Man, it just never stops. Today the anti-lock warning light came on along with the traction control warning light. The DIC displays a message "Service Trailer brake, along with a couple more messages.

Darn, I'd like to keep from buying new if I can help it!

I had a trailer brake service light at one time on my 2013. Would lock up trailer brakes at the slightest tap of the brake pedal regardless of the settings. Was bad enough we had to stop in the middle of the road and unplug the trailer plug just to be able to pull into a parking lot.

Replaced the "trailer tow relay" ($30 from rock auto) and have had no more issues since. The relay is located above the spare tire location under the bed. May be worth a look. Cheaper than a new Dmax

My favorite lake. Me and the family were up at Sam Rayburn just a few weeks ago. Water was a tad rough but had a great time all the same. Usually try to make a trip up at least once a year. Been tossing around the idea of purchasing some property up there at some point in the future. Hope you and the family have a nice trip and stay safe!!

Anyone have a vibration in a steering wheel when slow turning.  In parking lot of a backing up trailer situation.   I tried to video or record the sound but no such luck.

Slow wheel rotation and the vibration lasts multiple rotations.

On my duramax

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You haven’t noticed it in long corners at higher speeds?
Nope not in any long highway corners or canyon roads per say.  Parking lots and slow speeds.   Turning from a stop sign kinda stuff

I have replaced the steering plastic space before and that is a nasty annoying rattle but this is way way worse.

Dad had this problem on the 2005 duramax he had. Would make a terrible grinding and popping noise when backing in the driveway or slow turns. Ended up being the front hub/ wheel bearing assembly

Dad had this same problem on his 2011 LML. New TCM from amazon (the 256 dollar unit) and a reflash of the TCM from the dealer and zero issues since. His would even act like it was shifted to park or reverse when you would let off of the accelerator pedal. Very sketchy feeling to say the least

Can't really speak much on brands besides Polaris and a little on Kawasaki. I own a 2017 Polaris General 1000, 2008 Sportsman 500 H.O., dad owns 2014 Polaris Ranger Crew 800, and father-in-law owns Kawasaki Mule. The Ranger has been worked the hardest and so far only work to be done on it is fluid changes. Nothing else has needed repairing and it is worked like a dog and is cut zero slack. General has not had any issues thus far but hasn't been used as hard as the Ranger as it's a few years newer. And the Kawasaki mule doesn't get worked hard if much at all. Only used to putt around the yard and it has had carburetor replaced once already and experiencing same issues again and has been in the shop for a few other minor things already. Not sure of the exact year on the mule but I would guess 2016ish.

8
Having owned (and still own) both. The sxs is definitely more versatile. Like others have stated, the option of a roof and windshield are nice when you get caught on the back 40 when it starts pouring or in the blazing sun. Have the room for more tools and people in a safer package

I have the Ridge Grapplers on my Dmax in 295/55R20. I love them so far. No problems with traction on wet or dry roads and have done well so far in what little mud they have been in so far. Pulling into deer lease with 24' gooseneck and a muddy road use to require 4 wheel drive and conservative path selection. This last trip out when we arrived it was muddy and I never put the truck in 4x4 and never even had a tire slip even while trying to turn the trailer around.

I can't speak for the longevity as I only have 6k on them so far if that, but what from what I can tell they appear that they will last awhile.

Yeah I saw that... Kinda makes me think of my wife. She'll back over something backing outta the garage and then just keep going. Her theory is "I've already messed up whatever it was so no point in getting out to see what it was until the truck is all the way outta the garage and I can then see what it was through the windshield."

Then she wonders why I don't let her drive my truck....  :knucklehead:

Tires, Wheels, and Suspension / Re: *NEW* Nitto Ridge Grappler
« on: June 15, 2018, 12:35:34 AM »
Just put a set of the Ridge Grapplers on my Duramax last week. The factory Good years; although with plenty of tread remaining at 35k miles, decided to bubble up on me on the way to work. Only one bubbled but when the guys at Discount removed the other tires from the wheels multiple tires were showing signs of belt separation on the inside of the tire. Thankful it happened last week instead of next week when the family heads out for vacation pulling the 24' Gooseneck with the side x side and loaded down.

