Faith Discussion / Re: Prayer Request thread
« on: December 05, 2016, 07:41:21 PM »
If you could all keep my oldest Baylee in your prayers. She has an MRI scheduled next week to rule out a meniscus tear on her knee. She plays basketball (starting point guard on her freshman team) & is currently sidelined. Pretty bummed as this is her life year around & wanting to play college ball as her goal. Definitely a small issue in the big picture but for a 14 year old it's been hard on her. Thanks

Nice looking upper....

On smokey stove- grandpa always used a small amount of diesel or kerosene tossed from a old jelly jar onto his dry stack of kindling in the stove- this flames quickly and hotter than without warming flue quickly for thermal draw.  Adding another section of pipe and vane topper and you'll be breathing easier and not looking like a a Cheech and Chong movie!

I used to use some bar oil & the oxy / acetylene torch to start the stove in my first shop. Same idea & worked great.

Here's the fill nozzle I have.

And link.

http://mil.sceptermilitary.com/fuel_containers/accessories/04353/

Thanks for posting that link, will hold off on getting one until I see how this other functions. I have the standard car filler neck on the JK so not sure that other would work anyhow.

8008
100#'ers will work fine, its low pressure so when running the line and checking joints I've used a BBQ grill lighter to see if I had leaks.  :o Yeah, soapy water works too but as long as you check the joint shortly after turning on the valve and you can turn it off if you find a leak it's not an issue.

8009
What kinda finish you looking at. I mean the pink is OK, but,,,,,,,,,,

Where is Nate at on this? I mean I had a couple dainty faded red straps on fuel tanks yesterday & you would have thought I pee'd in his cheerios. Meanwhile Don tries turning the hide site into a breast cancer awareness fundraiser & not a peep from the cheap seats?!?  ???

8010
Couple thoughts, use a shovel & bucket to clean out wood stove. If ash falls on floor or exterior crevices of stove then use that vacuum.

Knee pads, since you're fond of Duluth buy the pants with the double knee area that has an insert for their knee pads. No stupid straps to not function properly or make the back of your leg sweat and or rub raw.

Go buy the gasket seal for the door on the wood stove too & I always leave the door cracked open until you get the fire going good. Mo oxygen good for fire (caveman voice).

Edit: Other thought I just had, is that wood actually dry? Reason I ask is because once upon a time Ashley tried telling me they burn "green" wood in TX. Long story but he doesn't burn "green" wood any longer & has no issues because he has very dry wood and can tell the difference.

Fix that & carry on! ;D

8012
I got a good chuckle out of that, thank you

I think it's more a ribbin' on the wrench.

If the gasket is not clean and he lid tight they can leak.
As well if venting will be needed don't fill to the top.
The air vent runs through the holes around the perimeter into the handle.
If you are too full it will push fuel out the cap when venting or using. Just FYI.

Yeah, Bobby has his licks coming now that he's in my cross hairs...... ;)

I was wondering about holes on the perimeter, that makes sense thanks for the heads up.

this is a real mans site

those fancy wrenches to get the cap off. Yeah, you'll need that wrench as these things don't leak anything and seem to pressurize over time.

Well as this is a real man's site, let me be the first to say you don't need a "fancy wrench" to remove those tops. You just need upper body strength...  ;D

Maybe so, but it was a package deal & it's a nice piece. I've never used them neighbor claims they fill easily I'll let you know. I was looking at the larger rotopax until he showed me these & stated he had a rotopax leak (the one on wr450 hasn't yet knock on wood).

OK, so enough about Ken and him being a year older and falling down the hill and lacking the ability to learn how to carry a newer technology sidearm.......

Seriously, it was making me depressed coming on the site and the only updates are Ken's B-day well wishes. I think you guys are all going soft, this is the kind of stuff my hippy neighbors yap about daily. Don't get me wrong I'm happy he made it through another year of my harassing him about H bumper stickers and her being his GF and all but this is a real mans site so we need to get on with it already!

So I mentioned of acquiring some fuel tanks for the JK. These are the real deal Scepter version cans, buddy of mine (neighbor FJ guy, non hippy he even has an FFL) who was born a Hoosier (like I said real deal here) has a contact who sells them (also current Hoosier) and he even machines those fancy wrenches to get the cap off. Yeah, you'll need that wrench as these things don't leak anything and seem to pressurize over time. Anyhow I paid just north of two bills for the two cans, the spout and the wrench. What can I say, I'll pay for quality. So as to quit teasing here are some pics, currently building the rack to hold them to the rear JK tail gate and waiting on the upgraded hinges for that rear gate to arrive via the brown van man. Pics will follow of all of that down the road.

