I while back I borrowed (which I hate doing) one of dad's trailers to bring my antique John Deere home. Dad always said that if you borrow something it should be returned in better shape that when it left so... I'll try to stick to that.

I don't know how long dad has owned this trailer. Probably 25 years or so.

My plan is to get everything clean, hit it with a wire wheel, then coat it with rust converter. If I have the opportunity before the trip back home I may run him some new lights. If not, maybe he and I can knock that out while I'm there. I'm not an expert at anything other than causing trouble so all suggestions will be graciously considered.

I think if we ever did bring on Kapernicus he'd just wind up being the center of the bench and center of controversy and center of his own universe.
I wish that guy would just take his fortune and go to a country where he isn't so oppressed.

Started giving one of dad's trailers a down and dirty rust treatment but got interrupted by a wreck close to the house.

I usually do well at staying away from the camera crews but this guy got me. He's good.

I started using the XDP stuff about 50k mi ago because it was inexpensive but felt like it made an improvement. I ran out about a month ago and bought some Diesel Kleen to use in the meantime. It may be all in my head but I don't like it as well.

From the diesel people, what trans stuff do you put in the tank for your injectors?

First day back at work after an eye problem.  Still hurting and suffering from a headache because of it.  However, I just had my spirits lifted.  Found this on line and plan to order as soon as they are back in stock..

Rescue Randy fooled around and got himself into a sketchy spot about half way up this stack so three of us had to help him down. Didn't get a chance to take pictures of the rigging but it consisted of a class 3 harness, Reeve Sleeve, high point anchor, and safety line using prusiks. Lowered him with a MPD. A little hot, but good training and a lot of fun.

Pretty tight area to work in.

The hole we lowered him through. Hard to make out but those guys are tied off to their own safety.

Looking up.

Being in the county I'm not required to run grey water through the septic and would like to keep them separated if possible. I'm going to give a plumber buddy a shot at it before I start renting digging equipment. I switched gears after that and started working on the Polaris again. Tested a bunch of wires for conductivity and made no progress. Still chasing the problem where it floods one cylinder.

I guess I left that part out. An acquaintance came out with a snake and didn't have any luck. My neighbor, who's house was built around the same time as mine said his line was full of calcium. Said it was set up like concrete. I am working on the assumption that I am facing a similar situation.

In the processes of trying to locate a clogged washing machine drain. All I know is that this drain does not run into the septic tank. It has its own line on a different side of the house, into what I'm assuming is a dry well. So I am wondering, should I cut the line here at the elbow and keep going with the shovel or go rent a mini-ex and replace the whole thing? I have no idea how long or where the line goes from this point. I'm leaning towards the mini.

I'll chime in... '06 109xxx miles
edit...
Officially 240648.
Original guess was off by more than a bit...
'13... 28k and some change (miles)
This means I'm in second place right?

I don't miss the days of "taking universal precautions" and then being told it was none of your business what they have.

Nice mower.
The laws surrounding patient confidentiality, in relation to first responder exposures, are ridiculous. Lucky for me it happened in the hospital this time, and they called our infection control officer within 2 hours and gave me the "all clear". The good news is that there is something I can learned from it. That is to never take your eyes off of a combative patient, for anything.

On a lighter note (because she wasn't hurt bad), as I was walking out the door yesterday I heard one of our stations get dispatched to a medical call because a woman was attacked by a kangaroo. That's not something you hear every day in Alabama.

Mental download.  You guys ready?

Selling my home that we have been in for four years, moving back in with my mother, new to my kids and wife a whole new town.

The housing market here in Utah has taken a massive spike and I am not missing this wave to sell my home in a neighborhoot that I am so opposite of. HOA, six feet in between homes, truck on the street, no room for my boys to live and play and grow.   So we made a split second call to grandma and asked if we could move in for a unknown time to a yearish.

Gotta ask you guys for prayers for guidance and mental strength for me and the wife and all other parties involved.

