D.O.T. / Checking in
« on: April 21, 2020, 12:10:26 AM »
Hey there fellas, long time no see. Wanted to drop in to say hello and see how everyone is doing. Doing ok here, lots has changed since you probably heard from me. I think last time I posted we had just had our first baby, sometime early 2018. Anyhow, she's 2.5 now.. Daddy's girl for sure. Almost 3 months ago, we had our second, a little boy. I can't even begin to explain how much I enjoy being a dad, which is primarily why I have been absent from here for so long. All of my time is spent with my kids after work, and what little remains after they're in bed I try to work on my projects and chores (maybe a couple other thread updates needed!) Our chocolate lab turns 3 later this month, and has turned out to be the best dog. He's very gentle with my kids. Love that dog.

It's definitely been a whirlwind couple of years since you've heard from me. In addition to the enormous blessings of our kids, we've also had our fair share of challenges. We discovered some major issues with our house, and are currently in litigation with the builder over numerous construction defects resulting in severe water intrusion and resulting rot. We have a very strong case, based on the thousands of photos taken throughout construction, but it's still a slog and attorneys and industry expert witnesses are damn expensive. Our family has had some health challenges also. My dad was diagnosed with cancer, battled it, beat it, and is now in remission. Sadly though, my mother in law lost her 3 year battle with cancer a few weeks ago, and is now passed on to eternity with our Lord.

Lot's of good times though too! We continue to enjoy spending our vacation time camping, either up in the mountains our at our family friend's place out at the beach. Last year we upgraded RV's again, jumped to a fifth wheel this time. Zero regrets. Love the fifth wheel so far. The LBZ handles it nicely once I added airbags.... but truth be told I've got my eye on a Cummins megacab. Around the place, I've really got the shop dialed in, made some tool upgrades, built some stuff. May have to snap some photos and show you all what the shop looks like now.

Anyway, here's some updated photos of the family. Can't promise I'll be posting regularly, but will try to update some of my threads, and DOT up one of yours from time to time.

Looks like Trump is abandoning his base, and is now working with the Dems. Told ya, he's a lib. And seems to be a terrible negotiator. Outside of the Gorsuch nomination, what has he done? Nothing...

Impeach him, I'd rather have Pence.

Time for a coffee refill.

Well, we pulled the trigger and did it.... been himmin' and hawin' for a year or so. With the puppy, and kid on the way, the 2014 24' White Hawk was gonna be cramped. So we upgraded to a 2015 30' Jay Flight Elite. Has much more living space, has the elite package which gets ya all LED lighting, aluminum wheels, 80gal fresh water tank, larger fridge, 2 skylights, larger propane tanks, and porcelain toilet. Also has the fiberglass walls and frameless windows, and the thermal package with full underbelly insulation.

We're pretty stoked, got an amazing deal private party (sad story, death in the family forced sale, sold it for what they owed), and have a pending sale on our first trailer now... will almost be a wash, net cost to us is a couple grand for the upgrade. Had to drive across the state to Wenatchee to get it, but it was definitely worth it... paid about 6-8k less than it would have been priced locally.

Definitely heavier, at 7k dry vs 5k dry for our previous trailer. Truck handled it fine on the way home over Swauk Blewett (for your PNW'ers) even without my weight distribution setup on yet. Got hot at the top of the hill and the fan kicked on, but with our smaller trailer it would do that too. Little squirly on I-90 in a crosswind, but the Blue Ox Sway Pro will fix that right up. Will be right at 8500 when she's loaded up with full propane and water, but I won't be hauling all 80 gallons of water very often. Nice to have the capacity tho for boondocking trips.

Here's the new one...

Well, we got a puppy. Family friends bred their yellow for the final time, and she's an outstanding dog, and previous litter produced great tempered, smart puppies. So here we go.

