Sam, this really deserves its own thread. It will get lost here!!

??
Sam, I concur, and we do not have a wealth of diesel engine rebuilds. Please, no, pretty please make a thread for what you are doing.
It’s in the works chief.
In a word document currently.
Massaging it all togerther.
Hoping for an easy copy paste.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Great!
Looking forward to it
Calling it what, D-max on ice? Or perhaps, the abominable rebuild? OR diesel rebuild below the ice shelf?? Santa's duramax sled overhaul?

Sorry man ;-)

So as not to junk up Shawns thread I had one of my millwrights make up seal drivers for me. I know…

They’re not super fancy and all anodized like the $200+ ones you can buy. But I guarantee the cost that to make. Lol. Will make the tappy tap tap a whole lot more comfortable. Front main here. Rear main still coming.

And now I have both.

Maybe.

But I call it using available resources.
And keeping a millwright competent on a lathe is a bonus for the company as well.
Our guys don’t get a lot of machining time. So when the opportunity arises they love it.
And it keeps their skills sharp.

It’s early but man I’m much happier with the cool down.

Finally headed to cool country for a short break. Absolutely nailed it, temperature wise. It's been raining up here for 2 weeks. Water coming out of the ground everywhere. Hiked to a small waterfall today, middle of nowhere. Beautiful country.

Driver error or did something help?
First one was equipment failure. Bracket that holds the hydraulic cylinder to the 5th wheel plate broke and the pin fell out. Didn't even have it raised half way.
Second one was all the way up. Some product stuck in the nose of the trailer and the driver didn't realize it. When he pulled ahead it just fell over.

Surprised with how cheap they are now maybe putting a backup camera or similar in there would help.

Things happen though.

Our farm dog chased her last car today. She's been run over a few times but this time she didn't come out so well. I wasn't real attached to her because I knew this day was coming. Still sucks tho.

Dang that looks sweet Sam!

Built a drive line for the employee.
Had to go from a GM 3/4 ton transfer case down to a Mitsu Montero front diff. Used a 2-1/4" od x 1-3/4 id tube to make it work, and it was to big for the lathe. The chevy stub was 1.95" and the small yoke was 1.8".

A machinist I'm not, but made it work in the mill.

Had sign up night for the cub pack last night. I brought in a few older boy scouts to help out. Not a huge turn out but looks like we will have a few new cubs this year. Our new den mother is did a fantastic job promoting but the last one screwed the pooch so bad it's been hard to recover.

I hear you JR. Been using the leaf blower to dust the cars so the morning dew doesn't get the ash wet on the paint. nothing like a little lye to spruce up a clearcoat.

We were blessed with some rain and cool weather.
Our fires are back at least under control and the ash has stopped raining down.

yes, lye + rain = big mess on paint.

0-50 air quality is normal. beijing avergages 38.6 which is considered polluted. we're at 139 today and hit 367 two weeks ago. couldn't see a half mile down the road. betting that's what Tahoe is like right now.

In the height of our smoke this year we were down to about 500 yards, was bad.
Light haze now so 1000% percent better.

Its nice here with just a tad of haze. Guess Tahoe basin is just socked in, events canceled and such.

I'm not a fan of the eerie orange when it gets that thick.

you mean the "blood-red end of the world looking sunset stuff"? no, me neither.
Yeah…that’s exactly the one.
Scary stuff them days.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.