Need to paint some walls, patch some sod from the dog, sell some shop stuff so I don't have to store it.
Need to purchase a trailer to store my home stuff inside while we live at grandmas house, looking at a 8.5x24 trailer with a side door and a fold down ramp.  Something we can keep after this insanity and use for atvs and motorcycles for me and the boys

Essentially that post about building a new home will come to light, after saving a house payment for a year, clearing a good portion of profit on the home sale we are looking at building our last home with a mother in law apartment for grandma  and every other thought that was put into building our home minus the large shop I would love to have but we will make do

Call came in as a wreck with entrapment. En route it was changed to a wreck with ejection. Turned out to be both. Patient was draped over the driver's door, upper body hanging with head and arms toward the ground. Legs were trapped under the steering column so he was stuck, unconscious, with head injuries.

Editing to add: Good news is that in spite of all that, and the arterial bleed coming from his arm, he was alive and well when we left the hospital. Bad news is that during the fight he busted my lip and stuck his fingers in my mouth. Here we go with the 6 months of blood monitoring again.

How hard is it to change a belt?

Do I really need 68 hp?

Do I need power steering?

Is diesel a worthwhile consideration ?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1. Belts are a breeze on the Polaris I have.
2. I've never wished I had less power.
3. It's nice but as far as I'm concerned it's not a necessity.
4. We have a diesel Kubota utv at my fire station. We use it for lost hikers and special events. I do not think it would fit the criteria you've specified.

Mahindra has a diesel machine I would like to drive but haven't had the opportunity yet.

Returned from an injured hiker call around 2230. We got dispatched at 1800 for a lady who fell and suffered a head injury roughly 2 miles from the closest trailhead. Going in wasn't bad but carrying her out in a stokes basket put the dogs to work. We elected to take her out a ravine since we had enough people up top to man a 3:1, and enough people below to tend the basket on the 3-5ft step ups that littered our path. Rougher terrain but a much shorter route. Looking back at the map I sort of feel like a sissy. Oh well, she was stable when we got to the ambulance so that's the important part.

...We tend to think of praising the Lord when big things happen, but He's in charge of all things and I'm grateful the batteries died in the dirveway on a weekend.
I'll second that. Within the last year I have blown a brake line while sitting in my driveway and the alternator went out on my LB7 1/4 mile from my in laws' house.

Someone called out sick this morning at our technical rescue station so I had to come over and fill in. This part of town and I do not get along well together.

That hole in the bay door is from a bullet that came into the station a few months ago. Fun times in the hood!

I'd hazard a guess that the occupant wanted to smoke something in their dorm room without getting caught. Smoke detectors in those types of buildings are hard wired with a battery backup. They put it back in the wall but didn't reconnect the wires so it was sending a fault code to the monitoring station.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don't doubt the disconnect for that reason. I just don't get why it is just not a maintenance issue vs a 911 response?
That is a good question. If I had to answer I'd say it is due to the number of occupants in the building. Hospitals and malls work that way. Anything at all goes wonky with the alarm and they dispatch a truck to check it out. Once we've verified there's not fire we hope back on the truck and leave.

Went to Reno yesterday, needed a ME day. Was great. Ate great, wasn't rushed, scored some more 22lr (lots up there). Got just over 20mpg.

How bout a little update since I moved to a busier station on the "norf" end or town. My first shift there we ran two calls and slept all night, so that seemed about normal. The second shift we ran 10 calls with four coming at night. The ones I remember are:
1. Full arrest (We got a pulse back twice but as we handed him off to the hospital we lost it again).
2. Broken hip
3. Disconnected smoke detector at a college dorm room
4. Throat cutting (ear to ear type job. Luckily the guy had a fat neck and should live).
5. Lost hiker (turned out to be a big misunderstanding)
6. Man having seizures
I've forgotten a couple but the most interesting call came from an apartment complex around midnight. I made contact with the residents (about 5 of them) and started trying to figure out who my patient was. Finally figured out who I was there to see and he states that he feels kinda funny but thinks he is fine. That's when the family chimed in with why they called for him. Turns out my patient was an alcoholic, and although his family had offered him several drinks throughout he day he had refused all of them. Ergo, something must be wrong with him and he needs medical treatment..... So, after a brief moment to let that sink in, I explain that we cannot force him to go to the hospital against his wishes. That statement prompts his sister to emphatically, with wagging index finger of certainty, drop the medical bombshell we've all been waiting for. "Yeah, well he ain't throwd up all day neither!" Dear heaven above this job is a blast! Haha

Back on North American soil!
Thank god!

