Well, were in contract negotiations on selling our home. I think God willing that will be finalized in the AM tomorrow as we're close now.

Prior to putting Dad in a Nursing home we had a difference of opinion with the first builder we had choose for the next home. Long story short they took our money and couldn't communicate so in the end they decided to cancel the contract and not deal with me. What can I say, communications aren't that hard and if you don't have your act together I will be an over the top PIA until you submit or get your crap together. They submitted, which upset the wife at the time but per the norm it is in his hands and not ours.

After placing Dad in a home, Mom being admitted to the hospital while I was back & then the first build falling apart we kept researching new builds. During this process we ran across a home with a separate garage and entry into a MIL suite. It is connected to main house but gives us some distance under same roof. I went back to Mom and discussed the option of having her move west again (I told her now was the time if she wanted to reconsider) and after some thought with her health issues she decided that would be best.

New home will be complete around June of 19 and we will move Mom here next summer. We signed doc and deposit on that this afternoon along with Lot selection. Still in hippy land but a couple miles west towards the Mountains from where we are now.

Finally fired up the forge today.
First,  I took an old eucalyptus stump, cut it down,  made it level on both ends then routered it out to fit an old beat up and broken anvil (with my brother's help).
Then took a small piece of 5160 (leaf spring) and put the heat and hammer to it.
Plan on making a small skinner type blade for practice.

I think I made a build thread on here a couple years ago Shawn.  Just couldn't bring myself to use it when it's freaking 120* and the winters are so short.

Haha. I found a pic in this thread and you and Sam asked for a build thread. Never did it...now I remember why..I used the wrong cement and it cracked pretty bad. I threw it in the shed and tried to forget about it until my future son in law mentioned wanting to build a knife. Lol. I'll probably throw some pics up.

Shawn,  patience my friend.  and prayers for you and your family in all these matters.

Thanks Charles, we’ll take them. A lot of moving pieces for last couple months and next few going forward.

I’ll say this transition of looking forward with oldest starting to visit colleges and now having to have a heavier hand in taking care of my parents is overwhelming at times. Just trying to do what is right and navigate all these waters while staying sane! It’ll all work out, no doubt there is a plan.

You are growing and may not realize it.

A personal observation: We seem to reach a certain level of personal growth, maturity and wisdom while our parents are alive. But somehow the process of their leaving us alone which in my view takes several years leaves us much wiser and mature. It will change you in ways you have never thought of as you start to look at your own mortality. Afterall, parents are approximately 20 years older than us, so their passing may mark our days in our minds. One goes through this thing, "Whoa, I only have twenty years to live." And that is it for you for awhile. But that gives way slowly to something better. I say, so what if I have years or less, what I had was really something, and I revel in the growth and success of my children, and with some forward looking expectation, I do yearn to meet Jesus and be reunited with my parents, grand parents, old friends, and to see what the next life holds for me.

Yep, this is a transitional time. THe bible talks about "Seasons" of one's life. Whether it be a good one or a bad one, one thing holds true, and that is, that for every season, there is another to follow...

Was in Yosemite this weekend with the boys and scouts. Got there late Friday and setup, in the morning it started to snow. About 6-8 inches and it stayed nice and soft until we left early Sunday.

0* sleeping bag was OK after I got 3 layers on, no tents were cold weather hence the tarps.

New tires were great, rub in just one spot when turned just right (will address). Didn't even need 4x4. Saw a cool adventure RV.

Was kinda purty there if I must say!

Well, due to Hank's success over Thanksgiving, went over to the dark side and joined Facebook to better connect with those interested in breeding to him.  Will continue to espouse Real Man values and sense on that format - one plus is I can now access some of my son's former on-line presence and photos - mixed blessing to be sure.  Did start to reconnect with relatives across the country - avoiding the Political stuff though not common sense right and wrongs.

Jon is not lying!  They litterally said on the news the other night exactly why lincoln was still getting snow falling when our storm had passed and was over by mike dumping on them.

I as well have a 13-14 pending brand

Duramax is having an issue.  Steering would go back to old school no power indeed slow driving conditions and only unlock after putting power the opposite direction of desired travel.  Trouble shooting showed no wear to any of products that might cause issue.  Gear box was only six months old so I called vendor who next day shipped me a replacement to verify it wasn’t his part.  Blue top gear box for the win

I got tired of the guess and said replace all parts involved. She got a new hydro boost, power steering pump and the before mentioned gear box.   It drives great steers tight and smooth.   Just damaged the steering clock spring in the process.  So I took it to my buddy at the dealership for that part to be replaced

Built a set of stairs for the loft area. Before the only access was up a set of attic stairs. These are only temporary, we are going to redo this area into a bathroom and put in some easy low angle stairs. But this was only about $100 and it is easy enough for the kids to get up and down safely.
It was my first attempt at stairs and they turned out nice and sturdy.

I’m assuming you mean spanning the entire length?  For added strength?  I did not. It is an 8 foot span, roughly a 2x6 of uncut stringer, SYP #1. I didn’t think it was needed, but If you think it’s needed, I’ll add it.  You’ve got a lot more experience with this than me.