The this is Mack

He's going to be a big boy, pushing 100 lbs probably. His mama is over 90

Hand Tools, Power Tools, Welders, etc / Ridgid Hybrid Table Saw
« on: February 09, 2017, 10:15:09 PM »
Picked up a new table saw. Wanted to get a full size, yet mobile machine, so I focused in on hybrid saws. Narrowed down to the Ridgid, and was able to use a coupon to get a good deal. Got it put together and dialed in, but my zero-clearance throat plate I picked up isn't fitting properly.

I did throw a diablo 50 tooth thin-kerf combination blade on it, since most of the time stock blades suck. Will do more of a review once I get some time. Made a couple quick cuts for fun and it cuts real nice on some scrap 1/2" CDX.

Hand Tools, Power Tools, Welders, etc / New Dewalt 12v Drill and Driver
« on: January 22, 2017, 07:51:19 PM »
Well I've been trying to narrow down a new set of drills for small/finish work. My 18v XRPs are absolute horses, but they're big and heavy. Getting into cabinets, overhead on a ladder, etc is suboptimal, so I decided to expand the stable and get a nice 12v set. I looked at the Boschs, Ridgids, and Milwaukees too, but they all had batteries in the grip, which made a rather girthy grip. I ended up gravitating back to my trusted Dewalts. My father in law has this same set and I love them. These will be a nice compliment to my 18v XRPs, and are significantly lighter.

Also organized my bits and drivers a bit, no pun intended. My countersinks were getting rattled and dinged, so I got another case just for them.

Hand Tools, Power Tools, Welders, etc / Workshop Air Filtration
« on: January 04, 2017, 12:52:14 AM »
Figured this counts as tools...

So after spending a day in the shop building things, cutting plywood, 2x's, etc... i realized things got really dusty really fast. On my chop saw, i can rig up the shop vac, but circular saw... no dice.

So i want to design an air filtration system, using the same size furnace filters from the house. So when it's time to swap out the ones in the house, they will be then 'shop-worthy'. I think i'm going to first do a simple box, suspended from the ceiling, and then ultimately do a ducted system where the fan and filters are up in the attic to cut down on sound, and also get rid of the big box hanging from the ceiling.

Now the question i'm trying to solve at this point, is what to use as the fan. So far, i really like what the inline cetrifugal fans have to offer. They're mainly used and marketed for indoor grow operations, but hey, they move air.

Would like to get about 1000cfm, but there's a nice little blower that's 750cfm for $80 on amazon. Has 8" inlet/outlet, which seems like a hefty amount of volume.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019J979MY/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A18TGAB2SJ5GBJ

Would wire into a timer, 120v

Obviously, this is not a replacement for a 'dust control' system, a la central vac, which at some point down the road i will do. But for now, clearing up the air seems like something that will help the ole lungs in the meantime.

Have any of you guys done something like this? Lots of videos on youtube of people using furnace blowers, but i haven't found any cheap, and i do like the idea of round inlet and outlet so i could use circular ducting down the road when i tuck it up into the attic.

Firearms / Passed Guns and Their Stories
« on: December 29, 2016, 04:17:40 PM »
So we celebrate Christmas on my side of the family on Christmas Eve, always have, and always at my Grandparents house. It’s very special for Grampa to host. Well they’re getting up in age, and my grandma’s health is deteriorating rapidly. So as we finished up with opening packages, my Grampa stands up and says ‘well I have something to say’. He starts to get emotional, and says ‘we’ve been talking, and have agreed its time to do something we’ve been putting off for quite awhile.’ Of course, we’re all like WTH is going on!? And grampa walks into the back room. He comes out with a rifle. His 300 WinMag. And he starts to tell us that the time has come for him to pass along his hunting rifles, since he won’t be using them any longer, and he wants us to have them (myself, and my uncle, since my dad doesn’t shoot or hunt). The winmag goes to my Uncle. Next trip out, he brings his Remington 7400 30.06, and hands it to me. This is it here.

