Adding a good friend Mike, he is having a very risky open heart surgery on Thursday of this week. I realize all open heart surgeries are risky but this is deep back by his spine. Six months ago it was going to involve six separate surgeries. With advances in technology it's down to one as of Thursday. I don't know his current state with Christ. I have reached out to him in a very blunt fashion about this subject this morning. I awoke thinking heavily about him and then he texted me about his surgery. I figure that was a sign I needed to reach out to him.

Update: as I wrote this his wife sent me the text below

"Mike let me read your text.  You are amazing!  You said so many things that are good for Mike to hear!  He will be texting you later after he figures out how to respond to you.  He doesn't know I am sending this.  Don't saything please!"

Last I knew his wife was an atheist, maybe no longer after that above text?

So with that stated please pray for his acceptance of Christ. Also, I ask for you to pray for me to find the correct words and speak Christ's truth to him. In addition if you could pray for a safe surgery for him that would be great as well.

God Bless

Shawn, any update on Mike and your conversation?

Nothing today, yesterday he came back late with the "I believe in God and always figured I'm a good person" line of thinking.

And I called him on that quicker than spotting Ken with an H bumper sticker!!!!

In all seriousness though I acknowledged his thought process and told him unfortunately being a good person is great but it's not the going to be enough. I substantiated it with scripture and told him I was here for him. I told him this group of knuckleheads would be praying for him in his surgery and also for him to open his heart, no pun intended.

Another part of his argument was that the messengers have always seemed to screw this up IE: Churches and I agreed with him and assured him I didn't need a 10% donation. I even offered to set him up with the one great pastor I knew if he had time.

So no response to that yet, I liken this to a gut punch because I tend to believe I may be the only person around him that would say these things to him. Him and I have a long history and he knows I truly care about him. He did acknowledge I am one of the few he truly trusts and I think that in of itself was a positive. So I think he is trying to process all of this, I hope that is the case.

Will continue to pray for him and his surgery to go off without a hitch and a speedy recovery; for his wife too.  You have planted the seed......we all need to water them via erneast prayer over the next 24+ hours.

He responded this morning with a text. He's fairly stressed and his mind is working overtime.

He has been praying, I think that is a positive. Knowing I may not hear from him again I responded with the verse John 3:16 and the simple message that verse conveys which is God sent his son here to earth to die a horrible death on a cross for our sins. If we accept that as truth with our mouths and in our heart we are saved.

I then included the sinners prayer or prayer of salvation. I told him if he is praying then you're 9/10's the way there already.

The message was finished letting him know that a bunch of sorry sinners he had never met were asking for updates on him wanting to know how they could pray for him as they were concerned about his health and soul.

Update: he just responded back "thanks Shawn, I can accept that"

Thank you guys for everything.

This may sound selfish, but just reading through all the responses and posts on here for Shawn's friend Mike, whom I'm guessing most of you have never and will never meet really makes me feel good and glad that I found this forum. It's very encouraging and strengthening to be even a small part of it. Thanks to all and prayers to Shawn, mike, and his wife as well as all of you.

Mike had surgery today, it sounds as if they were able to do everything in one operation. His boy just texted me telling me he is off the pump doing well and Dr. Will be out shortly. Thanks for everyone's prayers.

Last update I received was around 11:30 their time last night. He was moved into ICU, reflex test on left leg was good. It was however inconclusive on his right leg. They were going to try and wake him last night. Possibly pull vent & confirm his right leg. According to my wife with sedation that can take awhile for your limbs to respond coming out of it.

He was in surgery for 12.5 hours. They grafted bypasses on both sides of his heart. His aorta was so inflamed it was the size of a bicep & normally it is 1.5" OD. My wife stated that was a ticking time bomb & when it goes the only sign is some back pain and death usually takes an hour so by the time they find out what's going on your dead. So he's lucky & or blessed we feel that they got in there in time.

He did have an aneurism in his abdomen but the surgeon was not concern with it at this time. He was stable throughout the entire operation which was good.

All in all it sounds pretty good knowing how extreme of a surgery he went through yesterday. Continued prayers for full recovery. When I know more I'll update.

Shawn I'm glad to hear that. Very good news.  Prayers for continued improvement for Mike.

I think dealings like this with folks who may be resistant to prayer etc are meant to be a test for us too. So keep doing what you're doing. I trust Mike will find his path. And I admire what you are doing on spreading the Word.

Take time and read through these as if it was a spiritual build thread, less detailed than what brought us strangers together but absolutely more important than our original intent.  Don took the lead and the sheep followed, lots of answered prayers and a testimony strengthener to see the lords hand in all things

Update, still on vent. Hoping to pull it tomorrow along with spinal tap. He has however moved all body parts including legs, arms, head and even scooted his butt around. Things are still moving forward as we had hoped.

Dr's are assuming Mike is Septic, been running a high fever and they are treating him with antibiotics as they narrow down here the infection is exactly. Next 24-48 hours are critical for him. The had his temp down to 102 and held it there yesterday and today. Continued prayers please.

No updates with him & haven't spoke to her since that one morning and she had asked me not to tell him but I think as I stated she had told me he needed to hear the things I was stating.

Raising an unstated request for one of our member's spouse. Keeping it generic...

Prayers for healing

and another need of that family...

Just pray over this and the Holy Spirit will know who you are raising up...

Update for Mikes physical status. As of late yesterday they had stabilized his temp down to 99 degrees & he was scheduled to get dialysis yesterday. However, his results came better than expected & they decided to hold off dialysis for another day. I think both are positives and am thankful. God is good.....