Called the closest discount tire to work and they happened to have 4 of the Ridge Grapplers in 295/55/R20 in stock which is the exact tire I have been eyeballing for quite some time. So I bit the bullet and had them mounted up. So far no rubbing at factory ride height but it's darn close. If it starts rubbing I may just give the keys a couple turns. Only have about 100 miles on them so far as it's not my daily rig. Have the Trail Grapplers on the daily. Big fan of those but did not want to go that aggressive with the Dmax.

Will give an update as the mileage progresses.

Well finally was able to make it home from work yesterday afternoon due to Harvey. Had been there since Sunday morning. Wife and daughter were home alone through the whole thing. We didn't have any water damage, closest water came was about 4 ft from the garage so it was getting close. Only spent 36 hours approximately without power. Fortunately everything in the freezer stayed frozen. Unfortunately my daughters birthday was Tuesday si I wasn't able to be with her on her b-day.

There are houses only a mile or so down the road that are flooded as well as many of the streets.

I just thank God that he kept my family and home safe through the storm.

20
I like those as well.

Need a UTV for the hide finally...shouldn't have sold my Deere, but the darned thing was slow, and I don't like slow.

I was leaning toward the ranger, but this is worthy of a look over. My buying timeframe is around 24 months...Give me time to get a bit older and more arthritic!

Dad has the ranger crew 800 and it has definitely earned its keep with all the work we've put it through in the deer woods. Had it loaded down with 4 adults, a full grown golden retriever, tools for days, 800#s of deer corn, all while pulling a small trailer loaded with 1800#'s of quickrete through the Texas hill country and never once did it complain or even struggle with the load. It will get up to around 50mph when it's time to play as well.

The general is also available in a 4 seater option if that's something more suited to your needs. I don't have the storage space for the 4 seater model without kicking one of the trucks out of covered parking so I didn't even consider it as an option.

21
Like Ken said, basically a cross breed between the rzr and the ranger. Has a smaller bed than the ranger but still more functional than the rzr bed. The 2 seater general is built on the rzr 900 chassis so it has the more "sporty" ride when compared to the ranger. Haven't had much seat time yet between rain storms and work. Going to try and put some time in this weekend unless I put the boat in the water.

Wanted a rzr for years but couldn't justify it due to the lack of bed space and needing to be able to haul corn and deer while at the lease.

23
Well I finally did it. Yesterday I pulled the trigger on a new 2017 Polaris General White Lightning edition. Been looking at the ride command version for a couple months now and when I finally decided to buy they could not get one in and quite possibly wouldn't until beginning of next year as they are getting ready for model year swap over.

Talked to the sales guy and manager and they made me a deal on this one. Took a few days to think about it and decided I didn't need all the bells and whistles of the ride command so I saved a few thousand and got the white lightning.

Power steering is a nice feature for sure. The 100hp 1000cc motor has more power than I would have imagined. Had it up to 65mph yesterday and still has some pedal left. That's enough of that until the break in period is over.

Had an audioformz top put on it at the dealer. Has radio, 4 speakers, Led dome light, 5 forward facing flush mount 10watt leds (these will probably get swapped for 40watters or a light bar), and one rear facing 10w led. There is still room to add more lights, speakers etc. I have a gun scabbard mount, a fold down windshield, a bed extender, and factory RZR led headlights coming for it that should arrive next week sometime.

I will post some pics once the phone charges a bit. Seems to not last these days.

I have it and like it very much.  it's very consistent and accurate.  There are some programming mods you can do to make it faster and more accurate.

Oh yeah and I finally pulled the trigger on this as I couldn't pass up the price. Local gun shop had it for 380, so when I saw the 260 price tag on Natchez I couldn't pass it up.

I have got to get an electronic powder dispenser someday soon. Actually, what I really need is a Dillon.... Any ideas on how to convince my wife that an $800 progressive is a good investment?

FedEx dropped off my chargemaster today. Only had time to get it set up on the bench. Will look into the tuning info TRN posted up this weekend and will give it a try to see how it goes.

A progressive press would be nice for bulk loading pistol and 223 but I think for my long range precision ammo I'll stick to single stage.

Would not buy a heavily modified used one around our parts TRN. (Houston area) there's a good chance it will have seen more than its share of abuse with the 2 big riding parks around Crosby. Mud and water deeper than necessary (brackish water at that). Buddy bought a used four wheeler that was heavily modified on initial inspection and ride, but turned out to be a piece of junk after further digging and riding. Bushings in a arms gone, axles seized in dif, broken front dif internals due to tires entirely too large and heavy.... and the list goes on.

