Wow, thank goodness she had a gun or who knows how that would've ended. Glad everything worked out well.

5003
Yeah, that would've sucked. Also glad it wasn't an elk...they are out and about in full force right now.

Kyle, I'm probably going to cut it apart and use regular mesh, like the Name Brands use.

5004
Never looked back Mike. Wifey was freaking out so I told her I saw it jump up and run away. :(

5005
Yeah, all was fine immediately after.

Still want one? I have one ready to ship, just for you. lol

I'll fix it....I have to.....it's not like I can put the old one back in.
My dear wife suggested building a different one...one for towing the trailer, and this one for, well, looks. ...and she's not even blonde.

This thing is just beautiful!

Completely agree!

Hey guys, just made it home. No service where I was, which was kinda nice.

Truck was hitting 225* on the smaller hills, and only 65* ambient. There's no way it would take on the couple of long 6-7% grades between me and my destination, so I pulled it off. The entire rest of the way I was thinking "I hope I don't hit a bird without a grill".

....I guess our lord has a slight sense of humor because I avoided several birds....just before smacking a deer! I slammed on the brakes so hard that everything in the trailer got rearranged, including the ranger after it ripped free from it's tiedowns. The deer missed the grill area (by ---this---much), but caught the bumper.
That all happened 1 mile from a temporary ADOT sign that was lit up with "Watch For Elk". ugh

Then, after setting up camp, we were informed by the forest service that we were about 2 miles from the current largest wildfire in AZ, and that we might want to move since we were directly in it's path, with winds gusting 35.
http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4743/

So, we stayed, hoping for some excitement, and maybe an insurance claim for a new truck and trailer. Sorry to say, we were neither excited, nor driving a new truck at the end of the trip.

Climbed a hill to get a better view:

Koot, 3M makes a paintable seam  sealer called drip check. FYI
That's what I used on my 73 Jimmy when the bed/sides were replaced.

« on: May 18, 2016, 04:19:23 PM »
Update:

I pinched off the fuel supply lines to the injection pump.

I was seeing zero pressure. Now I wonder if that was due to the fact that there is no fuel in the pump or the pump has completely failed...

Next check: Pull the fuel lines to see if there is indeed fuel in them

Wow, yeah that's pretty definitive, unless the fuel drained back into the bucket over night...in which case it shouldn't, which means the check valve in the lift pump is bad, which means it ultimately needs a lift pump....just hope that's all it needs.

Sam, I'm sure you thought of this already but don't you have a wrecking yard somewhere close? that would be the easiest....just remember to solder.

If you want to be 100000% certain, ya have to dead head head the lift pump. We've eliminated "bad supply" and "too much return flow". We haven't eliminated fuel free flowing through the injection pump. If you dead head the lift pump, it will give you a cut and dry answer. Even just cranking it over (not running) will give you actual lift pressure.

That's pretty cut and dry...but one last thing (I promise). Pinch both of those p pump hoses at the same time. You should be able to get a reading just before it dies.

5019
Good question. I had to cut the latch/old grill/crash sensor bracket to get the light were it is...I would have to completely remove the bracket to push the light back anymore. I think when I get time, I'll drill everyone of those 3,429 holes out about 2 sizes.

I really like the look, but there's a reason most companys use wire mesh in front of a radiator. :(

5020

That was my first thought, your free area was reduced by at least half.  Let us know how it runs on a hot day.  But it sure does look awesome!

Small update. I ran around Pheonix this weekend. Not terribly hot, but in stop/go traffic it was warm none the less. The truck came up to 195* and stayed there til I got home. The only problem was that it threw the outside temp gauge off by 9*....it was showing 101 when actual was 92. That tells me there's some dead air in front of the condensor.....so now I might be running higher a/c pressures than before. I relocated the sensor down by the bumper slot and temps are back to being accurate.

The true test will come this weekend when I haul 17k up the mountains to take the wife camping.....and taking enough tools to rip that grill out if needed!

The input shaft has a spring steel tang down the center (that's what the roll pin is at the top). When you turn the wheel, that thin tang flexes and opens the passage way in the valve. That's why you have a little bit of play in the wheel even when the box is adjusted up tight, because the first bit of movement is the "flex" valving.

It will be real tough to push, but you can still push it.

Oh, and yeah, just keep it straight...no side force...should be gtg

I hate to harp on the "lines being crossed" theory, but if they are, you could easily break your arm, so please double check it. Pressure line towards the radiator, return towards the column....and I'm pretty sure they can be swapped on a dodge (but maybe I'm just getting old and can't remember important facts anymore...ha)

I only mentioned backwards because that's what can happen (bumping both directions with no input), and thinking that maybe you built the hoses.
The hydro should make a difference, pressure wise.. Was the truck jacked up when this happened?

5027
Build Threads / Re: M715.9

Could be air, too much pressure from the pump, a bad box, or..........

....hoses hooked up backwards!

Now the next test: With the truck idling, slowly pinch off the return line coming out of the injection pump while watching the gauge. If the pressure stays the same, it's the lift pump. If it climbs, the problem is in the injection pump....takes 2 seconds to find out.

I don't think it would be considered "normal" wear. The Kydex had some rough edges, but not sharp that I could tell. My old holster (uncle Mikes?) didn't leave any marks on it after hunting with it, so not sure what to think. Maybe the coating wasn't fully cured before switching holsters....or maybe I'm expecting to much....I mean, the scratches can't be seen 20 feet away...

Now it's in the truck. I haven't been wearing it to be truthful.

I'm with JR. A torch set is way better for all things ranch related.
Need to heat a cylinder pin on Sarge to drive it out. ...or cut it out..remove rusted parts....rosebud heat/bending....lighting your cigar (Mr Hannibal )....coat hanger welding when the mig  fails....and most importantly, brazing/soldering the still........

That's how I ended up with that post. Cut and pasted after going back. Maybe you're better than me.