Next trip out, an old lever action 300 savage, to my uncle. Then, he comes out with his beloved Winchester 94, 30-30. At this point he’s bawling. He holds it out towards me, and says that his dad gave it to him when he was 12, which would have been 1943 I believe. Was really tore up about it, obviously it meant the world to him. We hugged and he cries for close to a minute. Absolutely gorgeous gun. Excellent condition. This is it here.

Next trip out, he is carrying a small revolver. He said it was his grandfathers. It’s a US Revolver Co 38, circa 1915-1920. He said when he was a boy, he always knew it was in the sewing table drawer. He then handed it to me.

So it was a really amazing moment, I knew of these guns, but it was surreal of him to give them away. Especially the 30.30, as I knew how much it meant to him. He said half a dozen times, ‘now you take good care of that.’

But there’s more to the story. The next morning, my wife and I packed up from my folk’s house, and were ready to hit the road to go spend Christmas Day with her side of the family. We’re just about to pull on the freeway, and my dad calls me. ‘Are you on the freeway yet?’, no I say. ‘Can you pull over real quick?’ he asks. So I do, and he tells me that grampa had just called him, frantic. He was having immense separation anxiety over the 30.30, was up all night, etc. He was ashamed to say, but he needed it back. So, I turned around and took it back to my dad, to give back to grampa. I told him, ‘dad, this is and will always be grampa’s rifle’. So, grampa has it back, but whenever he decides, I’ll take care of it, and it will always be in the family.

Thinking about it, I’m not sure if I’m connected like that to any of my guns, or any material thing like he is to that rifle… Probably the only one that I couldn’t ever part with is my other grampa’s Savage Model 24 I got it when he passed.

Anyway, thanks for reading. Wanted to tell that story, about some really cool old guns with lots of history.

Hey all. I'm going to be starting wiring on the shop soon. Need to know how much juice to run to the compressor room so I can tell the sparky what I need.

Will either go with a 60gal or 80gal upright, probably 60 unless somebody talks me out of it. Nothing fancy like some of you guys have... I don't have the time or the know-how for a rebuild of an older unit. Don't want to go as cheap as Husky or Kobalt, but not as expensive as top brands I've never heard of.

It seems for some of the 60s, 30amp would be sufficient? 230 volt

Hand Tools, Power Tools, Welders, etc / The great Circular Saw debate
« on: March 29, 2016, 12:13:29 PM »
Ok guys, I'm trying to figure out which route to go with a new or used circular saw.

I have my 18v DeWalt 6.5" left side blade that i absolutely love, and works great for small jobs/projects. But bigger stuff, battery kills productivity.

I had a Skil worm drive, but damn those things are heavy. Traded it off to a buddy.

I want to get a bigger 7.25" corded saw, and i'm thinking of getting a Left side blade circ saw. Saw the Bosch left hand blade and this is the leading contender at the moment.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WMDBIE/ref=s9_simh_gw_g469_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=1A4T94JQFEXFZ1SZM8BZ&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2437869742&pf_rd_i=desktop

I just feel like having the blade on the left where i can see my but better is a big benefit over a regular circ saw with right side blade configuration.

What do you guys think? What's your preference?

Got a new toy today... A new to me X300. Been scanning craigslist for used after I priced new and didn't want to drop the coin on a new one, and didn't want to settle for one of the big box models that aren't built as well.

Saw this puppy post before heading into church and I was the first person to contact him. It's a 2010, was asking 2250, and it's worth every bit of that, especially with a bagger. Thing looks practically new, absolutely spotless, and only 150 hrs.

Think she needs a new battery, but it ran like a top and everything checked out great before I made the deal.

Super stoked!

What are you building? / Garage Shelves and Workbench (pic heavy)
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:13:46 PM »
Hey all,

Finally got internet set up here at the house, so thought i'd upload some photos of a recent project. Trying to get the garage organized, so I built some shelves and a workbench. Shelves are pretty big, 12' long, 2' deep. Built out of 2x4's and plywood. They're lagged into the wall studs, and the plywood is glued and nailed off with ring shanks... not goin anywhere. Wife is happy, she's got space for all her bins of decorations and other stuff. I got a couple spots for tools, screws, etc.

