Got a new toy today... A new to me X300. Been scanning craigslist for used after I priced new and didn't want to drop the coin on a new one, and didn't want to settle for one of the big box models that aren't built as well.
Saw this puppy post before heading into church and I was the first person to contact him. It's a 2010, was asking 2250, and it's worth every bit of that, especially with a bagger. Thing looks practically new, absolutely spotless, and only 150 hrs.
Think she needs a new battery, but it ran like a top and everything checked out great before I made the deal.
Super stoked!

Man you can tell we're turning into the domesticated sort when we get excited over a lawn mower!
I remember something of that model. I owned a 322 years ago. It was a great little mower for lawns and light duty stuff
Glad you're happy
Be careful when changing the fluids!
-
You know I envy you a bit. I went from push mower to 3.5 hours on a commercial 60" zero turn now back to push mower. I think the size of yard I really would like to have would fit that mower you just picked up perfectly. Some day.....
-
Yeah good tip. The k46 transaxle is sealed from what I know, and the crankcase has a nice little drain tube and petcock.
I think I was rewarded for resisting buying new... I was a heartbeat away from pulling the trigger on a new one, and decided against it yesterday. Deere's spring sale ends tomorrow...
Oh, and it has a cup holder. Yes sir!

Nice find.
-
Funny, I was just about to ask about the cup holder.
Nice mower Kyle. I run around on mine (not a JD)with the little trailer behind it at night dropping off firewood and what have you when I don't want to get the tractor out. Thinking of adding a 10 inch lightbar to the hood. The 1156 clear bulbs in it just don't throw enough light.

You read my mind... I am going to keep my eye out for a little trailer, preferably one that tilts, for running things around the yard... Wood pile, mulch, kiddos... That kind of stuff :)
That's one reason why I really wanted to end up with an X series is they're a little beefier for pulling around attachments

Home Depot and Lowes have them. I know that Fleet Farm has them, and I believe I saw them at Tractor Supply Co.

Thanks Bobby, I'll have a look

That is a nice mower at a pretty decent price. If it is the original belt on the mower yet you may want to be ready to replace it. You should be able to put twice that many hours on the rest of it without much issue though.
I'm curious what you were pricing out when you were looking at a new unit. Was it an old 2015 or the new 2016 models. The X3 and X5 tractors and decks have a lot of new stuff for this years model.
-
Yeah he gave me his maintenance log... belts have been replaced.
Yes, in 2016, the x350 replaced the x300. With the spring sale that ended today, I had a quote for 3500 otd for an x350 with the bagging unit. None of the Deere dealers around had any x300 2015 models left, except the rear bagger ones but I didn't want one of those.

The rear bagging units work really great if you want to bag all the time. They are designed especially for bagging wetter grass. Mostly they are sold in Europe where they have a wetter climate and then some in Washington state and northern Oregon. Dealers in the other states generally don't carry/ never sell them.
I would think you should still be pretty happy with your purchase though.
If the battery is still the OEM battery it is probably due to be replaced also.
-
Yeah, and the back half of our property i'm not going to bag, so it was pretty important to be able to switch easily.
I'm stoked so far! Love the machine.
I think battery is likely just old and needs replacing. I'll pick up a new one at Costco. He hasn't used the machine in awhile, started having a landscaper do all his stuff so he didn't need the mower anymore.
-
Nice little tractor/mower. Wish I had something big enough to use one, but I'm looking.
Lights and a gun mount and you are set.
They decide when you have kids, you just get to agree,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thank you!
I do have a couple mods in mind, all super complex... Like a steering wheel knob, and maybe a bumper lol. And maybe a wired override of the RIO switch...

Nice score. With some luck it will treat you well.
As for getting excited about mowers....just yesterday I was thinking I need to get my Exmark out of the shed, and do the annual spring wax/polish/fluids and such. With 3720 hours on mine it's getting due for paint.
As for pull behind carts... I'd advise you watch Craigslist for a an older Cub Cadet, Deere, Simplicity type cart. They are so much better built than modern ones and cheaper to boot.

X2 on the wheel knob!
When I owned tractors like that, I wore that knob out!
Probably the reason I could make that Chinook dance and speak French!
That's the evolutionary step in graduatin' to a zero turn!
You're evolvin' just fine!
-
I have the same/similar model from 2007. you'll love every second of NOT pushing or walking behind it.
-
I'm itchin to mow something! We don't even have a lawn yet lol
-
you will still have to trim though....which requires walking!!!!!!!!!!

I like edging... I have a McClane edger I use for long straight edges, and I freehand the rest with a Stihl string trimmer ;D

Congrats on the new toy!

Dang, I though I was going to win the "high hours" award, but I guess not. My 1987 430 is up around 2600 hours on the stock engine. Yanmar built a good 3 cyl diesel back then. Last year I replaced the trans axle main bearings and seals and repaired some frame cracks. This year it will be getting some more minor things repaired. But it still runs great. In the winter I remove the mower deck and the mini 3pt can haul my garbage can to the road!
As for the cart, we still have an old original JD one lying around. Too bad you are so far away.

That is a nice looking machine!
I think i've narrowed down to two cart contenders...
http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-750-lb-utility-cart-with-power-assisted/p-07130440000P?prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8
or
http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/cub-cadet-hauler-tow-behind-dump-cart
I definitely want something with turf tires, versus the narrower wheelbarrow style tires.
-
The wider tires will help keep it from sinking into your lawn. Although if your trailer is sinking in, you are probably in worse shape with the tractor getting stuck anyway.
The cub cadet trailer has some interesting features.
-
This ones a bit cheaper... might be the #1 contender at this point...

I have a john Deere model 15 trailer I purchased in 2003 that I still use today. I fill it with scrap steel! It has some dents, but is pulling along just fine!
-
Northern Tool has all their trailers on sale at the moment:

Not chrome, and no flapper..
Disapproved.

Tractor supply keeps emailing me an ad with a real nice looking lawn cart to pull behind your mower FYI.
Cub cadet, wide tires & a polymer tub with flip down sides etc.....
-
That's one of the ones I'm considering. Do you know what the promo price is?
Btw... That's just a section of 4" exhaust pipe I just set there as a gag. I didn't put a stack on my mower lol

States $50 off regular price $299 so $249.99
If you want the ad send me a pm with your email & I'll forward it from my trash folder.....

It's all good, I just made a little trip down to TS but they didn't have any. Appreciate it tho!

Couple salvage yard projects. Wanted to make a couple drags so I can flatten out all the dirt before I install the lawn. Didn't want to spend the money for a proper harrow, so just made a couple from scrap.
Got this chain link gate for 10 bucks, put a bridle on it, and some scrap lumber and some u-bolts as a rack for cinder blocks
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160313/08e9e954228695737e86ccda90b2f4bb.jpg)
Also got this for $10 bucks. Not sure what it is, but it'll make a heavier duty drag. It looks like basically a galvanized steel pallet. It's heavy, prob 50 lbs or more.
Going to drag them around with my dads Grizzly 660 to knock down high spots and loosen up the surface before putting more good top soil down
Not bad for 20 bucks worth of junk

I like the galvanized pallet, that should work well!

Sucker is heavy. I just moved it to out behind the house... It's every bit of 50 lbs

I used a 4x8 sheet of expanded sheet metal with railroad ties.
