Too easy!

Then when you add the odd application of torque I get with the stock LS to the picture it becomes much more clear.  I will say the stock diff has unexpectedly made the tailgate try to pass the front bumper on rain slick roads when it suddenly engaged breaking the tires loose suddenly.  Added torque will only make this problem worse.  I would like it to be more predictable.

152
I think you're right JR.  I certainly don't want to spend all the money and time required to get the proper ratio in there and then just have to break it open again to replace parts once I apply all of that twist to the rear.

153
The plan is for this truck to be pushing 1000 lb-ft of torque at some point before too long.  It's sounding more and more like the locker would be the way to go for long-term durability as well as insurance when I do venture into some wet grass.  All joking aside the truck only sees anything near what many of the guys here would consider off road when I take the kids shooting or hunting.  Rough farm roads/trails and across fields.

154
I do hate it when this one decides to slam into lock on a wet road or in one of those notorious mulch beds.

I know you've mentioned yours eats rear tires Don, but at least you know it's locked.

155
Thanks Tate!

The truck is low miles, under 25k.  Is there any reason to consider replacing the bearings or is a basic install kit all that is needed?  I want to do it right, but there's no need to waste money either.  I also see a huge price difference between the Yukon and Chrysler PN.  Is it just normal OEM price gouging or is there a difference in the parts?

Sounds like the duragrip will be the right fit for me.  Any other recommendations?

157
Looking for some advice and discussion as I ponder swapping the 3.42s in my 2013 Ram CTD to possibly 4.10s along with a new locker or limited slip option.  Not something I've ever done, but I refuse to be beaten and I'll never learn how by paying someone.

I've run the handy ratio calculator Don posted and feel like the 4.10s should put me about where I'd like to be running 35s.  It looks like the Yukon Dura Grip might be the best option for me.  I'll be deleting and programming the truck in the new few months and I think this is the perfect project to go along with those updates.

Should I be looking at additional upgrades for the front diff?

Any advice, warnings, teachin' or criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Ken, give the R/Ts a look as well if you haven't already.  Mine have performed flawlessly this winter on the highway and in some light off-road and muddy field work.  The fit right between the A/T 2s and M/Ts.

Don, I think I've read that 18" is the size to stick with because the 17" tires can't carry as much weight and there's less selection in a 17". I may be wrong though.
I thought it was the other way around

Anyone care to comment?

I was wrong about something decades ago, so I might have just done it again! ;-))

The availability by size greatly depends on brand.  It would be really hard to say for sure.  It does seem that 37s are a bit hard to find in an 18.  It is very true that the 18's usually carry a higher load capacity than an equivalent 17.  I'm very happy with my new Toyo R/Ts in a 35x12.5R18.

Now that the 13+ Rams can be tuned and deleted the fun really begins.  I'll start a thread when that build-up/tear-down starts.  Possibly a trans build or replace as well sometime down the road.

Here are a few close ups of the tires.  They nearly swallow a dime.

I should clarify.  The first was rebuilt (new pistons, rings, ect.) due to excessive use of oil.  1.5 t o2 quarts per 1000 miles.  The second was due to technician error.  A snap ring came loose scoring #2 cylinder.  Dealer replaced the entire engine.  After the first oil change on the new motor the oil consumption was back.  1 quart of oil per tank of fuel.

I believe it was tied to displacement on demand.  Have you ever followed a full-sized GM truck or SUV down the highway and seen a puff of smoke when they accelerate after a long down grade or flat section of highway?  Anyway, that 5.3 LOVED oil and I was sick of hearing.  "That's normal for this motor." or "Don't worry about it, it is within spec."  A new truck that burns that much oil doesn't work for me.  I traded for this Cummins and have been very pleased.  These new Ram trucks have come a long way.

I'm a DOT on my own thread!

Nice truck.