Supervisor just supervising... (was watching my sisters dog)

Didn't get as many pics of the bench in progress... wife was taking a nap. It's 2x4's 12" OC, with a 4x4 corner post. Post was framed in for extra strength. Again, lagged into the wall, and lagged to the post. Top is 3/4" sanded ply, glued and screwed to the base. Very sturdy...

Got this new toolbox for my birthday. So far I really like it.

And it fits in nicely with the bench I made, with the steel cabinets I already had

Fun times!

Site Help / Site Issues: 9/15
« on: September 19, 2015, 12:20:14 AM »
Good evening everyone,

Earlier today we had a substantial outage as our webhost worked on a migration of our website to a new server. We anticipate that this new service will result in a faster page, and most importantly a more stable page.

One quirk that we've had to work though is a bit of data loss during the transition. Once the "new" site was initiated, we quickly noticed that data (posts, pictures, PM's, etc) was missing from 9/10 to current. This was obviously a big issue, so we had to restore from a backup taken earlier this morning. So you might notice posts that were made today are missing, and we're sorry about that. It does appear that the last weeks worth of data was successfully recovered, so that's great news!

Again, apologies for the issues today. We're really hoping the upgrade we made to the web server will result in smooth sailing from here on out!

Thank you,
Forum Staff

Good evening men. We need some prayer out here for these dang fires out west. Lost three firefighters yesterday battling the fire up in Twisp. Houses, timber, crops, going up like tinder. We need rain, without lightning. Areas that got torched a couple years ago are on fire again. We're having fires on the Westside, that's unheard of. Just heartbreaking, and so far relentless.

Heavenly Father, I ask that you show mercy on these families who have lost everything, and selfless and courageous firefighters and pilots out on the lines. Open your skies and rain on these fires. We ask that you answer the prayer of so many who are in danger, who have lost everything, and those who are at risk. In the name Jesus Christ our savior, AMEN.

Well ladies and gentlemen, yours truly and my wife signed on the dotted line today to begin construction on our new home. Not as big of a piece of property as some of the others here, but we're in the burbs and not the sticks. So i guess technically this will be our Bug-In site :)

Been a long time in the making... Since selling our house back in August of last year, to deciding to build, to finding our builder, and ultimately the land... then doing building plans, site planning, engineering, budgeting, negotiating, permitting, financing, etc etc etc. Been trying to save money like crazy for quite awhile now (hence a stale LBZ build thread, and no new things that go bang).

Well, here she be... our own little piece of paradise. Just shy of an acre, 125'x300' lot with room (and plans!) for my shop, and a garden, and fruit trees and whatever else we want back there!

They've already logged, stumping is later this week, and foundation footings are scheduled to be dug next week.

These last dozen or so trees along the street are actually down now... this is just the most recent pic I have.

So incredibly blessed... God is good.

Gravity fed Hydraulic Ram pump providing presurized water from spring

I think the hardest part would be keeping the pipes/pumps/impellers/valves etc clean from debris in the original water source. Seems like folks like to build a dam of sorts, and then screen/filter the water before it enters their systems.

Obviously, for this to work, you've got to have elevation differential from the water source to be able to built gravity induced pressure. That water throughput, with pressure, can then either drive an electric generator (21st century water wheel), or be used to feed a ram pump, which then delivers a reduced quantity of water back uphill to an alternate location.

I'd needed to buy a complete socket/wrench set for quite awhile now... I just have a hodge-podge of hand me downs and would like to have a complete set.

I've been eyeballing this one for quite awhile, and wanted to get your guys' opinion. I can't afford Snap-on/Mac/Matco so please hold those recommendations  ;) I've got kind of a complex and am pretty brand specific, so I narrowed down on Craftsman for all my hand tools. Looked at Craftsman/Husky/Kobalt, and I think the Craftsman may have a slight edge, and still have their lifetime warranty. Craftsman seems to have more of the specialty tools over the other 2 as well.

http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-348-piece-mechanics-tool-set/p-00934348000P

MSRP $600, normally sells for $500, on sale on a Hot Buy for $329

Should i swoop this up? Do you see anything in there that is totally MEH? I like that 100 of the 348 pieces aren't stupid screwdriver bits like to see in some combo sets.