Been a whirlwind tour, glad it's over, and a long list of places to not return...
Been up 24 hrs now, stupid time changes...time to sleep.
That's a great feeling isn't it?

I survived a trip to gulf shores Alabama during spring break. I was there for a family member's 94th birthday party but had to be there last weekend non the less. It was just as awful as it sounds. Came back this week to find out I earned a spot at one of our "special operations" stations. It's a busy station that is also our main hazardous materials and WMD response station. It'll be a big change from where I was assigned out of rookie school. Also woke up this morning to a large rash on my back. Dr thinks it is a spider bite but sent me home with a packet explaining the symptoms of MRSA just in case. Not a huge deal except that I just finished our HIV/HEP protocols because of a blood exposure while performing CPR and the meds don't mix well together. Fun times here in the Deep South.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Your little man looks happy Dave.

I got to bring an overdose victim back to the land of the living today. The good feeling that brings is quickly squashed however by the realization that the 2 week old baby in the house is hers and she is passing whatever she took along to it (heroin cut with fentanyl is popular as of late). Like they all do, she denied taking anything but she's not the first one Narcan had made a liar out of.  Then I almost got my fool self and another firefighter killed. I will elaborate more on the details after some sleep but for now I will say that there can never be enough emphasis on doing the little things perfectly. Not just right, but perfect, every single time.

This firearm is my go to for rifles in my safe. I am in the process of.buying additional ARs for training he kids up and for daily shooting. So I would say it is primarily going to be for protection.

Thanks, I'm glad to answer any questions to clarify what I'm wanting.

Dave
Being a serious rifle I would stick with the Aimpont PRO, T1/H1, Trijicon MRO, Eotech or similar. There are some less expensive optics out there that may serve you well but they won't have near the sample size in hard use environments. One of the other rifles you've got in the works may make a good test bed for those but not your primary. Unless I am mistaken the advertised battery life of the PRO, T1 or H1, and MRO are around 50,000 hours. Being able to turn them on and leave them on is a big plus for me.

Here we go chasing electrical gremlins. The ranger developed a rough idle a few weeks ago, had very little power, and I could smell raw fuel at the exhaust. I was getting error code 51 which is the no 1 cylinder injector/injector circuit. When I couldn't find the problem I took it to a dealership who told me both of my injectors were bad. Thinking $550 was ridiculous I bought them myself for $166 and had them installed in less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately that didn't fix the issue. While inspecting my wiring I found one of the pins in the no 1 injector harness was pulled out of the connector. Pushed it back in and it ran like a top, for about 10 minutes. When the symptoms returned I replaced both spark plugs, rechecked the wiring, pulling the bundle apart and inspecting each one. I couldn't find anything in the injector wiring so I moved to the temp and baro pressure sensor, again, finding no problems but still getting code 51. While standing back and contemplating lighting it on fire, I saw that the throttle position sensor had some insulation on one of the wires that doesn't look right.
I don't know if this is the problem but it seems to me that a problem here would affect both cylinders. There's not much wire left to work with but I will try to repair it anyway. Even if I doesn't hold long term maybe I can get enough of a connection to see if that is the problem.

We started buying camping gear, planning an antelope hunt for this fall with our dads, and 13 days after buying a new truck we found out she was pregnant. To me, that is just proof that it is not our plan that matters. I should be able to get out of the new truck without much of a hit. We are blessed that we don't have to sell it but I would prefer to not have that obligation just in case something is wrong with the baby or my wife after delivery. We have also informed our dads that the hunt will have to be pushed back a year and of course they have no problem with that.

Took the kids Monster Jam. We surprised them. I can't believe we kept a secret so long. They loved it.

I bet that was fun. Speaking of good news, we finally made the trip to mom and dad's to reveal a secret we've been keeping since January.

While ashamed to say how long it's been since mine has been changed, I would, if I only knew. Somewhere between 91k miles and never. I can't believe I overlooked it for that long. I mentioned it to my dad and now he's set on changing his out next time I am home. The ps fluid in his 2002 has never been changed but it only has 56k miles on it.
