Good work and the extra land will always be nice. I would like to get another 40 below me and behind me (n/s). Budget is not there now but would be nice..

I remember doing the roof on my house/garage and having to tarp it every night as I was working full time. I got a wall up today!

Thanks guys,

I worked until 6:30 ish yesterday evening. Came in to the wife unit and asked if she wanted to take her evening walk, we used to do this in Colorado as well. She’s coupe’d up in an office all day and in meetings. Just something we’ve gotten in the habit of, did our fair amount of hikes last year too as it’s something we enjoy. After the walk which is a mile give or take with our dogs around a big loop. I stood in the living room looking out and decided I’d much rather be standing in this log cabin here versus that home in Colorado surrounded by other homes. We’re very blessed.

Plenty of ground available in my neighborhood……

I think it meets rainfall (or pretty close) and population density

As a bonus Ken will be about 40 mins away so we can always get together for coffee & H jokes at his expense!

Drones are great, the new DJI mini is under 8oz so no registration is needed. They are awesome for "looking" at things.

Machine shop received closed cell spray foam today. Ordered steel roofing yesterday for it. Plan is to sheet it inside with osb on rain days. Slowly finish it off.

Your prayers about a new home to enjoy and make your own have really been answered. What a beautiful place you guys have Shawn. This Summer you can sit outside at sunset and enjoy the view and all that has been made available to you. Take the time man, and enjoy all that has been made available to you.

Spray foam is the only way to fly.  Here in the south though you really have to have humidity control since its so air tight.

Looking good.

Started off the morning welding and building GLO parts. After that it was about 1pm and rain in the forecast. So I started by finishing the blocking on the existing erected walls. Then was able to frame and square this interior support wall. Even managed to get tools put away right before rain flew.

Plan is to set this wall tomorrow now after I install blocking on it every four feet. Does it need it, idk but can’t hurt with 16’ walls….

What’s wrong with this picture? ^^^^^^

Gunna have to demote the layout guy I suppose!

Much better, hard to find good help!

Worked on stuff mostly in the shade today as I’m a little crispy from yesterday. I bought a 12’ tall (3 section) scaffolding set on wheels that I need to get assembled now that I’m setting the big walls. I think I’ll tackle that over the weekend.

Swapped the dumb ball hitch out on dump trailer to pintle ring setup. There was almost a 1/4” of slop in the channel where the ring bolts in on front of dump. So I bought some 1/8” x 1 1/4 flat steel & made two spacers. Tightened it right up.

Doesn’t look tight but it is, that ring casting bows out in center from top to bottom between the two bolts holes that secure it.

Small used wood stove I picked up and had sand blasted. Painting it with bbq grill paint. The logo on it says GLO - FIRE so I think it’s a fitting piece for the new shop.

They do on the tall walls, I didn’t on the short walls, just because personal preference. Span and height wasn’t as much of a concern to me frankly.

This wall I set today was by far heaviest so far w/ all the osb on it. Lower section of boom didn’t budge, the upper section was bowing slightly. But it held like a champ. Couldn’t imagine setting walls w/o the boom and the added swivel hook is working great too.

Couple Birds Eye view pictures from scaffolding I purchased. Set two small sections of west wall today. Need to glue a beam together for this end above the doorway and set it next.

Set the beam above the large 12’ wide x 14’ tall shop door today. Framed up two narrow sections of wall & then framed up section that will get set in place above the big shop door. At that point called it a day.

Set the stub wall above the large garage door opening and added a double top plate. Then started framing the last of the opposite eastern wall. It has two more windows (total of 3) on the east end. Once that’s complete the south wall should be easy and quick with only one 10’ x 10’ door opening although it’s 48’ long total. Hoping to set eastern wall before the weekend.

Rain, more rain since Friday morning.

Friday, I hauled pit run base and installed a 40’ 6” culvert next to the road to start the U shaped driveway entrance / exit. I’ve hauled around 40 yards so far. It costs me $25 per 5 yards, so cheap imo. It’s going to take another 40 yards of base to fill in that low area next to the road I believe.

I’ve been working on moving a load of nice clean fill into the area kind of between cabin and machine shop. It was low & uneven, so been using wheel barrow to move that in at about ten loads a day. This back area will get seeded for grass and eventually two walls of fence in and L shape to enclose that back area in. It will give us a small private yard and place for little dogs to do business w/o fear of something carrying them off easily. Finished moving that mud this afternoon. Once it dries some I can rake it out. I need to bring in some more gravel next to sidewalk and house but will do it with the skid loader.

I hired a guy to put steel on the machine shop, just helped him finish here right before 10pm tonight. He stayed at it but was worn out, I wanted it finished so I could pay him and send him home. No pics it was dark.

Supposed to be clear tomorrow so hope to finish east wall on big shop and get it stood up. Fingers crossed.

Wife made homemade ice cream and cupcakes, need to keep burning 5000 calories a day with her around!

Only thing better than a steel roof up there is a raised seam steel roof, looks good.

Looks like the low spot will have some run off, maybe a pipe first?

Thanks guys, JR assuming you’re talking about the driveway? Once it’s filled in completely there will only be a low spot (ditch) next to road which is what culvert is for. Water should just run across drive and down into low area on west side or go thru culvert.

Cool you got it covered. Just looks low in the pic without really knowing the level.

Runoff is a huge issue. It rained, hailed with nice thunder lightning this saturday at the Ridge. Was really nice as nothing was enough to worry about. Weather service had alerts out too.
