I haven?t seen a single photo of this group where the folks walking were ?dirty? or ?not well dressed?. Like they walked out of a 4 star hotel

If they were so hard up where they were they sure don?t look it now

I might catch grief for this but....... Don cutting trees larger than your leg is not a game for an old man!!!! You need to train up one of those young fast moving boys.

I don?t know how many trees I have cut over the years and I still get caught off guard.    A good friend of mine fell a few years back from scaling a tree to be trimmed he managed to saw through both his line and his cable life line and fell, if accidents can happen to an arborists with 20+ years,  they for sure can happen to a guy like you or me.

Please be careful will ya

Started and finished a lean to for my welder buddy.  Needed a place to park the wife?s Jeep since he took over the garage/shop

The stihl drill is simply that. A trigger turns up the pace, a clutch activates to turn the drill.   He uses it to take up space on his shelf in the garage lol

I think you are as hosed as I am, wife is trying to put her Christmas decorations in the crawl space in my garage.  I told her she would have to fund$ her own loft and I would build it.  Anything else inside that house was her choice and if she missed it it?s her loss.   I got laughed at.

I have one, every scout troop I have been with has one. We use the griddle attachment for cooking, we do canning in the garage with it all summer.  We really like camp chef stuff.  Get the storage bag to keep it clean and keep a extra igniter on hand also.

You would be shocked at how often that level saves time.   Guys searching around for a 16 foot straight board to put a level on.  An just grab that and extend it to the top of the wall.

One of our other houses is going much better than mine

Brick back splashing I did, I don?t like the idea but it will look nice

Concrete simulator tiles we put up on the fireplace.  Again differing opinions but it looks great

Custom hand rail by our welder/fabricator inside and outside of the house.  It gets paint after inspection and all other trades are finished

Well, I notched two 4x6 posts incorrectly for my mezzanine two days ago. Wish I would have known then that if I screw up framing somehow it is Dave?s fault! Guess I had better up update the build thread....
Just turn them over and cut the other side. Or just shorten the height of the structure by your mess up height.  Lol

Dave,,,,,,,,,,
Now now now boys.  If I was involved it would be for sure my problem. Everything I touch is cursed!!  If you read my page about my house and were dumb enough to hire me.   Wow that?s all your fault lol

You would benefit greatly from leaving enough room in the ends of the floor joists to put up what we call rim board.  1 1/2 wafer board that you toenail to the top plate ( your beam) and shoot into the top and bottom of your floor joists.  Keeps that floor from rocking and rolling.
You could also substitute this with cutting blocks out of your scrap joist cut offs to go in between the joists on each end.

What is the plan for anchoring to the concrete?

Dave, did you not sign off on final design prints for the kitchen? I used to work part time in a custom cabinet shop 20 years ago that my cousin owns & that?s how he operated.
Funny you ask that question.  I figured I was covered via the my neighbor is the cabinet shop manager and looking out for me.  The drawing is extremely basic as the guy is computer illiterate so. It looks like this

After much discussion with my boss.  This is a very large issue.  No one is protected, no documentation. Nothing to hold up in court

He is going to fix my cabinets to my requests as most of the mistakes are common sense stuff that should have been caught at the final walk through of my house to measure each room. But this all costs me time and $

The bad now

My cabinets

Not installed because most of them are wrong shape, layout, locations or simply don?t make sense
for instance this cabinet on the top is 11 1/2 inches deep leaving 15.5 inches of wasted space behind it ? No vent requirements, no logical reason.
Next is the frame I am supposed to use brick to fill in the holes.  What does brick stick to here?

Next is my double oven that I have to get on my knees to open because who puts a double oven on the floor?

My master bathroom has a two inch gap between tub and vanity? How do you clean that? Dry out a splash of water? Broom handle and towel I guess?
It should fit tight against tub, or enough room to at least stick three fingers in and clean.

The next bathroom vanity leaves almost 3.5 feet of wasted space from edge of vanity to toilet.  You would have to get up and walk to wipe your butt because the toilet paper is so far away,  this was previously mentioned as the excess space was to accommodate three sets of three drawers for each boy to have his own row.   Instead the vanity was built with a draw and a swing door. Only two not the three boxes we asked for.

In the basement.  The drain clean out is under a drawer not in the open box under the cabinet
This cabinet was removed and tossed off of the damn deck and smacked because at this point I am $18k in crap that I can?t use.   The guy installed the vanity cut a whole for the pipe, didn?t put the drawers in because the pipe was in the way.   Yes the pipe can be cut down but you still need to be able to access it.

Next was mommas list of demands on initial design of the kitchen. Only three things asked.
1. I want a slide out cabinet for spices and seasonings.   Hint...... it didn?t exist.
2. A very large drawer under the range to accommodate our larger cast iron pans that we use. We wanted it deep enough to stand the pans up and not lay them down in the ?nesting? fashion.  They make a simple metal rack that you can adjust so each pan has its own space that You screw to the bottom of the drawer.   We picked it out at the cabinet shop in his catalog and said order it.
3. Was a cookie sheet size cabinet.  That also didn?t exist.

Next.  40 inch cook top range  needs a similar exhaust hood right?   Oh no. They put up a hood that was 30 inches.  Then put very large cabinets on each side overhanging five inches into the cooking surface area of the gas range.   Can anyone think of how that could go very wrong?    Now I wasn?t able to measure the height but some guesses are about 15 inches maybe a few more but that?s not including the granite, or the actual range to measure off of.

The cabinet guy tried to debate the double oven being a standard until I opened up his website that shows many really amazing kitchens not a single kitchen had a double oven that didn?t have at least one drawer under it if not two.   The spice rack he asked for documentation that that is what I wanted.  I again returned to my phone opened the text messages which he responded to for our final choices.

So next.

I made peace with my concrete guy over a corona on Friday eve as I helped him put in forms for the massive driveway. He asked if I would come help him and his other guy pour on Monday.  I just may do that.

I don?t ever profess to be a religious scholar or bible thumper but there is one thing in this life I am positive of, our savior knows our hearts first and foremost. Second thought I have is that our God and him being our true father much like any of us fathers will not abandon those in need of help.   I am thankful everyday for the Holy Spirit and the grace of God that gets me by day by day.

I have never had the personal experience like yours.  The thought of a good life lost always brings tears to my eyes.  Typing in a dark corner with a shut door of my now empty home thinking of the life that could have been. Life can be such a nasty business and we are here to live it.   Prayers for you and family and your son, that the good dead?s might shine a bright light for him to see in the darkness.

Sorry for rambling
