Wild Game / Favorite Shotgun Gauge for Upland Hunting
« on: May 05, 2015, 05:59:48 PM »
What's your favorite gauge shotgun for carrying and shooting effectively for a long weekend of upland hunting?  Not sitting on your duff having game driven or called to you, but following dogs, spot and stalk or group driving after upland birds, rabbits or squirrels?  You can add what action/style you prefer as well, in your reply and explain your rational as well.  ::)

Financial Prep / Americas Book of Secrets
« on: April 30, 2015, 05:40:18 PM »
So interesting tie in with previous topics regarding Gold and it's low price, WMF and America in cahoots to manipulate Golds price to shore up the Dollar.  On the above mentioned show on History Channel last night, there's "Mancow" (the brother of the car salesman giving away guns that the video clip of him treating the reporter to a good mind bending experience) basically expressing his observations and views on the ARTIFICIALLY LOW PRICE OF GOLD and how China, Russia, England etc. are snatching it up, especially after a HUGE sell-off BY the good ole' USA?  There was mention of previous  sell-off right after we went off the Gold standard under Nixon.......probably explains the movement of armored warfare from Ft. Knox......nothing left to guard maybe? :o

Faith Discussion / Faith Based Initiative

Okay, let's scratch our souls and our grey matter at the same time:

You're supreme authority of the US for a day, and whatever law you come up with gets passed and becomes reality, but you can only pick one, and it needs to be faith based- what do you do?

Mine-

In order to collect Welfare, you and every dependent you claim, must attend church together every week.  (Church, Synagogue, Mosque [outta wedlock mothers last there?] etc.).   Don't want to, don't collect- kids don't want to, no credit for them.

Faith Discussion / There's Still Hope!
« on: April 16, 2015, 06:03:12 PM »
So sitting here at the Socialist.....er' I mean Illinois Education Association Representative Assembly and put before us was a motion to eliminate an Invocation from the opening of the Assembly, by any religious figure......this year was a priest, previously there have been pastors, rabbis etc.

The Political Correct crowd wants to deny recognition of any deity as well as denying others recognition of such (Christ for me) as their embrace of Religious Freedom; er' freedom FROM religion I guess.

Well, upon being called for a VOTE, was DEFEATED!

Thankfully, even in this land of liberalism and secular progressivism,

The majority of Illinois Teachers still acknowledge GOD!
Back to wallowing in liberalism...... :-X

Faith Discussion / Answered prayers and Trust
« on: March 10, 2015, 06:25:14 AM »
Originally posted under financial prep:  :)

So, I pulled the trigger on a Self Directed IRA just short of a month ago.  Got the paper work filled, etc. and got the "funding" check from my previous Mutual Fund.  I prayed about making the right decision and asked God to bless and guide me through the process.

As requested (prayer) my Mutual shares increased in value daily up to the conversion and Gold and Silver dropped and stayed steady until I got the funding check.

Now you can't really open a checking account for this program without using IRA Funds- specific RULES about co-mingling funds etc.  So check comes Sat. (Instead if Friday as planned) and I TRY to open the LLC checking account at CHASE where my other accounts are.  Well, for some reason, J.P. Morgan Chase will not allow a LLC to open an account for Investment purposes without being registered in Land of Stinkin' too!?  So NUTS, Gold was down $35 further and I wanted to get the conversion to the "shiny stuff" while the price was low!

Contacted the people at Broad Financial and they clarified that it was unnecessary to follow Chase requirements and sent me the written proof etc.  So today, I take those papers into a Chase brace close to work figuring they'd get a better grasp of the situation and NOPE, they just no longer allow business checking accounts for investment purposes etc.

So, the nice lady who TRIED to help me suggests that I try a Local Bank down the road, which I do, no issue!  Now through the early part of previous 48 hours, I was pretty stressed over "missing the boat on price" part of the prayed for process.......until I remembered to "TRUST IN THE LORD" as I was walking out Chase.

Got home to discover that, as I was panicked (Gold price rose during the day) over not being able to pull the trigger when "I" desired, Gold had dropped to lower than when I initially wished to purchase, when I was finally able to place the order!  I ended up with MORE of the shiny stuff than I would have otherwise.

Big reminder to TRUST in The Lord as his plans are better than ours, and he answers our prayers when we have faith and remember to be patient!

Financial Prep / LLC Questions
« on: February 10, 2015, 06:53:44 PM »
Hey there all-

Setting up my "Self-Directed IRA" via Jay Goldblatt at Broad Financial, and thought I'd pose some questions for Don to answer since he's one of the catalysts that have me heading down this road through his own discussion of his experiences with the program.

Did you list others as members if the LLC ?  If so, why, whom, etc.?

Any lessons or advice you'd share having already lived the process?

Given that I'm not full retirement age for an IRA yet, and I can still make contributions from income, any insight into that process?

Obviously, if Jay is on here, answer away publicly or anyone else for that matter, as I'm posing these questions for myself and others who might be considering doing likewise. ???

I've contemplated this for some time with micro-chips in dogs, but NOW it's been announced for people.  West Coast Tech Companies have offered a small chip implanted under employees skin to replace their ID's and they can pay for things using it too-

Refuse the Mark of the Beast!