Dad just had this problem with his 2011 except it would act like you shifted from forward gear to park or reverse once you let off the accelerator. Let me tell ya that's a sketchy feeling. Rolling forward and suddenly the rear wheels lock up and start hopping down the street

31
How hard is it to change a belt?
Not terrible on the ranger as it's easier to get to than my sportsman. Maybe an hours work and can easily be done on the trail if need be.
Do I really need 68 hp?
More power=better. Not sure the hp rating on the 800 we have but it's sufficient but certainly wouldn't argue with more
Do I need power steering?
Ranger we have does not have it but I have driven one with it and would not buy another without
Is diesel a worthwhile consideration ?
Zero experience driving one but from what I've heard they are noisier and slower no firsthand experience though

Biggest issue people have with the CVT is the belt. Lots of folks "burn" belts left and right, but it's because they don't use low and high range like they should or they have tires installed that would make square d's tires look like something off a Kia. Any time climbing or pulling, or even ar speeds under say 10mph low range should be used. Stating the obvious here, but low range is geared lower thus making it easier to get the tires rolling under stress and putting less wear and heat on the belt.

All it takes is a little glaze to form on the outside edges of the belt to cause it to become more and more succeptible to slippage, but use the right gear and you should never get that far. On my 2008 sportsman I've burnt one belt over the years and it was from some of that misuse I mentioned before along with a little adult beverage involvement. Other than that zero issues out of it.

33
Polaris ranger crew. Room for the whole family and plenty of room and power for working. Rides like a Cadillac. Dad has a 2014 crew 800. We've had it loaded down with 4 folks, a golden retriever, tools and more tools, 800 pounds of deer corn, all while pulling a small utility trailer loaded with 30 60# sacks of quickrete. Never missed a beat and did not struggle at all making driving through the lease out around garner state park.

I know some folks have a sour taste in their mouth about the belt drive, but if you follow owners manual recommendations and use low range when towing or in heavy load situations you will have zero issues.

I'm currently considering purchasing the Polaris general myself just because it is a tad more sporty than the ranger, but not as sport/play oriented as the rzr. Not quite as much payload capacity as the ranger but you have to give a little to get a little I suppose.

I'm sorry to hear this. Did Caleb know our Lord? Is he dancing with him this very moment :-) ?

I somehow think that he did,

Amidst the sorrow, try and not focus on our loss, but instead on his gain!

Glory! Glory!

Don, I would like to believe he knew our Lord and is now getting to know Him better than we here on earth can. He was raised on The Word for sure, and his parents provided him all the "tools" to have a strong walk with God.

Being around him I always felt inspired. Even with through his struggles with MD he never showed weakness mentally or spiritually. Seeing him reminded me that no matter the problems I was facing I could overcome them as long as I accept that God has the master plan, as he had. I thank God for the years that he blessed our lives with Caleb, and for the lessons that God taught me through him.

Thank you all for your prayers and kind words. They are much appreciated. God Bless.

Prayers requested for my cousins son.

He is 16 and has been battling muscular dystrophy. He has been confined to a wheelchair for about 5 years now. Yesterday he was on his way to the doctors office to get some help with this flu like bug going around. My cousin thought he had fallen asleep in his chair on the car ride. Turns out he was unconscious and not breathing. They started compressions and were able to get his heart going but not able to breathe on his own. He was taken via ambulance to the nearest hospital where he was then taken by life flight to Texas children's hospital.

Upon arriving he went into cardiac arrest where they again gave compressions and were able to stabilize his heart.... about 1am his heart stopped again. They were able to establish a normal rhythm, but as of last I heard he was still unconscious and unable to breathe on his own. At this time they are unsure as to whether or not there has been any brain damage or not. They have not been able to keep his heart stable long enough to do a brain scan.

It is in God's hands and I know that regardless of the outcome it is all part of his plan. I pray that He bring comfort to the parents, grandparents, and siblings in this difficult time. I pray that He ease any pain or suffering Caleb may be feeling. I pray His will be done.

