Like Sam mentioned,  they use "boots" nowadays,  which is essentially a patch with a plug made to it, that goes through the hole from the inside.

I used it for more than it was designed for.  A Ford front wheel hub finally killed it.
A 20 ton is what you want for bushings. ...sounds overkill but it isn't.

I'm not Tex, but I used a 20 ton in my shop pretty regularly, until I got carried away and bent the main beam on it. Worked fine for the price.

I wonder what's "special" about his seal. Different size journal than stock? If not, then he's blowing smoke, because I believe in one as new as an '08, that the oem seal is teflon, and they very seldom leak like the older rubber ones....if installed properly (some are easy to install backwards, and should also be installed dry)

I was thinking flex under load...braking/torsional load. I can't think of a way to check that. Since everything looks good, I would just slap some pads back on and chaulk it up to design.

Build Threads / Re: Ramcharger Build
« on: October 04, 2016, 09:40:57 AM »
I would mount everything together without the pads and make sure the caliper is aligned with the rotor
and the bushings are tight.  If those 2 items are gtg,  and the rotor wasn't loose, you might have an issue with the bracket flexing....it wouldn't take much to cause that amount of uneven wear.

Holy moly those are some BIG bricks!

4575
Sounds like one of the safety infrared sensors is misaligned, or blocked by something.

On mine, at certain times of day the sun shines just right at one of the sensors and it doesn't close. I have to get out of the truck and stand in front of the sun to shade the sensor, and hit the remote, get back in and drive off. lol

On one at my old house, the load side of the circuit board burned when a torsion spring broke. Took it apart and soldered it, been fine ever sense.
...but in your case, I'm thinkin' one of the safeties is "trippin".

Some cranks have open holes in the crank, but can't tell you if that's the case on a 3.8. Even if they are, and even without any type of sealant, they wouldn't leak ....but might seep over time.

Possibly cam plug, galley plugs, oil pan upper or lower, intake, or rear main/housing. No way to know without eyes on. A mirror should work for the rear intake....then If you can see anything with the flywheel cover off, invest in some oil dye, clean the heck out of it with brake cleaner, and check with a black light while someone starts it up with you under it (in case it's a fast leak). If it's a leak that "scatters" or slings everywhere, you'll have a tough time determining which place it is once the trans is out and it can't be ran.

I found this pic, and it seems to show 2 galley plugs above the bellhousing area, and one below the cam. if you see a puddle in the rear, by the intake, it may also be one of those plugs (if in fact they are plugs)

I really wanted a 5.7 and almost pulled the trigger a couple years ago. From what I read, they weren't allowed inthe US because of the ability to penetrate armor, but once "hunting" rounds became available, they lifted the ban. I think any pistol that shoots a (small) rifle round is way cool.

...and finally, I added some diamond plate the the rear ramp so I can strap the ranger up against it now that the bed is shorter (the tires stick out past the bed)

Then, I wired the generator to the transfer panel, and swapped out the 50a drier recepticle to a 50a welder plug. If I ever need power somewhere, this will be handy because all of my welders and compressors have that style plug. I might even make a cord that will backfeed the house if power goes down.

Everything Trailer, Camper, or RV related / Re: 05 Raptor toy hauler

I took the voltage meter/display and power switch out of the inverter and soldered in several feet of cat6 to remote mount them inside by the fuse panel.

...the volt meter fit in a switch slot almost perfectly!

The (large) inverter switch interupts the output power (110v), which is tied into the shore power in the transfer panel so it HAS to be off when plugged in at home. lol
I have the 2-110v legs of the trailer ran to the 2 pole switch (the coach is 220v...the inverter is only 110), and the single leg from the inverter feeds both legs when turned on. If I was pushing more than 20a, this would probably have issues, but so far so good.

The other switch shuts off the Converter, so it doesn't drain the batteries trying to , uh, charge the batteries. It was mounted upside down to help eliminate confusion (I need all the help I can get).

This is with the microwave on:

Then I remembered that I had one of these I bought for the truck, but couldn't find a decent place to mount it because of it's size:

The trailer already had a transfer panel for the genset, but was not hooked up, since it didn't have a gen. when I got it. I had been just plugging the shore power cord into a 50a receptacle mounted below the 7k gen when I installed it.

The inverter got mounted...urrr..installed, in the luggage basement :

Then built some 1/0 cables to hook to the batteries:

Huntin' season is just about here, so I got around to changing out the hydraulic lines to the slideouts this weekend. It was a real joy, especially ripping the bed apart upstairs.

I'm going to pretend that I'm smart, and that I'm Phil for a moment....a famous rocket scientist.

If we take the distance to Mars which is 34,000,000 miles (rounding numbers here) and divide that by the speed of the craft in the video, of 63,000mph, we come up with roughly 540 hrs, divided by 24 hrs in a day, and we come up with approximately 24 1/2 days travel time. ya might wanna take something to read :)
