Dropped my trailer at the wood lot to be filled up with firewood for a trip to a friends 12000 acre hunting lease this Thursday. Played illegal alien and mowed my yard. The school messed my oldest daughters schedule up and I had to threaten to go show up in person, to which the coordinator capitulated. Then opened a ups package to find my new all black mud flaps for the dually.

I had a 1995 Impala SS tuned, cammed, intake, exhaust. Deceptively fast. However no car ever got people out of the left lane like the white crown Vic I had while in AR. Hwy patrol used white Vic's and people couldn't get out of my way fast enough.

Dave, that will be a battle.  It's tough to keep them under wraps but mine know it's one piece or they don't swim.

Tate very cool. We have friends who are chasing that dream hard and have separated the family with the mom and daughter in LA and dad and son in Houston. They've been at it for 3 years and nothing big has popped. I think they are wrong but I keep my mouth shut as long as they don't ask.

Dave the real trick is getting the carbon and fouling out of the bolt carrier( there is a scraper tool you can buy) and the lug recesses in the barrel extension. Other than that, basic cleaning. Lube is subjective. Hard to over lube but lube attracts dust and dirt. I favor CLP for my AR lube. The bolt and carrier need the most love.  Also get in the habit of closing the dust cover after each evolution.

Drove the oldest to her first day in 7th grade and then walked the younger to her first day in 5th grade.  Time flies.  7th grade is where all the drama starts. Drugs, bad influence friends etc.  I need to up my parenting game this year.

Shawn, good to know.  I've always been told to water jet AR500 and the like for that reason.

Don,  Good time to know the difference between cover and concealment! ROFL.  Once we started shortening the barrel on these ARs , the lethality at range dropped like a rock. In and out like an ice pick instead of tumbling and fragmenting.

hmm , my only concern is using heat to cut them.  It weakens the properties in the area that carried the heat.

Canning & Food Storage / Pickled whole peppers
« on: August 21, 2016, 08:43:08 PM »
About the only thing still producing in this god awful heat are my peppers.

Harvested a ton of jalapeño and habaneros

Wash jars , bake in oven at 250 for 15 minutes to sterilize. Place lids in shallow pan of water and simmer. Add water to canning pot and get it boiling. Make sure you have canning rack and do not set jars directly on bottoms of pan.

Wash peppers, stab with small paring knife 3-4 times to allow brine to penetrate.

Add to bottom of jar:  1 tsp pickling salt (table salt has iodine and will darken contents), 1 tsp coriander seed, 1 tsp black peppercorns, 2 bay leaves , 2 whole cloves of garlic.

In a separate pan bring vinegar mixture to near boil - do not boil. 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. (I use a blend of cider and white vinegar)

Pack peppers in jars, I used quart wide mouth. Most recipes are for pints so the water bath time is shorter for pints.

Pour hot liquid over peppers leaving 1/2 inch headspace. I filled each and pressed peppers down and added more to get as much in as possible since peppers will soak brine.

Wipe jar rims, add lid from simmering water and place ring on just finger snug.

Using a lifter place jars in water bath with 2 inches covering lids.  When water returns to boil start your timer. 25 minutes. Remove and place on towel in counter.  Lids should pop when cooling. Press on them after a few hours to make sure they sealed. They should be concave and no give to them when pressed. Write the date on the lid and store.

Well started blasting a cast iron skillet and the door might as well not be on it. Dust is puffing out. Door is bowed and seal is not tight. And for that matter the little light they have with it is worthless. Time for upgrades.

Some leds and new gasket are next as well as a second air line teed to the first so I can have a air nozzle to blow parts off and blow dust off the glass befor opening the door.

In my uneducated opinion at the moment the round is fired is all that matters. Repeatability is the operative word. If the chamber is exact and the bolt face and lugs are exactly perpendicular to within .001, and your anmo is repeatable ( little variation between rounds) then the limitations of accuracy are the nut behind the gun. Which is why I advise the trigger which means you create less jerking and any movements are repeatable.

As long as the upper itself is machined true , thread for barrel nut etc, most of the rest is cosmetic.

As for ammo, most ARs won't be accurate enough to warrant extreme accuracy hand loads. FGMM 175 is the correct round to buy.

SOooooo, went to the HD & found an uber cool double pole breaker that that has a single 20 amp 120 on one side. The middle is a double pole 30 amp 220 followed up by another single 20 amp on that side so essentially 3 breakers in one. How cool, made things so simple......

what brand?  that sounds cool

Up 05:00. Coffee. Unload oven for powder coating, change hitch on the bus. Take utility trailer full of junk to landfill. Stop by harbor freight and pick up abrasive blast cabinet and misc tools. Going to reorganize the shop and try to assemble the blast cabinet and get the oven working.

True MRSA is a beast Dave. If you or your family are around him much use sterile practices if you can. You can bring it to your home on clothes or hands and it will lay in wait for you to have a small cut or some other means of gaining access. Good news is that they've gotten better at treating it. If you have a bench and rest , the best way to get on paper is to remove the upper , bcg and charging handle. Brace the upper in the bench rest, sand bags, etc so that you are able to look through the barrel and see the middle of the target. Then sight down the sights and see where your sights alighn. Without moving the upper, adjust the optic to the center of the target. Recheck and adjust a few times until you are able to sight through the barrel and see that the optic is aligned to the same spot. That'll get you on paper and allow you to dial in. All your sight adjustments when zeroing should be done from a bench or prone for accuracy.

I like the 50 yard zero.  You'll be about 1inch high at 100, 1.5 inch high at 150 and then on target at 200.  Within minute of scumbag out to 300

Good news, Matt

Shawn, I would encourage your step dad to consider a trip to MD Anderson.  I deal with the healthcare delivery system daily from a fact based statistical analysis perspective and CTCA preys on people by sometimes giving them false hope and their capabilities are not best in class.

In any event, prayers for you and your family for the best outcome.