Front doors have 2, maybe 3, 7mm hex head screws to remove and then you just lift up slightly on the door panel and it pops right off after unplugging switches of course. Rear doors are just as easy if not easier. Remove door lock slider (orange indicator) and the trim ring around the door handle. Remove said screws and gently lift up... worked at Best Buy for a few years as a car audio installer in my late teens and up to 21ish. Could do 4 speakers on that body style crew cab chevy in about 45 minutes. Have had the door panels off of my 2003 more times than I can count... the switch plugs on the front doors are the trickiest part.

For reference.

Can employers prohibit workers from storing licensed handguns in their private vehicles?Generally, no. In 2011, Senate Bill No. 321 was signed into law. Under SB 321, most public and private employersin Texas may not prohibit employees, who hold a license to carry a handgun, from transporting or storing a lawfully possessed  rearm in the employee’s locked, privately owned motor vehicle in a parking lot, parking garage or other area provided by the employer. Of course, there are several exceptions, including, vehicles leased or owned bythe employer; vehicles parked in lots owned or controlled by schools; or speci ed properties owned or leased by chemical manufacturers or oil and gas re ners.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

If I read this correctly, I believe my employer would fall under this section here. I'm a process operator/technician at a chemical plant in La Porte. I know I can park outside the gates in the contractor parking lot and leave it in my truck, but I don't think I can drive the 1.5 miles to my unit inside the gates and have it in the truck (which I'm not comfortable with as break ins happen from time to time) They do have large signs right at the gate/guard shack with the 30.06/30.07 penal codes displayed as well.

Having just bought a 2017 1500 with the 5.3l I did a bit of research before purchasing as I owned a 2008 with the 5.3l and the AFM before trading up to the Dmax. On the 2008 it was a nuisance and I was dissatisfied to say the least. However in 2014 the 5.3 and 6.2 were both redisgned, now designated as the EcoTec3 5.3l as opposed to the older vortec line. (Even look completely different when peeking under the hood) as was stated above by others the bugs are supposed to be worked out of the afm with the newer design. I suppose time will tell.

I will have to see if I can find the articles I read on the topic to post links.

The newer version seems to be more subtle in its transition between v4/v8, and is averaging about 22mpg. Best I could get from the 2008 was 16 if the stars were aligned perfectly. Can't speak on the towing capabilities of the newer model as it is still in the break-in mileage range and I haven't put a trailer behind it.

Our 2012 does the SAME thing.  It's a 4cyl.  It always sounds like the valve train is starving for oil.  Looking at Yukons.

Her's was also the 4cyl. The more I read about that engine the less I liked it. Tons of people with the same problem of burning oil and noisy valvetrain. Piston rings and timing chain guides are notorious for causing problems.

Even tried different oils like mentioned above (mobil1, amsoil, royal purple...) to no avail.

Got tired of the 2012 Terrain of the wife's burning oil like there's no tomorrow plus she wanted a bigger vehicle so we traded it in today for this 2017 Silverado 1500.

Needless to say she is happy, but she's kinda upset that she won't get to show it off at work tomorrow since Im off for one more day I'll be taking it to Line-x to get the bed sprayed and will be ordering the undercover flex cover for it.
My wife wants one of these too. After I seen the price tag I said hell no. I will spend another 10-15 k and get a new duramax for myself. That didnt go over well.

Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk

She wanted a Yukon. Haha have you seen the price on those things?! Overall price wasn't too bad. I get preferred pricing through my work and with all the rebates going right now on top of that I ended up at 34k before subtracting my trade in value. Sad part is we were looking at a used 2016 that would have cost 3k more considering no preferred pricing and no rebates. Her car was burning oil at an alarming rate and smelled as if it had a freon leak in the cab with only 76k on the odo. Seemed like every time I went outta town it had some new issue. With it being her and the 5yr old, I didn't want them to get stranded somewhere.

Merry Christmas real men!!

I pray that God blesses each and every one of you as you spend time with family and friends, and that he keep you and your families safe as you travel this holiday season. May we never forget the true meaning of Christmas... Amen

Picked up a few things tonight. For all the ammo I have I am very light on hunting rounds. And I picked up a bianchi holster for the 686 to carry with snake shot

Happy B-Day Tex!!!

I'm very fond of that TAP ammo for my .223 in the 55gr variety as that seems to be what it like the best. That Precision Hunter ammo is also some top notch ammo. I have not tried it in the .308, but it shoots nickel size groups out to 200 in my 6.5 creedmoor which is almost on par with my 140gr Berger VLD handloads that will shoot dime sized out to 200. Good choice
