I did notice that in the photos of the “caravan”. No one looked hungry or tired or exceptionally put out. Couldn’t we just tweak the GPS signals they are receiving and just have them walk in circles?  After all, they must already be in a better situation than they were in before based on the images being put out there.

That didn't make any sense.  The sidewalk looks even, or slightly above grade. The porch is down over a foot in that last pic ,....unless the steps go up to an entrance... but they look like they come down into the porch.
That’s his back porch in that picture with the steps coming down. My guess is it’s even with the basement.

Had the scouts, two are my sons, at the house for a camp out. They had bacon wrapped hot dogs for dinner over the fire. I decided to swipe a venison loin steak from the freezer and cook it over the fire, on a stick. Turned out just about perfect.

You know those differential sales guys.....

Just for that, I'll be sponsoring Dave's rebuild when he finds the bad bearings.

I just read free u-joints! Sweet
I think you misread, he said he would sponsor the rebuild, he didn’t put any limitations on it. This is gonna be a sweet ride.  So would a ball peen hammer or a five pound sledge be the best way to “discreetly” cause bad bearings?

Also could be pinion bearings  Get the rear axle up on jackstands and have the wife accelerate then let off the gas and listen near the pinion support. Deceleration noise is typically loss of preload and bearings buzzing while the pinion gear runs in an "off" spot on the ring gear coast side.
Should it be in 4 wheel drive when she punches it?  That would help with Nate’s concerns above.

3) u-joint or u-joints

5) I have a disc conversion kit for that axle, regardless a $40 Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve might help
I’ll check the u joints on the driveshaft. I need to check my angles too, something i keep telling myself to do.

How much is the disc conversion kit?  I’ve considered doing that before just to shave 100 pounds off the rear axle.

Oil change.....so you’re saying I should do a duramax conversion with Allison transmission and put portal axles in?  I’ll have to consider it. At least I know where a diesel shop is, there’s a big green landmark already there.

So I had to drive the blazer for a week or so while the Honda Odyssey was down waiting for radiator and fan replacement. It highlighted some issues that need to be resolved. Just for some background, it’s got a 5 liter v8 with a 700R4 transmission and NP208 transfer case, and sits on 3/4 ton axles front and rear. Here are the issues I noticed over the couple days I drove into the office 60 miles each way.
1)  engine was boiling the coolant out and onto the overflow. Think I may have a stuck thermostat.
2). Transmission is leaking some and not shifting very cleanly/consistently. This tranny was rebuilt maybe five years ago, I’m doubting the quality of the rebuild.
3). Vibration/groaning on letting off the gas pedal at higher speeds. Seems like it might be coming from the driveshaft area, but not sure yet.
4). Steering is loose/has a lot of play in it.
5). Brakes tend to be a little touchy, I’m guessing it has to do with the large drums in the rear on the   14 bolt FF axle.

My goal is to get the truck into a condition where daily driving is possible and even comfortable. Optimally, it would be solid enough for my wife to be comfortable driving it. We’ll see how it goes.

I don’t have any set plans at this point and I’m open to ideas and suggestions.  I’ll try to keep this updated as work gets done.

That’s a lot of water.

When are you expecting to fire up the boiler?  I built fires in the fireplaces last night, but you have to keep those fed. The idea of the boiler is very tempting, I had looked at them before but now that we are in the new house even more tempting with electric heat.

I bought one of those ratcheting cutters when I bought a bunch of pvc for the kids to play with and creat things. I cut a bunch of pieces for them to have of different length. My hands were killing me afterwards, but I think I did about 70 cuts to get all the pieces I wanted done.  Clean cuts and no mess.

Hi saw this while driving down interstate 75 today. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it is the new joint light tactical vehicle.  Looks like it might have a pretty soft suspension judging by how much they have a current down, but I could be wrong.

I stopped on my way in to work today and read an off-road magazine to SquareD. It looked really lonely in the parking lot, plus I’ve read research where people in comas can hear and remember what was said to them so I figured it was worth a try.

Sold my tractor. Shortly after I brought it home, my wife told me that I should have gotten a bigger one. Then after we had a guy come in and do some dirt work with a compact track loader, she said I should buy one. So today I sold the John Deere. I got basically what I had in it and got several months work out of it.

I’ll take some time to decide what I want and what I can afford. We’ll see.

Dave, we need to talk
I'd suggest we meet down at the farm
There I have the 30HP tractor, a 66HP tractor and of course the 96HP compact track loader
Try out each one and decide
Personally, if you are developing property, taking it from a wild state to a more refined one, then the CTL is definitely the way to roll (Get it, "way to roll")
But if your property is already well developed and you don't need to dig foundations, put in roads, clear paths through the woods and things like that, then a larger wheeled tractor is the way to go.
No doubt, a CTL is more fun BY FAR (I MEAN THE ULTIMATE BIG KIDS TOY) but does damage the grass some.
You can rent CTL's for around $200 ish a day I think.
But if you decide to buy one, I think I can weigh in here
Don, I’ll gladly take you up on this offer. I’d love to be able to compare/contrast the different machines.  I’ve run bigger tractors before, but mainly for bush hogging, and rented bobcats before, but the wheeled variant.  I’m just worried your going to make me ride the whole way to the hide site blindfolded and trussed up in the back of the truck.  ;)

Almost finished with the roof on the garage. My demo crew consisted of 7 of my kids, age range from 3-15. The roofing crew was me and my two oldest boys, 13 and 14. Looking good so far. Just need to trim the last sheet of roofing for width and put the trim on and finish the rest of the screws in the field.

Took the kids out shooting last night. Eight of them shot, from the 17 year old down to the three year old. It was fun, had the Ruger 10/22, a Rossi single shot 22, my Ruger LCP .380, and my .45. They all enjoyed it and they all got to put holes in the targets. They especially enjoyed when I put the 410 barrel on the Rossi and shot a couple of milk jugs full of water making them explode. All in all a good evening.
