OK, not my idea
This morning I read my wife a poem I wrote for her some days ago. I have written her poems since I have known her, and it's something she really liked.
So while I was reading it to her during out little "Moment," the pre Rangers were eves-dropping. They couldn't withhold a healthy "Guy-Jab" or two, so the older one starts, "My AK-47 is so very good, to you I shoot, this...and on and on.
So Kat and I started laughing and then I rambled off a quatrain of prose that sounded like that. She roared with laughter and said, "You need to write that down and post it."
So I did. Here it is, enjoy and have a laugh or giggle or two
A Combat Valentine
Your eyes they are like tracer fire
Your accuracy uncontested
Your target acquisition
Can by none be bested!
With carbine or a pistol,
Or an AK-47
The thoughts of you always send me
To my seventh heaven!
In combat and in training,
Or mission preparation
The way you wear your camouflage
Gives me thoughts of more flirtation
Boots and guns and heavy ruck
Are so often to be carried
But you, you are so beautiful
I dream of when we married
So tarry not this special day
They call the Valentine
For the briefing comes now much too soon
You are like vintage wine
The gunfire’s roar, incoming still!
But through the mist and dust
The rubble and the scattered ruin
In you my heart entrusts
Medals, glory, missions still
Await us in times coming
But in time frozen, my mind’s eye sees
My strong love for you becoming!
