Firearms / They don't make them like they use to

Growing up my grandfather had a several diffrent guns but the one I loved was his Winchester 1886 which my cousin got after he passed and sold for drug money some years later

Well when Winchester said they would make a reproduction of it I went to my LGS and placed one on order. Winchester was some what off on when they would be produced, I waited 2 1/2 years but it did come in. I don't like waiting! Took it out and shot 20 round of 45 70 now my right shoulder is black, blue and red but was total worth the wait. I guess that steel butt plate and 45 70 round was made for someone with no feeling in their shoulder or back in the day those guys shoulders could take a bunch more pounding

The wife and I are talking about a road trip to Cincinnati this summer. Would anyone have any suggestion of what we should not miss while we are there? We had talked about the Arc encounter anyone been? is it worth the drive?

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Christmas memories

Many years ago when I was a inflight manitenance technican on the Airborne Command Post (the airplane with the keys to launch the nukes) because of the mission of the aircraft we had some priorities with things. We sitting in the alert bunker a plan was hatched and the maintenance and radio operators went out to the aircraft fired up the radios and started calling remote bases, camps and forts and asked if they would like to place a call home. This was before Facebook, moral call and the like. Bring some Chritsmas joy to families a minutes at a time. Most likly the best Christmas I spent away from the family.

Anyone else have some milatry Christmas stories?

Evening rant!!

Went to a military retirement ceremony for a guy that I supervised many years ago when I was in (I sure hope this isn't making me old). Good to see many of the younger guys from when I retired an man so many new faces, I wondered if their mothers knew that they had gotten out of the house. But back to the rant: why in the world for a military retirement would you need to print the words to the Nation Anthem in the program? 99% of the members are or had been military. The guy that was retiring wife and kids are the only ones that I knew had not been in the military. If you are going to defend this country I would think you could sign he first verse of our National anthem (I won't start on athletes especially Olympic ones) maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy

I got hooked on square D on another forum and followed it over here (maybe Flyin6 also). I a Duramax crew cab and mainly wanting to keep it as drive-able as possible and be able to make sure if somethings happens I can make it to family and to a safe place. 24 years in the Air Force turning wrenches on airplanes and now working there again but trying to find parts for a 60 year old airplane.
