Congrats Longball, honorary or not, that's a good day. I'm expecting to deliver my new bundle of joy in the next few days. All depends on when momma and the baby decide is time.
Thanks Dave. None of us wanted to deliver a baby, especially at 0400, but it was an awesome thing to experience.

I don't know if you've used wood heat before but as far as I'm concerned no other heat else feels as good.

Wasn't there a guy on here with a bunch of Cummins training and certs? How close is he to KY? We need to get this figured out so we can get back to the sagging gate.

I've never seen a 16 footer that didn't sag. The gate might not give, but something does and they end up on the ground.

I don't know Bear. Looks like I can see some bubbling next to a few of those rust spots. That's what the spots on mine look like after 6 years of Missouri salt.

I definitely wouldn't count out a long bed. They're just really rare in these parts.

Continued the search for a 4 door truck for our expanding family. Almost pulled the trigger on a half ton GMC with the 5.3 but am really struggling with the thought of not having a HD truck available to me. Yesterday I had 1,800lbs of hardwood flooring in the back of my LB7. I couldn't have done that in a 1500.

I sold my LMM February and got into a F150.  I am currently looking for a 2500 with a 6.0.  Drove one Monday and have 3 of them I plan to check out tonight.  Mostly I don't like the Ford but there have been a few occasions now where a 2500 would have been nice.  I test drove a 2015 1500 Silverado last night also.  If none of these 2500 work out I will probably start looking at a 2014+.  I need the crew cab but also want the 6.5' bed.  Found out last night that GM has stop sale on the 2014s.  They were all pulled off the lots.  Should be back out in a few weeks I was told.
I'm the same way on the 6.5' bed. By the time I add a toolbox there's not much space left in a 5.5' bed.

Hope that wasn't your thigh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,!! The 5.3 is solid and gets good mileage, but 4 doors are great. If you find a 8.1 go for it. About the same mileage as the 6.0 but way more power. Of course, there is always a trailer, best of both worlds.

Nice job TRN, I need to badly (land)

Kids and wife are at a bible camp until Sat, I went to Reno. Cabelas, Scheels, Summit Racing, 4WheelParts and played a few 1 arms (broke even)

Bought a new Viper for the 300aac Ruger, Kayak for the kids, and some 22. First time in years someone wasn't calling every 15min to see where I am, was great! Lasted until the trip home, then got a call. But I'm good until Sat as stated.

Mom goes in for another procedure in the AM. Cleaning the arteries they couldn't get done the first time.

If shes OK, going fishing Friday all alone,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Not my thigh thankfully. If it was I probably would've had pictures. I'll keep my eye open for an 8.1. What I'd like is a low mileage LML with all the luxury options. What I'm willing to pay for however is an average mileage LLY/LBZ with cloth. I have a trailer but was 30 minutes from home when my wife asked me to drive down there.

Changing the fluid and internal filter today. The fluid is still a nice red and no junk in the pan. The transfer case fluid on the other hand was pretty dirty and I could see some silver floating around. Its probably orignal fluid. Front and rear diffs are next once I get this back together.

2 trips to Napa and still don't have the right filter. This one the white one is just a hair too long. I can't get the pan back on. So I called the store and they are checking to see if the make another one.

If you don't have a lift in your shop and you have the means to get one I would suggest you do so. It makes these so much eaiser. I just wanted to put in a pit I'm so glad no one listened to me. I am grateful to work at a place that lets me work on my own stuff.

Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
Jon,
The white filter is for the deep pans. Unless the pan has been changed you'll need the black internal filter. I believe you can see the Allison part number in the second picture.

Let's play a game called "Stolen or Naw".
Facts: Homicide detective witnesses wreck. Says car was traveling approximately 80mph in a 40mph zone. Before detective can get turned around and position his car to block traffic, the red car is on fire and the driver is beatin' feet to an alternate AO. So, stolen or naw?

Bonus question: will the girlfriend roll on her man cause he left her to fend for herself in a burning car? (She got out and is ok)

Unfortunately I was using photobucket to store pictures. That's what I get for dragging my feet on mass storage and counting on someone else instead of being self sufficient. Hopefully they change their policy and at least let people save their own pictures. Gosh I hate saying that. Hoping someone else lets me use my own property....

Sorry to hear about the tough luck JR.

