At this point why not just use metal? Won’t the wood compress over time and you’ll be right back in gap town?I know that’s how they ‘used’ to do it, but things have come a long way in 100 years.
I would glue on another 1/2" of oak and call it a day.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb. I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

That is some pretty heavy messaging on the frame there. I think just laminating a piece of wood would be a great idea.Motor looks dang nice if I must say!
