Concur ^^^

12 valves will figure out a way to wiggle loose a single nut that held tension on some bit of something that is way buried in the dash/chassis/cavity somewhere to create a "Space amplified" buxx that will require regular visits with a psychiatrist to cope with.

It's a steam engine! One with technology from the druids of stonehenge vintage.

When it’s all done inside, I think it’ll be a reasonbly “quiet” ride. Comfortable is what we’re going for and I believe we will achieve that.

Not sure what to compare it to, maybe a dodge 6.7 or better. I guess I need to go ride in some other diesels. I’ll get y’all a decibel reading when doors and windows are on.

It will be getting fancified on the interior one of these next few months, headliner, carpet and such. So we’re thinking that will help as well.

I hear the new rams have double pane glass and that really helps with the noise ;-)

Negative ghost rider the 12v really isn’t known for its quiet.  :cheesy:

The VE equipped 12V are not too bad and I had my RC to down around 75-80db at 75mph, I was mostly dealing with road/wind noise from the wonderfully fitted doors and other Dodge Design issues.  I had a LOT of sound deading but will do things much differently now.  NONE of these early trucks had very little in the way of sound deader

The P-Pump 12V valves are WAY MORE noise to deal with almost to the point of hearing damage with out ear plugs or noise canceling headsets.  I dont know if I would run a P-Pump in a first gen Dodge if I was going to drive it a lot or spend a lot of time on the freeway.

Layers 2 & 3 to aid in vibration, resonance, and road noise blockage.

Then after a couple days of looking and deliberating, wife and I guy the dash layout figured and gauges on their way!

And we had a really cool visitor! Yea, He’s venomous and most likely somewhere still on our property but gone enough to not bother anyone!

Installed some parts :)

So I started the day with pulling the alternator thermostat and water pump.

Thermostat and water pump were simple enough.

Old and busted...

Cleaned up this mess best I could

Then reinstalled the new, it’s a five bolt process because you need to pull the alternator.

So the alternator is normally an externally regulated type. The internetiverse showed that there is a way to make this a internally regulated one wire type. So I attempted that...

First put the thing on your work bench..

Pull the rear dust cover by removing the four nuts, 3 small and the one for battery connect.

This is the regulator from transpo.

Install the positive and ground cables under the cover.

Route green and orange cables through a gap on the edge of the cover and re install dust cover.

Then bench test it if possible.

Which I did at napa several times with and without regulator and found alternator was toast and only producing 8-9 bolts some times then around 3 another time.

Purchased new unit and installed regulator again. Installed on truck and tested with no voltage output.... so not sure if I did something wrong or if the alternator needs an exciter wire or something else. Or if I ruined another alternator let me know if you have any ideas.

Then I crawled underneath, pulled trans pan and dip stick tube and replaced both.

The tube is made by Lokar and I am VERY happy with it’s a locking type. There is a “pan but” that holds the bottom of the tube in the transmission. Then the dip stick has a locking mechanism on the top, same as the actual tube to the stub shaft I’ll call it.

You can see all the pieces here.

Nice machined filter spacer.

You can see the pan nut in the corner. Which secured the bottom section of tube into the transmission.

Here you can see the tube connected to the bottom section in the trans.

The top will be mounted to the firewall.  It
Seems like a very well thought out dipstick tube combo.

Looks good Turner..liking the dipstick,  but on the gauges, wouldn't it be easier to toss the cluster-@#$% in that trash can? (See what I did there)

Ok, got the floor and firewall officially done for what I will be doing for sound improvement/noise reduction.  The doors will be addressed when they are installed.

And we got the dash installed, which will be permanentized tomorrow.

On all of the edges of the dash I installed butyl rope so there is no metal on metal contact, in hopes to improve sound quality and noise reduction.

This is the rope I used, it’s a product from a sound shop in Tucson called second skin. They’re on the webz as well. Amazon has the best prices for this particular product.

You can see the black line across the window sill, that is the butyl rope installed. Which I then covered with the dash!

Tomorrow is a big day, as some of the final pieces are supposed to show up. The last item that will need to be purchased is a rear window of some kind. Which I am waiting to hear from LMC on, as they offer a piece of glass that is supposed to work from 72-93.

I called and talked to them about this as I have in my position a 74 and a 92 rear window, and they are significantly different. But I need the cab water proof so I’m looking for glass.

Last of the big pieces we need to get this thing hwy worthy.

Truck is scheduled for rear glass and tint on July 31 in Tucson...

That means we have to have it highway capable by 0800 on July 31.

We’ve got a good friend coming out on Monday to help us finish up the loose ends.

We’ve spent this week thinning, sorting, and packing for our upcoming move.

Slow, but a little more progress. We spent this week in heavy household thinning operations, made great progress there!

AC is bolted in and the bulkhead fittings have been loosely installed. We need a couple more line ends to finish up the heat and AC plumbing.

After

Roughtimation of what it will look like.

Made some significant progress today. Truck is probably about 60% wired. AC/heat is plumbed. Had some of it done yesterday, it turned over under key for the first time since I removed the engine.

I could not have gotten to where it is without the help that came in on Tuesday. Got a few more days before he has to go home.

It’s like the accordion style soft duct with a spring inside. And black. With your knowledge and tools, you could probably fab up some smooth pipe type.

So, many thanks to one of our own here, swbhobie16, he came out for a week to help me get this truck on the road. And boy did he ever help!!!! We went from a truck that I started by touching a cable to the positive terminal to a keyed ignition with gauges lights ac plumbed heat working, just overall much farther than i could have accomplished by myself in a week..

So from my family and I, we appreciate your help it couldn’t have come at a better time. If anyone needs consulting, you could probably get him to travel.

So today was the first day since I bought the 74 in 2015 that I put fuel of any kind in it....

And what the back of our truck currently looks like.

Thanks to all for the help you have provided. More updates to follow in coming days.
