Skunk w/ the Diabeeeeeetus under the house
« on: April 16, 2018, 08:33:00 AM »
Nothing has lured this skunk out from the depths of despair, aka - under our house. We noticed our smelly resident about a month ago. I've tried baiting it with anything i can think of including banana, peanut butter, marshmallows, cat food. Nothing. Nada.

I popped my head under the house yesterday evening with my 600 lumen torch, i don't see anything.

I think he has the diabeetus and is avoiding the sugary snack.

Or.

He's dead.

The smell can be super potent or nothing at all from day to day. I've not seen any serious disturbance around the house and the cats and dog aren't going ape like they used to.

Any ideas?

I'll cover you, go in after him.....

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Get a conabear trap and set it right over the hole - no bait.  Keep everything you don’t want dead away from it or on a leash as it’s KILL trap and none o that havaheart shiza. Don’t forget to anchor it with a stake so if it isn’t killed instantly it can’t crawl down and die.

If the smell keeps coming and going he isn't dead.  Not sure about your area but up north here it is breeding season for them.
I wouldn't put a kill trap their.  That is unless you want it to stink like skunk for a couple weeks.  Catch them in a live trap, cover if up before you move it and you won't get sprayed.  Remove from the area to dispatch it.  A clean shot to the head should prevent them from spraying.  Or you can always toss the entire trap in a pond or something for a bit.

i have a no kill trap setup where i think it goes in/out of and so far, nothing.

the pond idea is good, but if word broke i would have domestic pr issues.

No kill trap, your wife get the job of releasing it from the trap? Rodents under the house are always a challenge to get rid of, good luck with it.

You might catch a skunk, but it won’t be the one you’re after and the one you’re after is about to drop a litter and teach you about Skunk Math.......like Chicken, but worse! You’ve trained that one to avoid your trap.......

I've been thinkin' about this whole skunk with diabeetes thing.

The man who came up with something like that is troubled for sure.

A diabetic skunk...

Way too much thinkin about this, way too deep. :blank:

Can a guy who analyzes his pests and critters be all that well adjusted?  :undecided:

or is he a bit a__l? Just sayin...

A bit too much thought here folks.  :knucklehead:

What next, a crow that shows up in the morning with a lisp?

don't judge me unless you have a dog with a criminal record.

the struggle is real.

This is starting to get a bit scary

But having said that, I did have to live with the dreaded, "Red Dog."

That experience alone is what gave me my PTSD-D (Post traumatic stress disorder - dog)

You are probably to new here to know about my dreaded "Red Dog," an evil contrivence of mal nourished and improperly put together left over ground hog parts that my wife brought into our home.
From the first moment I saw it when it was a pup, I didn't want it. She literally held the puppy up by her face and said, so do you want her?
I flatly said, "No, I don't like that mutt," Then my frau turned to the owner and said, "I'll take her!"

From there the evil worked its way into and cursed us. IT peed and crapped everywhere. It chewed up my shoes and clothes, and furniture. It would sneak up while I was working on something and steal the very tool I was using.

Not kidding she would. I was installing the transmission pan on my truck once and set the tool I was using aside while I carefully set the gasket and pushed the pan into place. Then I reached for the tool and it was gone. I used to think I was losing my mind, but later I found the tool out in the shade of a river birch...where the red dog would lay.

I would dream of shooting it, or "Accidentally" running it over, but the dog was always too fast! Then one day an angel came and offered to take the dog and provide a new home for it, and I was delivered

And that's my red-dog story...All that I care to remember of that wretched beast.