Thanks!

Tires, Wheels, and Suspension / All Terrain Tires for the Duramax
« on: April 17, 2015, 03:12:29 PM »
Ok guys, in the next couple months i'm going to be putting new shoes on the truck...

Wheels i have picked out already. Going with a 17". I have no plans to lift or level the truck. The wheels I have picked out are the Helo HE879.

I wanted to get a thread going on All Terrain Tires. I thought I was decided, but now i'm conflicted. Got a recommendation to not go with BFG A/T's, so i'm researching alternate options.

Whatever I get, it will be a 265/70/R17.

I had originally thought I wanted to go with the BF Goodrich A/T KO2... the new version of the classic A/T...

I did get some feedback (JR i think?) that these would wear quickly on the diesel... and there is no tread warranty offered with the KO2. Discount Tire has these for $214 per tire. I also saw these tires on another truck, and the more agressive sidewall tread stuff kind looks goofy if you ask me... maybe with a lift and bigger wheel/tire combo, but with standard-ish size tires, kinda looked like a DNR rig LOL

I got to lookin, and think I may be switching my mind and going with the Cooper Discoverer ATP. The ATP is a Discount Tire exclusive. They're $181 per tire, and right now you can get a $70 rebate on a set of 4. They also have a 55k mile tread warranty, which is a big plus over the BFG KO2...

I ran the Toyo A/T II's on my 08 duramax, and loved them... but they slung gravel like crazy, and they were dang expensive...

What do you guys think? Think the Coopers are a good bet?

Faith Discussion / As we approach Easter...
« on: April 01, 2015, 06:02:15 PM »
I wanted to take a second to post up here a summarized synopsis of the events around Christ's arrest, trial, death, and ultimately the resurrection and ascension. Some of you know the story well, some might like a refresher of the events, and it may be new to some.

I admit, I pieced it together from Wikipedia, but it seems to be entirely based on biblical reference.

*********************************************************************

The description of the last week of the life of Jesus (often called the Passion week) occupies about one third of the narrative in the canonical gospels. The narrative for that week starts by a description of the final entry into Jerusalem, and ends with his crucifixion.

The last week in Jerusalem is the conclusion of the journey which Jesus had started in Galilee through Perea and Judea. Just before the account of the final entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, the Gospel of John includes the Raising of Lazarus episode, which builds the tension between Jesus and the authorities. At the beginning of the week as Jesus enters Jerusalem, he is greeted by the cheering crowds, adding to that tension [with palms laid before his donkey, i.e. Palm Sunday].

Towards the end of the week, Jesus has the Last Supper with his disciples, during which he institutes the Eucharist [bread and wine, body and blood, do this in remembrance of me], and prepares them for his departure in the Farewell Discourse. In Matthew 26:36-46, Mark 14:32-42, Luke 22:39-46 and John 18:1, immediately after the Last Supper, Jesus takes a walk to pray, Matthew and Mark identifying this place of prayer as Garden of Gethsemane.

Jesus is accompanied by Peter, John and James the Greater, whom he asks to "remain here and keep watch with me." He moves "a stone's throw away" from them, where he feels overwhelming sadness and says "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass me by. Nevertheless, let it be as you, not I, would have it." Only the Gospel of Luke mentions the details of the sweat of blood of Jesus and the visitation of the angel who comforts Jesus as he accepts the will of the Father. Returning to the disciples after prayer, he finds them asleep and in Matthew 26:40 he asks Peter: "So, could you men not keep watch with me for an hour?"

