Yeah. And you can get them for like $1 on sale. I've lusted after rope LEDs but when I can replace the entire set up every 3 years for $5. It's hard to spend the money.

Thanks all. Ken yes those are lights traditionally used for Christmas.   Hard for most people to understand but I don't celebrate Christmas. Probably start some arguments here but suffice to say I'm not catholic. If you research the origins of Christmas it dates to the 4th century AD when the Catholics were trying to convert Romans and they inserted the holiday on top of the Romans Saturnalia holiday. Protestants didn't adopt until the 1800s and then it was only to compete for church goers during the holidays when they wanted a party too.

Christ was born in August or September as far as historical records can tell. Flocks are not in the field in December. As we are only commanded to celebrate His death in Corinthians. That was what provided salvation. No where are we commanded to celebrate His birth.

I use them year round for camp illumination though and get a smokin deal in replacements each year about this time

If I recall you were wanting longer range. Not my thing with a 556 but if that's your bag then stay away from steel cases ammo In your chamber. Black Hills makes some good ammo and they have a 77gn Sierra Match King that will get out there well.

BC is a measure of how efficiently the projectile cuts the air. Bigger number is better. Eg VLD (very low drag) bullets from Berger have some outstanding BCs. Generally the larger(longer) projectiles have better BC. Think of it like throwing a wiffle ball versus a base ball. You might get the wiffle going faster at first but it slows considerably versus the baseball over distance.

Meh. I like the softer ride of the IFS. Tate so a diff out of a 2010 will bolt up to my 2001?  Good to know. I'll keep an eye out for a spare. I'd go 4:10 if I had a six speed. But with 35s that may be a bit low for a five speed.

Nicely done Big Dave!

Shouldn't be much climb on a semi.  On full, aim a little low and to the left and let it walk up and over for a 3-4 round burst, crossing the torso and "stitching it up"

Well the movie was awesome.  No spolier. We saw it in 3D and that was the first time I've ever seen a 3D movie.  Wow, that technology was incredible too.  Flemings is good.  But there are a lot of great steakhouses in Houston.  That particular one has the tops set way to close together and they really aren't set up well for parties of 6 or 8.  They have the right set up for couples, 4s and 10 and 12s but for 8 it was just too crowded at the size table they had for us.

The theater was well run and drama free.  No 30.06 sign and no wands.  Carried all night at the restaurant and the theater.  Better to have it and not need it

I'm about to leave with my girls to go see it.  Doing a daddy daughter night with two other dads and their girls.  Dinner at Flemings and show at 10:30.  Wondering if I should carry.  Not sure if they'll be wanding but there have been some potential threats around the country.

I grew up seeing that dejavu sign in Fort Wayne Indiana......

Sooo many places I could go with that one..but I'll leave it laying...

However, I think what I saw my dad do one day could have made the list of pictures here.

45ft boom lift cutting down a dead tree in the back yard.  Couldn't quite get to where he wanted to up a bit higher.

Took a 10 ft. section of aluminum ladder and ratchet strapped it to the bucket and leaned it out onto the tree and was out on that with a chainsaw when I arrived on the scene....

Now for the kicker, he was 70 years old when he did it and he spent 40 years as a union ironworker so he KNOWS that's not OSHA compliant...

I told him I'm glad I stopped by and if he survived the fall I would make sure I was standing there laughing at him for being stupid...in a loving tone of course..

Thanks Rich,

I have everthing from Lupy $200 scopes up to the USO and Schmidt and Bender. They all have their places.

I've heard that the gears in the erector system of some lesser scopes are nylon versus brass and that the construction is such that repeatability is not as good.  Even some of the early generation USO scopes needed to be dialed past and retruned to zero from the same direction each time to retain accurate zeros for that matter.

Also that the glass from Schott in Germany increases the cost dramatically over some of the Japanese glass that has gotten very good (e.g. like the Vortex Razor HD and some of the Nikon lenses)

What intrigues me is that a scope that has a reticle such as yours would not require as much dialing since elevation and holds are contained the in reticle.  That would seem to negate the "need" for a super high end scope for some peopele and make a lower priced scope with lesser construction in the erector system make a lot of sense for a mid range rifle, say 700M and in, where density altitude and other factors affecting long range shots are not as critical.  Say, an AR-10 or the like where quick target acquisition and follow up shots would be ideal.

Woudl love for you to shed some light on how erector systems are manufactured and what makes a long lasting, consistently repeatable, erector system and how that impacts the cost of construction (apart from Pacific Rim manufacturing cost differences) as well as an estimate of the impact of cost on a scope just for the step up to German glass from Japanese glass and your opinion of the value or lack thereof.

Rich, welcome.  I think some insight into the differece between a $3,000 optics and a $300 optic would be helpful.

Things like construction of the erector system, glass, and other parts would be great.

Thanks!

Yeah, I only want to have to tear it down once.  I value my time more than parts.  When I'm done I want 100K out of it without having to work on it (at least that part of it).  Given that I drive it about 3,000 miles a year that should last me a while....

As for me,  my motto is "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst"

Remember in Matthew when He says

34 “Do not think that I came to [ac]bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.

Correct RN. With it being a term from antiquity, it begs the question, do they (Islam) still view that land as theirs? Subtle way of denying the existence of the Jewish state.

I'm tracking with you BD.  Just posted it for some context.  I've never paid attention to who else, if any, around the world uses ISIL, but I will be on the lookout now.  I don't doubt for a moment that we have the Muslim sympathizer in chief in the WH

TRN, I think that unknown item he posted may be a qd attachment point for his rail....

Could be, but the lack of clearance around the hole makes me think it is for a clip like this

Looks good Dave.

Single points are nice but the weapon flops around when you transition to a sidearm or have to do something else with your hands like climb, rappel, etc.

I prefer 2 point so you can sling it up over your back if you have to run, climb, transition, etc.  That hole in your stock acccepts QD sling attachment.  Hopefully you have one on the rail you plan to use as well.