Unless something changes it sounds like I have the Ram Rebel sold to a gentleman in Mississippi. He asked if I could haul it to him (160 miles). I still have dads 16' flatbed I could use but I'm a little uneasy about hauling a 6k lb truck without dedicated tie downs points. It's also 800lbs over the weight rating for a uhaul car hauler. What's y'all's thoughts on using about 4-5 ratchet straps to tie it to the frame of this 16 footer (with floor in it)?

Overhead storage is dangerous in the event of a fire in the building. The obvious is falling debris but it can/will lead to premature roof failure. When the roof goes, the walls are right behind it.

Moved 3 yards of free mulch.....well if you gotta move it twice, is it really free?  Neighbor ordered 10 yards of it!  Not sure what he was thinking, as I've got as much space to mulch as he has, and I had too much last year with 4 yards!  Drove around the block to his place, loaded the back half of my truck bed with a cap on, (remember I've got it set-up for dogs) loaded up the mulch, returned home and off loaded it into the wheel barrel, spread it in the beds, repeat the process 21+ times.  Well only repeated the truck loading part 3 times!

So basically, my yard is fortified against Combat Max attack....Squared D for that matter too, but it was fortified against that before I mulched the beds!
I am pretty sure sunshine keeps the Square D away,

Technically this started yesterday. The first arriving engine company got the main portion knocked down quick but the attic space smoldered for a long time. There were some suspicious things about this one that had the investigators asking lots of questions.

I did get to start painting (John Deere Blitz Black) but didn't take any pictures. That was my first time painting with a gun but it was easier that I'd imagined once I got the regulator set.

Keep in mind that neither I, nor dad, have any expectations of this finish being aesthetically perfect. Or even good for that matter. The end goal is to improve (even if only slightly) something I borrowed by doing something dad wouldn't do himself. Anyway, I'll get back to it in a few weeks and will update then.

I didn't quite get finished with dad's trailer before I had to leave it with him. Pop up showers ruined paint day. I'll finish it up next month when we go back to visit again. I quite using the Ospho product the first day. After 24hrs drying it turned white and required being hit with the wire brush again before paint. That seems like a lot of unnecessary work.
Being on a time crunch, and not able to order anything, I bought a few rattle cans of Rustoleum rust reformer. I liked the finish I got with it but soon figured out I couldn't rattle can the whole thing in a timely manner.
Luckily for me Rustoleum makes the same product in a brush on. It took 3 bottles and 1 rattle can to cover the whole trailer front to back and top to bottom. Totaled about $22 for the rust treatment.

The brush on Rustoleum goes on white but doesn't turn black like the other products I've seen. Here is is next to the same product from a rattle can.

I just found this section and see that it is overdue for an update.

10pt from two years ago.

On the last day of deer season that same year this unfortunate guy came trotting past my stand.

Weight on the hoof was 89lbs.

We process our own game so we went right to work. Gotta wear gloves until the innards are out (at a minimum) but I wear them through the whole process. I almost always have some kind of open wounds on my hands and there's a lot of nasty stuff that can infect your bloodstream. Especially with hogs.

If a hog has a disease there's a good chance it'll be in their stomach, lungs, or intestines. If you're processing your own game be careful here.

Processing game is a family affair around here. That is my father in law with me in those pictures. Once the animals are hung and we start stripping off meat we hand it to my wife and mother in law. They sort, label, and get it ready to age in the fridge. Once the aging is complete, we all gather around a grinder in the kitchen and make a night of it.

Sully was a great movie

Love this one.....

The last thing every pilot does before leaving the aircraft after making a gear up landing is to put the gear selection lever in the 'down' position
I've been told a similar story several times involving our department. Long story short a fire truck rolled down a hill and into a pond. When the chief arrived to investigate he was surprised to find that the air brakes were set. Strangest part of the whole thing though was that no one (including the driver himself) knew how his boots got filled with water. Complete mystery.

What do you guys think?

Little went on here today other than being back to usual after another week of hazmat class. This one focused on monitoring and sample collection during CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive) events. It was a good class with very knowledgeable cadre who had a ton of field experience. Class was held at the COBRA facility in Anniston Alabama. Although I didn't get to on this trip, it's the only place in the country where hazmat techs can work with live agents such as anthrax, ricin, and vx.

These pics are from training but not of the COBRA facility. Anything other than the clothes on your back are forbidden in there.

