is the same, and it will bolt up to the torque converter but it leaves an unwanted gap between plate and torque converter hub. I emphasize it will not work because there isn't much information on this topic on the interwebs.

Second, our impeller hub on the torque converter was spinning at a slight angle, which caused it to make contact with the sleeve inside the pump. So thankfully Hughes, the folks I had rebuild our torque converter put on a new hub at no cost. Then they pointed me in the direction of where to find a new transmission pump and pump housing. Which I did and then installed and uninstalled several times, due to unforeseen breakages. After the fourth or fifth time of trying to get everything lined up and installed properly we finally had success.

After replacing the transmission pump we re-assembled all of the drive train without much fuss. Upon completion of this task we put the truck back into service, only to find that it was still stalling out at stop lights or any stop for that matter when in drive or reverse. It was at this point the canadian suggested a few items, one install the HVLP pump I had in a box, two set the rpms to 775 while truck is in drive with foot on brake and AC is on. I did these two items and the truck now will idle in drive at a stop light.

Then with some driving to and fro, we found the truck would never break 1100 degrees at WOT, no matter how long I kept it wide open, even when pulling hills. It was this that pointed us to the fact we need new injectors and or injection pump. With this information…. We did nothing. Just drove it. Then I turned up the fuel screw one full turn which helped, but still not proper and barely breaking 1100degrees.

Then this past monday (veterans day) we made the trip to Albuquerque to pick up the fourth parts truck, which is what provided the bed. The bed has been pulled, and installed, and then uninstalled for it to be serviced and brought into better condition.

Overall, the truck runs, does what is asked of it and without to much complaining. I’ve blown a couple boots on the IC but thats about it. Transmission runs no hotter than 145 even while pulling. It probably would get hot if pulling a big hill with a load. The AC has not been fully discombobulated but I know a guy who knows how to solve it, just a matter of getting the truck into his shop.

Sorry for the novel, I’ll post up some corresponding pics soon, they are all on the phone not the pc. To date, I believe we have put on approximately 1500 miles.

Here is the impeller hub that was making contact with the bushing inside the pump. That has conflicting reasons for happening, but I think by me bolting it to the Goerend billet plate it may have happened.

Certain aftermarket fasteners that were engineered for improving stock components have a lot of trouble with aftermarket components, I have found. just ask Phil of SpaceX fame how well his Yukon hubs and STAGE8 spindle nut kit got along  Glad you were able to trouble shoot this thing relatively quickly and not to the tune of $$$$$.

Sounds like you are on the right tract though, bigger pic of the truck!

You built this thing for yourself...for your family

You love these old classics

Why sell it?

Why now? Won't fit the family Hawaii plan?

You are correct, we do love them. But our son cannot stand it, and hates getting into it each time we go to town. And shipping it to Hawaii is of course more than expected by twice and change.

Yea sure, it would be helpful if this thing sold, but in the mean time I am going to continue forward progress. On Friday I went and saw a friend to have him install the injectors since all of my tools are in my tool box which is inside another box inside a shipping container awaiting delivery to our new location.

They look nasty but I don’t really know how bad they are since I haven’t yet sent them
Off for rebuild/testing.

I’m glad I had him install the injectors because he went above and beyond to make sure things were clean and proper. Where as had I done it, it would have been and out and in job with minimal cleaning.

The new injectors are an improvement but we’re also pretty certain the injection pump needs to be replaced.

None the less my wife and I have been continuing forward progress of completing things. If we end up shipping it, which is what it looks like is going to happen, we want it with to ship with everything in it, functioning or not. So we plug along. We officially move on the 18th so time is VERY limited.

Made it some more primer grey.

Got the horn button working, windshield washer pump wired up, more sound deadening in the doors, e-brake started but had to get the shorter cable coming.

Looking to get the windows tinted before we go, stopping by a reputable shop tomorrow.

Radiator has a leak so we ordered a mishimoto it’ll be here and in tomorrow.

Cruise control and radio are last projects. We are putting different 250 leaf springs on the back on Sunday. In hopes to lessen the rake and soften the ride a smidge. I think the springs on it now are actually 1 ton springs.

Not sure what else we need to accomplish, but it’s basically a fully serviceable truck now. Change the oil and rotate the tires and on a boat it goes.

And less drippy!

I only went with a mishimoto because I could get it the fastest, and is was not that much more expensive than a spectrum from rock auto, and cheaper than what I could get through Napa.

So this picture will mean nothing to most, but this is our current “garage”

Went back to AZ to sort some things and grabbed the truck while there. Did some small work on it, left AZ with a super leaky injection pump, arrived in LA with a non leaking injection pump. Dropped it off with the boat company and they brought it down. We went down town first thing this morning to pick it up! Brought it home then went to the beach.

Will be ordering an injection pump soon. And selling the tacoMa in a timely fashion as well! Two vehicles down here is simply unnecessary, wife and I can do all tasks aside from going to the ocean with boards, on a bike.
