Finished signing for the land today and took the family there. They were actually much happier with it than I thought, so far so good.

Found 2-3 spots for building and the northwest corner has a even a better vie, but far out.

Looks like several spots may have some underground water with the lots of foilage

She actually liked it too.

All for double bladed box, hydro would be cool but is a good chunk.

I wish my box had at least a side tilt ram. That would make life so much easier. I think it would be easy to just add the cylinder(s) to a normal box. Might look into it now that I have rear hydros, but mine only has the one circuit.
Your's is set up with auxiliary in the back isn't it? One or more circuits?

Pretty sure it has a front aux, but the rear has the BH, so good there.

Pretty sure I need to get the 3 point arms, so a little extra for the rams and hoses may be called for.

What about width? I am thinking 72in, most look to be around 60.

Ken I added the hydro top link and plan to add the tilt link. I have 2 rear remotes so I’d have to add a third to get the rippers hydraulically adjustable. But I don’t use the rippers much

If you are looking for a box scraper google search Industrias America. They are a company out of Texas but the equipment is built in Mexico. Stuff sell like crazy around here. Its good for the small farmers and acreage owners. They seem well built. We do not have one as they are not big or heavy enough for our use, but will handle anything that kabota can drag. My neighbor is a dealer. I go help him unload the trucks when he gets a shipment in. I guess I never did ask what he gets for one.

Didn't know that.
So, pinky out when using the ripper option?
JR, the smaller one. It's easier when it's close to the same width as the tractor Imo.
Man, if you have to buy all the 3 point linkage, might as well get a couple rams... might be cheaper

Darn, all this talk about these fancy tractors and attachments. I grew up using an 8N Ford, plowing and disking, trying to use a back blade on the long driveway, mowing around the place, and putting up hay in the summer. Sure would have been nice to have had some of these new toys back then.
The property looks like a nice find JR, enjoy playing around ( working) making all the improvements to the place.

Doesn't sound too crazy, delivered to BFE.

Quads? like 4 wheeler quads for the boys?

Sounds like you're getting started faster than me. Man I'm chomping at the bit. Excited and nervous at the same time.

Opinion guys.

Looking at a,2002 Yamaha grizzly 660. Really good condition, 200hrs,winch aftermarket tires and wheels.

Asking 4500 which I think is high, made an offer and were a few hundred apart. I left it there.

Searching  shows newer ones going for 3 to 4.

You could buy a 2002 Silverado for that much money.

Pardon.   That is not reading the right year.  It’s 2019 now right?

Get a 2007 or newer with the efi 700 motor.
But what do you want a quad like that for?  Kids to play on?

For me to run around on. Not smooth land, 1/4x1/3 mile, mail is a mile away too.

I don't mind walking, have walked it a lot. But working on something, running from one end to another, etc.

EFI sounds good, was a little hard to start.

Don't need it now, just happen to be here and not much avail where I am.

^^^ Definitely EFI. I had Yamaha 600 Rhino and it was hard to start if you didn't run it often. Also had a 90 Yamaha and that was a pain as well. (And yes.. the 90 was for the kids.. but I did overload it on occasion, stress testing and all)

I think if I were to looking into 4x4 quads it would be along lines of can-am or the Polaris versions.   I liked the size and consistent power with out the clutch on the Polaris.  Easy for smaller folks to ride

If your looking for kids.  I am 100 for dirt bikes

Dirt bikes don’t roll down hills and smash you, they have less mass, lots of foot-hand-eye coordination skills to learn.  Plus they take up less space, easier to haul and usually can out run any quad of similar size.   Cost less also.

I wouldn’t ask my wife.    Been to the ER a min of four times I can remember off quads.   Never on a dirt bike

My wife cost me 38k in Er and life flight off a quad.   I’ll never allow one in my garage again.

Interesting point Dave, never thought about dirt bikes in such a manner.

I do know of several folks in my home town who have succumbed to a four wheeler roll. One of them was 20 or so years old.

The most dangerous part of quads are the weight, and loading the SOB into your pickup.    It happens every year.  Some kid rolls a quad and it kills them or injure for extended period

A bike you let go it falls over, you can’t climb a hill you let go it falls over.   If it does flip down a hill it’s still lots less weight to hit you.

I have spent the better part of the last 15 years riding a bike.   Never turned down a hill climb challenge and walked away from every failed attempt to try again.    Quads have no side to roll off of.   They have no sitting sideways on a steep slope.

If I can’t get my bike stood up i grab a front tire and yank it around till i can walk up to the high side and I climb on.    A Quad will roll all the way to the bottom.  Usually totaled out leaving you injured and stranded

Sorry for pour typing.   Thumb is bandaged

I would consider the Polaris Razor, I think they have the "pickup bed" model 4X4 very dependable and easy to operate, I have had Polaris products for may years other than my abuse I have not had issues.

I have a little CT70 for the kids to play with, you can stand up off that. (same thing my dad always said)

Broke more than 1 bone on a bike, I was a little crazier in my early years.

Maybe a side by side later, quad would fit well now. Can't be anymore dangerous than a snowmobile,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Do like the idea of EFI. Want it to run all the time.

So, here is a little idea of what I want and some overview. The area N/W (upper left) is much flatter than I first thought, but still a little valley.

You can see my truck and the family going back and some of the valley below. I was standing where the green dot is.

Yellow dots are the corners, white dot is my truck. White box is where I am thinking about building.

Yellow arrows point to neighbors and cannot be seen if I build in the white boxed area. White arrows point to the valley view from that spot.

So I can’t tell my eyes are getting ever worse.   Are you building on a hill or in a valley.    The picture shows detail but no shadows to tell what is a high spot and what is a low.

Yep, hard to tell. The area boxed dips behind the right where the blue line ends, in fact that is a nice little hill.

The green rep the high ground which continues around to the east to the far side in the first picture.

JR,
Could you drill a well close to the top of the hill, have a holding tank on the back side or unseen side of the hill, maybe even ideally a windmill or solar pump, then have water pressure to a lower home so water will flow when the power goes out? An old looking windmill goes unnoticed around here. This along with some rainwater collection would have you set for water. The rainwater collection will need a booster but the tank on the side of a hill will flow well without a pump. What is it, .433 psi per foot of water rise?
Anyways, nice find on the land.

Kids are already talking bike path and jumps. There really a good variety of usable land. Plus there are several paths out, but not normal roads.

My land stops just prior to that hill. But I was thinking in the same ball park. Solar power well with a 2500 gal tank. Like to support a small pond in the natural runoff (lined) giving a larger area for upgrading the  foliage.

Needs to be low ground, as blue represents water on military maps and water is generally found in the lowgrounds. You gave me a headache...

Found I should get a permit for grading (needed if over 50 cubic yards). I do have to move a lot of dirt!

May not be a bad thing as if submitted and approved by june 30th I get to use the 2012 codes vs the 2018 codes just adopted.

Think I will do a general permit up front and go from there. Fewer issues in the long run and get under the old rules.

That’s why I love TX. I don’t have to permit anything.

Speaking of... when are you moving to Lexington or Indy? :poke:
I declined that opportunity.  They wanted me in Indy and I just can go there right now.  Kids weren’t supportive neither was the wife I didn’t want that location enough to drag them there against their will.

Lived in Indiana for 37 years, you’re not missing anything. South of Indy is pretty but living in I Diana you always travel somewhere else for vacations etc.
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

I think the family would support FL or TN or AR. CA too but I can’t go there for too many reasons to list.  NC and SC may be on the list too.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Found this cool idea for non AC tractors;