Finally tracked down the problem with my Polaris Ranger (actually a guy named jungleman did). It turned out that my fuel pump was shot. Jungleman suggested I give these guys a try instead of spending $500+ at a Polaris dealship.

After I submitted my order for their complete kit ($80) I got a phone call where an apologetic gentleman explained that they were out of regulators and said he would send it out as soon as possible. He expected it to be 1-2 weeks. Since he said 1-2 I expected 3-4 weeks and just told him to hold the whole order until the regulator arrived so they wouldn't be wasting money with two shipments. To my surprise, and in less time than he quoted me, I received the complete kit. There were handwritten instructions on my paperwork explaining that this kit needed to be shipped asap when the regulator arrived. The more personal phone call, in leu of an email, and handwritten instructions make me feel they were interested in taking care of their customers, instead of just getting my money and moving on to the next guy while I sat on the back burner.

If you're gonna be on cops, might as well hit as many stereotypes as possible.
So my father in law is a very interesting man, knowledgeable and adventurous, decided to go for a evening trail ride in the canyons.  Just finds a road and goes so to speak, little early 90's keep. No off road add ons or anything.

He took a small road up that mt side to see what was at the end and as he traveled up the trail he ran into one of the ruts had some  snow run off trickling down it and he had no way to continue further.  So he started backing down the hill and slipped the back tire off the edge and the keep went down hill from there.

We used a come-a-long and another style that I am not familiar with but between them we manually pulled the front of the jeep around, pulled it up the hill, we did have a young man happen across the mess and jump in to help, his 4Runner was small enough to get up the trail where the Dmax wouldn't even fit in the trees. We used him to keep tension with a snatch block on the keep as we retied off and adjusted the come alongs

Don, here's an idea you might want to consider.

More often than not these fuel tanks get stuck beside a building or structure. Structures can burn, lighting etc. on my grand dad's farm we mounted our fuel tank to a wooden skid. The idea being in event of fire to the adjacent structure we could hook onto it with vehicle & get it away and save the fuel. Knowing the premise of this location I think it would be a good idea. We built ours from heavy beam and both ends were cut at an angle so we could pull in either direction.
That would probably work, but I just plan to hard mount it down near the woodline. It will be some distance from structures. Afterward I'll cut the trees from around it and slice them up for barn wood.
That sounds like a good plan. Although having it on skids is better than most people's plan, it's not perfect. For example, what if a fire starts on the building wall immediately adjacent to the tank? What about a brush fire encroaching on the building from the tank side? By the time someone realizes what's happening and gets there with a vehicle it may be too hot to connect to the skid, or the brush fire may have cut off access to the skid. In that case (especially in a rural area), you, the building, and everything in the building are screwed. Not to mention the dangers to first responders trying to prevent a BLEVE. If I'm not understanding the situation feel free to disregard.

I got to spend a few minutes on the trailer today. Enough to figure out my plan has changed. I don't think I have enough rust for the chemical to work like it's supposed to. I thought Ospho would work like the 3x chemistry or rust guy product but it does not. At least not the way I am using it. The coating as applied here is not as thick.

It doesn't look bad in this picture but the lighting is a little deceiving.

I've used the Skyco when I was working for a lighting co. they had steel cornered wood crates for shipping $80k 5 axis motorized spotlights. we welded up all the banding all at one time and by the time it came to prep and paint there was rust abound. we wire wheeled everything and treated it with that as we went. still has several crates from 5-7 years ago w/ no rust under the rattle can krylon black we finally painted them with.

Knew about your day job, just curious about the randomness of the local accident. I don't miss wire wheel shrapnel from the shoddy pieces the owner bought. seemed I'd pull em from everywhere in the shower. Buy good quality on those my man.
What would be considered a good quality wheel? This process is new to me.

I've never faced your exact situation but I have dealt with customer service at XDP before. They were very helpful.

Thank for the tips gentleman. I've never used this product but it's the only thing I could source locally. $26/gallon from Sherwin Williams.

I started by removing the floor.

When I got the floor off it was time for the pressure washer. Got this one on sale a few years ago at Costco and have been quite pleased with it.
Making a small mess.

Got interrupted for a few minutes by a wreck just up the road a ways. Young fella rear ended an undercover police officer. Thankfully everyone is ok.

That'll need some attention.

Speeding up the drying process.