While in the Garden, Judas appears, accompanied by a crowd that includes the Jewish priests and elders and people with weapons. Judas gives Jesus a kiss to identify him to the crowd who then arrests Jesus. One of Jesus' disciples [Peter] tries to stop them and uses a sword to cut off the ear of one of the men in the crowd. Luke states that Jesus miraculously healed the wound and John and Matthew state that Jesus criticized the violent act, insisting that his disciples should not resist his arrest. In Matthew 26:52 Jesus makes the well known statement: all who live by the sword, shall die by the sword.

Following his arrest, Jesus was brought to the house of Annas, the father-in-law of the high priest, Caiaphas. There he was interrogated with little result and sent bound to Caiaphas the high priest where the Sanhedrin had assembled (John 18:1–24).

Conflicting testimony against Jesus was brought forth by many witnesses, to which Jesus answered nothing. Finally the high priest adjured Jesus to respond under solemn oath, saying "I adjure you, by the Living God, to tell us, are you the Anointed One, the Son of God?" Jesus testified ambiguously, "You have said it, and in time you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Almighty, coming on the clouds of Heaven." The high priest condemned Jesus for blasphemy, and the Sanhedrin concurred with a sentence of death (Matthew 26:57–66). Peter, waiting in the courtyard, also denied Jesus three times to bystanders while the interrogations were proceeding just as Jesus had predicted.

In the morning, the whole assembly brought Jesus to the Roman governor Pontius Pilate under charges of subverting the nation, opposing taxes to Caesar, and making himself a king (Luke 23:1–2). Pilate authorized the Jewish leaders to judge Jesus according to their own law and execute sentencing; however, the Jewish leaders replied that they were not allowed by the Romans to carry out a sentence of death (John 18:31).

Pilate questioned Jesus and told the assembly that there was no basis for sentencing. Upon learning that Jesus was from Galilee, Pilate referred the case to the ruler of Galilee, King Herod, who was in Jerusalem for the Passover Feast. Herod questioned Jesus but received no answer; Herod sent Jesus back to Pilate. Pilate told the assembly that neither he nor Herod found guilt in Jesus; Pilate resolved to have Jesus whipped and released (Luke 23:3–16). Under the guidance of the chief priests, the crowd asked for Barabbas, who had been imprisoned for committing murder during an insurrection. Pilate asked what they would have him do with Jesus, and they demanded, "Crucify him" (Mark 15:6–14). Pilate's wife had seen Jesus in a dream earlier that day, and she forewarned Pilate to "have nothing to do with this righteous man" (Matthew 27:19). Pilate had Jesus flogged and then brought him out to the crowd to release him. The chief priests informed Pilate of a new charge, demanding Jesus be sentenced to death "because he claimed to be God's son." This possibility filled Pilate with fear, and he brought Jesus back inside the palace and demanded to know from where he came (John 19:1–9).

Coming before the crowd one last time, Pilate declared Jesus innocent and washed his own hands in water to show he has no part in this condemnation. Nevertheless, Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified in order to forestall a riot (Matthew 27:24–26) and ultimately to keep his job. The sentence written was "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews." Jesus carried his cross to the site of execution (assisted by Simon of Cyrene), called the place of the Skull, or "Golgotha" in Hebrew and in Latin "Calvary". There he was crucified along with two criminals (John 19:17–22).

Jesus agonized on the cross for six hours. During his last 3 hours on the cross, from noon to 3 pm, darkness fell over the whole land.

Jesus spoke from the cross, saying "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46 & Mark 15:34). Also, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do" (Luke 23:34). Also, in John 19:28, "I thirst." and John 19:29-30, "It is finished." Finally in Luke 23:46 "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

With a loud cry, Jesus gave up his spirit. There was an earthquake, tombs broke open, and the curtain in the Temple was torn from top to bottom. This tear signified a removal of restriction of the common Jews from the Temple's "Holiest of Holies", and that God's people now could, themselves, communicate directly with their advocate before God, Jesus the Christ, rather than needing the Temple's High Priest as an intercessor. The centurion on guard at the site of crucifixion declared, "Truly this was God's Son!" (Matthew 27:45–54). It is commonly believed that this was on the Friday, hence Good Friday.

Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the Sanhedrin and secret follower of Jesus, who had not consented to his condemnation, goes to Pilate to request the body of Jesus (Luke 23:50–52). Another secret follower of Jesus and member of the Sanhedrin named Nicodemus brought about a hundred pound weight mixture of spices and helped wrap the body of Jesus (John 19:39–40). Pilate asks confirmation from the centurion whether Jesus is dead (Mark 15:44). A soldier pierced the side of Jesus with a lance causing blood and water to flow out (John 19:34), and the centurion informs Pilate that Jesus is dead (Mark 15:45).

Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus' body, wrapped it in a clean linen shroud, and placed it in his own new tomb that had been carved in the rock (Matthew 27:59–60) in a garden near the site of crucifixion. Nicodemus (John 3:1) also brought 75 pounds of myrrh and aloes, and placed them in the linen with the body, in keeping with Jewish burial customs (John 19:39–40). They rolled a large rock over the entrance of the tomb (Matthew 27:60). Then they returned home and rested, because Shabbat had begun at sunset (Luke 23:54–56). Matt. 28:1 "After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb". i.e. "After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week,.......". "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said..........".(Matt. 28:6) On the third day, which is now known as Easter Sunday (or Pascha), Jesus rose from the dead.

The gospels state that the first day of the week after the crucifixion (typically interpreted as a Sunday), The followers of Jesus encounter him risen from the dead, after his tomb was discovered to be empty. The resurrected Jesus then appears to his followers that day and a number of times thereafter, delivers sermons and has supper with some of them, before ascending to Heaven.

The Ascension of Jesus is the Christian teaching found in the New Testament that the resurrected Jesus was taken up to heaven in his resurrected body, in the presence of eleven of his apostles, occurring 40 days after the resurrection. In the biblical narrative, an angel tells the watching disciples that Jesus' second coming will take place in the same manner as his ascension.

The canonical gospels include two brief descriptions of the Ascension of Jesus in Luke 24:50-53 and Mark 16:19. A more detailed account of Jesus' bodily Ascension into the clouds is then given in the Acts of the Apostles (1:9-11) where the narrative starts with the account of Jesus' appearances after his resurrection and his Ascension forty days thereafter.

Acts 1:9-12 specifies the location of the Ascension as the "mount called Olivet" near Jerusalem. Acts 1:3 states that Jesus: :"showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God". After giving a number of instructions to the apostles Acts 1:9 describes the Ascension as follows:"And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight." Following this two men clothed in white appear and tell the apostles that Jesus will return in the same manner as he was taken, and the apostles return to Jerusalem.

Bug-Out Bag and Camping gear / Fuel Siphoning Systems
« on: March 17, 2015, 11:02:33 AM »
We've got a lot of SHTF/Survival vehicle builds going on here... I wanted to see what the consensus was on what the best fuel siphoning systems are, and/or what you guys are planning on having on board as part of the vehicle kit. I got to thinking about this yesterday... naturally, extracting available fuel in a survival situation will be important, if pumps are unavailable, so wanted to start a thread to discuss.

What are your thoughts?

Firearms / Crossbreed Supertuck Review (pic heavy!)
« on: March 14, 2015, 10:40:29 PM »
Hey guys, wanted to do a little write up on my take on the Crossbreed Supertuck... This has come up in a couple other threads, so wanted to do a review. As some of you know, I'm a huge fan.

I use CB Supertucks exclusively for IWB concealed carry. I have one for both my Glock 19 9mm, and also for my Springfield XDS 45acp. In terms of size, the G19 is a tad larger. I could also carry a Glock 26, 27, and 23 (also 22 and 17 I think) in the same holster. The holsters are a leather/kydex hybrid style. You can get either horsehide or cowhide for the leather, I have horsehide on both. They are supposed to be better with handling perspiration, and i would agree. I had a cowhide version in the past and I definitely like the horsehide better.

