I remember my first Carbine class. Had my new shiny Bushmaster. It was my first AR. It was cold and wet. Muddy actually. I was so scared I was going to scratch it.
By the time I got done I was covered in mud the weapon was muddy and all scatched up. I never again had a safe queen AR after that. Toss em scratch em rattle can them and keep shooting!

So for a little mini update. To go with the fire pit I wanted to build a fire wood rack. This thing is massive. 2x4 heavy wall rectangular tubing. 10 ft long and 6 ft tall. Have to go into town tomorrow and get some 2 inch angle to make the braces for the roof. It will have a slanted metal roof to keep the wood dry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We have real heroes like this that typically go unnoticed and the thugs like Michael Brown and Freddy Gray and the punks at the mall in Louisville get attention.

Mall brawls: Teens terrorize holiday shoppers http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/12/28/mall-brawls-teens-terrorize-holiday-shoppers.htmlI can't believe no one was arrested. Anyone with half a brain knows the more you let kids get away with things the more they push the boundaries. We needed some SRT guys going through that crowd with batons and tear gas. Then arrest every stinkin one of them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Yes a Chono will be nice to have. I splurged and bought a Ohler 35P with the printer years ago and never regretted it.
However, remember the bullet does not lie. You can reverse engineer your velocity if you have the barrel length and BC of the projectile along with good real world dope data. I really only use it to work up max loads to see when the charge/velocity relationship changes. And I sometimes use it as a baseline for my dope cards but shoot the distances in the real world and adjust the card accordingly. In reality the ballistics software I use is so accurate I often just run the trajectory tables from my load work up in the software and it gets me pretty close so I can shoot it in the real world.
The rabbit hole goes deep and it is always hungry for money.... :-)

Keith you have a nice starter set up there. Congratulations. "The ABCs of Reloading was my first book" and I recommend it. There are many philosophies on reloading. The BR guys will size, trim, sort by weight, check case capacity with water, chamfer neck, check neck tension and hand weigh all charges and weigh the bullets and sort them by weight, and even a few more steps. I admit, I do some of those things for my precision rifle, for hunting I stick with the basics. Size and trim to consistent length, chamfer the mouth, weigh each charge on an RCBS chargemaster, set the OAL at the optimum for that particular rifle and then let it fly. The other best piece of equipment to have is a free-bore gauge or overall length gauge. The amount of freebore varies greatly and setting your projectile about .002 off the lands gives the best "jump" so that you get the projectile engaged in the lands consistently. SAAMI OAL is kinda average and you want to produce rounds that are ideal for your particular rifle. Just don't make the assumption that you can use that ammo in another weapon without checking that other rifles free bore and OAL. The risk is you jamb the round into the lands and if you extract the round you could leave the projectile stuck in the lands and on Max loads, the extra pressure of being jambed in to the lands might just make it too hot a load. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/570611/hornady-lock-n-load-overall-length-gage-bolt-actionhttp://www.larrywillis.com/OAL.htmlThen start saving money for the RCBS Chargemaster..... The other thing I recommend is Quickload software. Allows you to model different powders, projectiles, burn rates, and trajectory tables Enjoy!

Dave, every child is different and the consequences of the failure of the child to heed the rules are catastrophic.
I began to teach my girls at 5&7 respectively the 4 rules.
1. every weapon is always loaded 2. never point a weapon at anything you do not wish to kill or destroy 3. never place your finger on the trigger until you are on target and ready to fire 4. Always know your target and what is beyond it.
Now they are not excited about shooting like I wished, but they absolutely know the rules and I trust them around weapons at 10&12.

Just ordered a new Redhead steering box. I'm determined to do the anti-Norm build. It had a little slack at 137k but I want a new feeling truck when I'm done. I have a new door panel for the driver side and a new power mirror switch. This should be nice enough for a daily driver.
As much as I love the roar of the LB7 straight pipes out the side in front of the rear wheel I'm probably going to put a new system with a muffler on it.

They're onto something. Make sure that bolt catch is not binding. Spit the upper and lower and insert a mag. See if the mag puts enough pressure on the catch to move it freely as you push down on the follower and release it slowly.

This is my favorite part of camping. Up before the others, building a fire, watching the sun come up and drinking coffee. It's a great time to reflect. Reflect on my failures. Reflect on my accomplishments. As a husband, as a father, and as a Christian. I know that I fail daily and I am comforted by the thought of Christ's sacrifice for me specifically. And that because if His love I am perfect in the eyes of the Father. Am however reminder that I am to "keep his commandments" and that every day sanctification is a progress And at the end of my first cup of coffee. I am indeed thankful. Have a great day Real Men Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My patience is growing.
I was standing at the counter of the state park paying for my stay when a guy walks in with a bundle of firewood demanding a refund because it was defective. " a ceramic log would have burned better, we used the fire starter (a wax and saw dust cup) and it wouldn't start. All we had for a fire was the fire starter."
This firewood I had bought the night before and had no problem with it. You can't take a wax fire starter and set it under a big hunk of tight grained live oak and spect it to burst into flame.
It was all I could do to not to say something pithy like " wow, that Eagle Scout badge came in handy". SMH. Got to get some smaller pieces off of it to get a fire going before you burn an 20 inch 4 inch diameter piece of hardwood....
Worst part was he was being an ass in front of his kids and wife.
It's those kind of people that won't make it with the fecal matter hits the fan.