Came across two from my 2005 Silverado - if anyone is interested, let me know and they're yours for a donation to the Feed the Homeless project of Don's.   They open and lock the doors and trip a panic alarm - not for auto-start.

Typing through misty eyes:

Just had a student in my class quietly pray with another student at the sink in the room.  The one student was quietly upset, I asked her if there was something I could help Her with; she replied no.  The Boy across from Her quietly asked if he could pray about her concern and did so........going for Kleenex now.

At 62,000 miles on the 2012 Duramax, I took it in for front brakes.  Sad state of affairs- most local shops don't turn rotors around here as large as these, so "do it yourself" is near impractical!  I'll be able to do the rears, as the rotors on back looked great upon inspection, so slipping new pads in will be "doable" at home.

While they had it, I had then "check out" an occasional smell of the DEF exhaust that'd hang in the cab at warm-up and idle at times.  Seems there's an ill fitting pipe off the turbo, down the back of the engine........I believe we all witnessed the fun Don had with that!  Anyway, being still under the emissions warranty, the parts are on order and will be installed by the Dealership on GMs dime!  Thought I'd pass that along in case someone else might be experiencing this.  Didn't get any specifics on the bulletin, but I'm fairly certain it'd be available on-line.

Hope this helps someone!

Faith Discussion / For those in doubt or need.....

As we continue down the road of one of the most perilous times of our country in my life time, I found this verse in a communication from my daughter's teacher:

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."   -  Isaiah 41:10

Classifieds / Tires Needed
« on: November 20, 2014, 09:47:33 PM »
Looking to replace the tires on my 2012 Duramax and need to stay within the E load range.  Stock tires have served me well (265/70R18 Michellin LTX)

Hoping somebody has some they've changed out for more aggressive tires and are looking to sell.

My truck sees asphalt and an occasional mulch bed; on rare occasion a farm field or forest road chasing various winged prey with the dogs.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Thank you Veterans!
« on: November 11, 2014, 08:29:31 AM »
For your voluntary service to our Nation, those of us who didn't/couldn't serve, thank everyone of you who answered the call and were/are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to procure the freedoms we all enjoy.

We also humbly remember and honor those who've paid the true cost of our freedom; God bless their families and friends deprived of their presence.

Thank you & God Bless you all-

Mike

Everything Trailer, Camper, or RV related / Microwave trick
« on: November 06, 2014, 08:38:15 AM »
So after having the turn-table glass rattle around and end up all outta wack each time I towed somewhere, I cut a paper towel tube to length to solve the issue.  Well, that only works for so long and you must replace it.  Finally ended up with a much better alternative - pool noodles!  Cut a chunk to a little longer than needed and wedge it upright between the top of the microwave and the glass turntable!  No rattle or breakage!

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Inner Voices
« on: November 05, 2014, 09:19:58 PM »
There's a country song by Chris Young, titled "Voices" that speaks of dwelling on and heading the words spoken to us by our parents and grand parents throughout our, and their lives.  Often, we don't remember them until they're gone, or a life event reminds us of the hidden truths of their advice and sage axioms.

The Holy Spirit is also an inner voice that inhabits our minds from the moment of our salvation, until we're called into the presence of The Lord.  At times, it roars and rings in our ears like a trumpet and is hard to ignore or miss, at other times, it comes as a whisper as soft as smoke passing your ear.

It's that sudden urge to call someone we haven't spoken to for way too long.  A sudden impulse to extend a hello, good morning or simply smile at a stranger.  Perform a random act of anonymous kindness, or recognize someone publicly for things often overlooked.  We are moved to take a leap of faith, share with a stranger what we may "feel" they need, be it material or words- that unexplainable urge to act.

Far too often, we hear instead, the words of impatience, anger and selfishness......Satan speaks to us as well.  I know I've been tempted in word, thought and flesh daily my entire conscious life!  We need to hear and acknowledge that voice and answer it with an emphatic NO.

"Lord, open my ears that I may hear, embolden my spirit that I may act, strengthen my mind that I may know, and soften my heart so that I may feel and share your love!" -Amen

May we all act upon our Godly inner voices as we build this community, here online and where we live!  Do something you might have thought about or feel moved to right after you read this- God Bless you and those around you!  :)

I took a cedar fence board and plained it into curly strips for tinder.  Took another 4 and split them into thin sticks.  Put 1/4 of the tinder into each vacuum bag and sealed them. Even if a board should break the seal, everything stays put and dry! :)

Two dear friends from my "dog world" are in need:  Jane, like a mother to me, has some form of lung cancer along with short term memory issues, just hospitalized this weekend.

Paul, just diagnosed with some form of Brain Cancer and is undergoing testing tomorrow.  He's single so his support network is smaller, but has some very close friends.

Both are from Michigan- great people, salt if the earth type and genuine caring souls.

Thanks- Mike

Financial Prep / How much?
« on: September 19, 2014, 06:33:38 AM »
How much physical hard assets should one have on hand in a SHTF scenario?

For example, how much 90% silver coinage, how much 40% silver coinage, how much paper cash (worthless?) and how much gold & silver bullion?

Obviously, more is better, but what would or should be a comfortable amount?