Each holster is hand made per order, and you can also have them trim the leather to what they call "combat cut", where they effectively remove leather from behind the grip of the firearm. Both of mine are standard cut, and the added leather equates to comfort. I had a combat cut on a different setup and didn't like it as my love-handles had tendency to get pinched. Yeah, i got a little extra lovin! ;D

You can see that even though they're both supertucks, they're cut to match the profile of the firearm. Also, note the leather coverage behind the whole slide.. This means no metal on skin, and no chafing from the slide serrations.

A lot of people think of leather and automatically think "thick"... but they're really thin and hug your side nicely.

Can you tell which one I've had longer??

Retention is good, though if i shook them they'd fall out... However, when tight within a belt, there's no way they'd fall out if you were hanging upside down.

Here's some photos of me wearing them concealed. I also wear the Crossbreed gun belt, it's pretty rigid, like a gunbelt should be. Full disclosure also, I have a cotton tshirt on under my polo in these pics, though the polo is very thin... one of the poly golf shirt types. Also full disclosure, as you will see, I've got a few pounds to loose, whether that helps or hurts concealability i dunno.

Here's some pics, first of the smaller XDS:

Basically zero printing

Here's some pics with the larger framed G19:

Again basically zero printing.

In summary, I love these holsters. I can wear comfortably all day long, while working, doing chores, or even just sitting on the couch on the computer. In the car isn't bad, though typically if we're on the road for a long time, i'll remove from my holster and set in the center console. Nobody has EVER known I was armed based on visual. My wife of course does, and my mom when she gives me a hug... she's short  ;D

I would highly recommend these holsters to anybody who carry's concealed on a regular basis. I can vouch for stellar customer service also... I destroyed one trying to adjust the kydex with a blow dryer (my own fault) and they sent me a new one no questions asked. From their website: "CrossBreed Holsters has raised the standard for customer service in the holster industry through its two-week, try-it-free guarantee and a lifetime warranty*. Those standards continue today with every CrossBreed holster that is manufactured and sold. CrossBreed Holsters ensures that every customer is a customer for life."

Their founder, the late Mark Craighead, was also a Christian. From their website: "Mark was often asked about the name CrossBreed Holsters. He was not ashamed to answer that, although there is some reference to the hybrid holster designs he created, the larger meaning behind his company’s name references the Lord Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross that was made for all mankind."

Build Threads / Show off your Truck!!
« on: March 09, 2015, 01:44:10 PM »
Hey lets have some fun here... We all know about the build threads, and follow/update them religiously. What we also need here is a thread where we can show off our trucks even when we're not wrenching or modding.

Maybe you've just given her a bath and snapped a few photos, or got a new set of shoes... post pics!

Just crawled all over a Kia at the local mall, are frame deep in mud, or just hitched up the trailer and are heading out with your RV for vacation?? Yep you got it... pics!

Don't be shy... we all like trucks (among other things)... so let's see what you've got!

Build Threads / Kyle's LBZ Build
« on: March 01, 2015, 07:45:09 PM »
Well guys, here goes! My new-to-me truck arrived yesterday! This thread will capture all the things I do to the truck.

For those that haven't followed in the other thread, I had an LMM and decided to sell in and get an LBZ. Basically the same truck in terms of color and trim, but I wanted an OBS with the pre-DPF powertrain. Found this truck in Wisconsin, and made a deal and got in out here.

Here it is arriving via a great Transporter, Bob Wilson. He's a Christian, and we had a nice chat about doing God's work as he unloaded the truck. Was really cool, and I'm happy I was able to do business with him.

With my ugly mug...

Got it washed up (actually wife did, I was busy rebuilding a shower enclosure getting ready for tile) before attacking the front brush guard. I said it'd be the first thing to go, and I am a man of my word!

Here's how she sits right now...

And to cap off the day, i removed the gaudy dealer sticker off the tailgate
