As of right now we are still a go for 05/27 but the weather in not looking real good.

If any of you have your kids at home please try to have them watch the launch, the USA is back in business of putting our own Astronauts in orbit on USA built and designed rockets.

I bet if that had been a military launch those guys would be circling the earth right now. But given the visibility this launch has with a private company doing America's first launch after the Obama space crushin' years, I suspect the safety nazis are in full control. But if we needed those guys and payload in orbit it would have made it. Hat's off to SpaceX and the folks in NASA who allowed this marriage to take place. It is the future for sure.

You would be correct.  This mission belongs to NASA so ultimately it’s 100% their call if we launch or not.

IMO LEO will be abandoned by NASA and it will mostly be commercial investment.  I predict rocket travel with become like airline travel in our lifetimes and cell phones will go the way of land lines.

Still have to talk on something. I like the new stuff but I fear tracking users and so on is getting closer.

Yes it will be like a sat phone.  It’s not getting close it is already here JR if they really want to track you they will warrant or not.

This will just bring it to the global level.

Sat phones have been here for a long time, cell too. Just getting easier to put a sat up vs a cell tower every 5 miles.

Well, they still need a warrant for real tracking IHO. But with all those disclosures you sigh, who knows?

I am waiting for the first real case against drone surveillance. When I was an LEO you could not look over things/fences ect. that was not considered normal. You needed a warrant. Now they fly a drone over your prop (sat maps are diff) and they see what you are doing. Where has our privacy gone?

Privacy, essentially no longer exists. For lots of electronic reasons.

Satellites are the new cell towers. And are continuing to improve with each launch. With in a couple years there will be a satellite network that allows you to go to 90% of the globe with one provider. You will have everything your current phone has for around the same price.

The potential for starlink to overtake all communication tasks (not data storage), is through the roof. The technology is always improving, which means more data can be moved easier. At this point, it is a matter of time to when it’s available, no longer is it an IF it will happen.

My son and I watched the launch and it was spectacular. Took me back to my childhood. They should have a stream in Black and White with Walter Cronkite dubbed in. Lol.

I am truly jealous of Yusaku Maezawa.

Well not really, everybody tracks everybody.  It’s pretty amazing what we can track and what we know is up ther and where it is.

Not so much in LEO, but almost all commercial units are underwritten but the space insurance industry is a whole different animal.

That is cool. Is that for heavy lift?

How come we don't land men like the regular craft vs splashdown? Long term safety?