Thanks Bobby!  It is a work in progress that will take years at this rate, but I'm happy with it so far. My first non-GM truck, but my 2011 gasser was going on it's third motor in under 25k miles.  I decided to head in a different direction.

These are the R/Ts.  Super quiet so far Ken, can't tell much difference in these and the Firestone Transforce HTs that were on it.  Even my wife commented on how quiet they are.

I'll get some better pics of them for you all.  I ended up buying from treaddepot.com good price and service.

I finally got around to putting some new rubber on my truck.  So far I'm very happy with these Toyos.  They ride smooth and are very quite for the aggressive tread design.  Time will tell the rest of the story, but they appear to be a great A/T M/T alternative.

Meguiars cleaner wax is the perfect finishing touch.  I think you'll be amazed by the eraser.  Just get the corner ramp and start working on those spots.

There are a lot of great products out there.  The best part about this one is I swipe them from under the kitchen sink.  My wonderful wife finds them handy as well and as far as I know she's not caught on to me pilfering them yet.

70 on anything but calm water is downright scary.

Those Navee guys wearing the trident...those guys...

Well they liked to play around with we Armee Spec-ops pilots. One of their favorite traps we'd fall into was to invite us out for a nice little boat ride. Well, out of those boat rides, most pilots suffered some sort of trauma, and one guy broke a leg.

Going fast on water is like, well, what is it like...Well maybe like jumping off the roof of your house into the lawn about 30 times a minute...for awhile

I don't like no fast boats!

But yours is nice!

Like any vehicle it often isn't prudent to run as fast as they will go.  That fear can help keep us alive!

Here are a few pics of my boat.  It isn't really a survival craft, but it is very versatile and it gets the family out on the water together.

The boat is a Bay Charger 2230L with some custom touches we requested.  Total weight on the trailer with fuel and provisions for a day on the water is around 6,000 lbs.  It will run up to 70 mph with a light load which makes beating a storm back to the dock much easier.

The boat also has snap-in carpet (not shown in the pics) for those hot days out playing on the water.

The last time I had my boat out I pulled it home in the rain and needless to say it was a mess.  It was late and I did't bother cleaning it up.  I'm sure you've all dealt with road grime it can be hard to get off and add to that the turd line (as I like to call it) from Lake of the Ozarks and you have a real mess on your hands.

So the boat has been sitting for a week with all that crud just getting baked on.  I've also picked up several marks from docks, shoes, and the bow roller on this spring's fishing trips.

So after Church today I set out to get it clean.  I know everyone has their favorite products, I usually just stick to a high quality boat wash and wax as well a good vinyl cleaner (I really like Mothers).  Recently after a good soapy wash I've been looking for something to take off light scratches, stains and marks. I've discovered Magic Eraser works amazingly well.  You can now find it in the autocare section in most stores.  It will remove light surface scratches, marks from docks, shoes, your bow roller, stains and oil residue, as well as the dirt that makes deeper scratches show up more.  Over all I've been amazed with how well it works. I would recommend an application of a quality wax or polish after extensive use of the eraser as it can seem to leave a slight haze in areas that require a lot of elbow grease.

Many of you may already be using it, but if you aren't give it a shot. It's a good item to have on hand.

Don, what sort of mileage are you going to get out of your Toyos and how noisy are they? I spend most of my time on the highway and pulling the boat. I love the looks of the tire and want something that will get me in and out of deer camp but I don't want a bowling tire for those long road trips.

Lookin' great Don!  Following all of your builds for a long time.  I've learned a lot that I may never use, but the longer this goes on the harder I look at some of those old square Chebbys I pass on my way to and from work.  Keep up the great work.  I can't wait to see Square D rolling under it's own power.

I thought I would take a second to introduce myself here on the new site.  I've been following along on duramaxforum since nearly the beginning.  I don't post but I have sent a private message or two back and forth with Don.

I for one appreciate what you're doing here Don and am greatly looking forward to reading, sharing and getting to know you all as time passes.
