Title: Medicare/Medicade
Post by: oklawall on October 27, 2023, 11:19:46 AM
The wife turned 65 yesterday, and I will do the same in 2 years. Currently, we have Blue Cross and Blue Shield from my work and tricare, and she has Medicare. Does anyone know anything about Medicare and how it works with tricare or a good source to talk to? The government, I think, makes this stuff hard to understand just so they can give you the shaft.

The only thing I know, is that Medicare will be primary. Whatever Medicare does not cover, Tricare is supposed to pick up. I think the American Legion, and or VFW, has people who can assist with explaining how it all works. I would reach out to the Legion first, and see if they can point you in the direction of someone who can explain it in clear layman's terms. Hope that helps!

I didn't think about checking with them. I will have to try and catch them when they are open. Thank you for the suggestion

It is what Sean said.
I have both Medicare, A&B, and Tricare for life.
Any medical bills are first paid by Medicare, then sent to Tricare which pays the balance. You will be out of pocket, nothing.
There was a tripping point that caught me. The doctor's office needs to know to send the request for payment first to Medicare, and then to Tricare. If they do it the other way around, you will get the debt collectors calling. I would have thought the billing department would have known that, but as with all things these days, intelligence comes at a premium.

Sign up for Part B as soon as you are eligible.  It gets more expensive every year you wait to enroll.