Slight update, still working on rear tire carrier. It kinda took a turn as I acquired a couple expensive fuel tanks that are getting mounted to rear tail gate. I ordered new set of tail gate hinges (upgraded units) so waiting on those to finish fuel tank mounts then the tire carrier. Will post some pics later.

So since it turned cold & I started using the heater the blower motor started its squeaking noise again. It did this at the end of last winter, once it warmed up outside & I quit using heat I forgot about it. Doesn't squeak using the ac, so seeing how it is just start of winter figured I should tackle this project.

Ordered up a new blower motor from rock auto $40 ish. Was kinda dreading this as I've done some vehicles in the past & this can be a pain to swap. Anyhow if I didn't have to stand on my head I'd say it was easier than an oil change. Removed glove box (which actually isn't necessary) as it can be accessed from the front passenger footwell. Single snap plug for power & 3 screws it drops right out. Literally a 10 min job, an engineer used his noggin when designing that unit.

We see them day & night here out my back door but they're probably liberal hippy coyotes & think that's ok.......

The tree hugger types think they are wonderful, local retired po and I had a nice discussion on our neighborhood forum after several ankle biting dogs were attacked in people's back yards. It was his view we just needed to give them more hugs because they were here first. I just listed the diseases they carry & spread as my response. ::)

You talking about furry "Wiley" type, or the ones from Syria, Somalia and Iraq etc.?  If they're true "hippy" coyotes, they're stoned and not too much to worry about - leave a bag of Cheetos opened in the backyard, and they'll move along....... ;D

We have all kinds, didn't you ever hear don't feed the animals?

Concealment. Be lucky to deflect a 22 with a door. Newer are better with the side impact doors.

With a car, get behind the block, it also hides your feet.

Also, never hug a wall or fence. Bullets tend to stay within 12in of the wall when they deflect.

Now, have you heard "slicing the pie"?

I have, when you're trying to shoot around cover. Basics of it is to stay back away from cover a few feet. Bad guy on other side sees less of you compared to if you were right up next to it & ducking out from cover to shoot. I'm sure there is a lot better technical way to phrase it but that's my redneck definition! ;)

JR, thanks for reminding me. That's in girls next lesson.... ;D

Also, I dealt with some special Humvee up armored door skins made from a special aluminum type material. It was a prototype & would stop a lot more than a .22 bullet. But JR is right standard car door is very thin.

If I'm working the fire hose flex pants are my go to setup. Thinking I should invest in the knee pads for them at some point.

Loaded up jeep last night with ar's & plywood targets. Took girls about an hour NE to a free shooting range out on the Pawnee national grasslands this morning. Opens at dawn, no range master so if you get there early it's pretty much just you & maybe one or two other old guys. I say old guys because the guys my age or younger only show at 10:30 or after. By then it's usually a steady stream of vehicles headed in the last few miles of washboard dirt roads as I'm leaving. I'm not big on people & like space when it's the girls & I.

We zeroed all the guns at 25 to start & seems my youngest's hammer spring was put in wrong by me. It would dent the primer slightly but no bang. Started by swapping bcg with mine (mine has several K thru it & hers was new spikes). Still no go, pulled upper & worked the hammer. Seemed weak & after closer inspection saw the spring was installed wrong. Leatherman multi tool saved the day again. The girls each put 3-500 rounds down range at various distances. I think I'm out of cheapo steel case now. We worked thru several malfunctions with my oldest. They even learned how to define concealment versus cover. It was a good morning at the range & we left it better than we found it hauling some trash out.

Well just cut up some oak that I got from my dad. About 18 inch diameter. Also cut up about a 14 diameter cedar that I had down.

Shawn it has a 20 inch bar right now. I'll get a 28 to hang on the wall for those rare instances.

This thing freakin rips!!  First pro saw I've ever used and man does it go through 18inches of oak like butter. It sounds awesome. Hearing protection is not optional.

Yeah it's 14.5lbs, so tree climbing with it may not be ideal but I'll keep the little poulan around for the lighter stuff and put a 16 inch bar on it and get a smaller pro saw when that one craps out.

With all of that said & it getting colder here I told the wife tonight after looking at chainsaw porn for this thread that there were several things I missed from our farm. Her response was "your wood stove" & I stated yes but farm stuff was my truck, dump trailer, skid loader & husky saws..... ;D
