My better half standing in her dream kitchen (yes this one is slightly larger than the farmhouse she left in Indiana)

If I had to nitpick one thing... what’s with the (assuming) return air vents? Not spaced evenly along that wall, or even in relation to each other.

Yeah idk about vents but the island counter supports bothered me more. There is two too many and they are not equally spaced....

At least the corbel spacing is symmetrical.

Yeah, so on the model home it had 5 (which made sense and equally spaced). Wife works with a nurse who owns same model in our neighborhood opposite side of addition. They have 3

I noticed there is no drawer hardware? Installing your self or can you open drawers from the router detail.

I love that cabinet color.  Makes the wood grain stand out, it’s not some ugly Blue which is a plus

That kitchen island looks perfect for lining food on to feed us all when we come stay st your house

Wife likes to entertain, drawer hardware we have to add. I have the drill guides so no big deal but this is how all the large builders operate.

Well, we're almost there. We did walk thru of home to go over home functions, probably good for someone who has never owned a home. We close on the 7th of June. During this we taped up things that needed addressed. All in all I was pretty happy up until finish crews started coming in, my expectations and those of the crews differ a bit. I think in the end it should be a good home.

Paper and calculations are one thing real life usage is what you always go by!!!

Well, then they are invincible :likebutton:

Realize though if you have a u-bolt yoke these don’t line up with those holes typically. These were made as an upgrade from flimsy straps.

Shawn, you big ole wonderful guy! And THEY FIT

Shawn, are these as good or better that going to the Ubolt type setup?

Phil, you’re the engineer!

They’re pretty strong, I’ve been doing these over ten years and never heard of an issue. I used to have a company up North of the border that built nascar chassis who would buy these in bulk.

If you can get a larger diameter u-bolt and bore the yoke for that and still retain the strength of the yoke the u-bolt would be stronger I would think. These bolts are 5/16 fine thread gr 8

Got the Trans-Dapt wheel spacers in, removed a wheel and discovered they do not fit.

They had an advertised ID of 5" but they actually had a 4.8" ID

I threw them away

I have a company I use if you want the link. They make 90% of the spacers and adapters for resellers out there. You plug in your measurements.....

So, I have the brake lines in progress along with some other stuff. Should, with any blessing from above at all, have brakes on it tomorrow and able to back it out of the garage, first time since, when?? October?

Just a few things left

Finish brakes
Drive shaft rear bolts (I think Shawn has me covered on that)
Wire up back up lights
Throw in the fog lights, although I could depart without them
Mount the roof top tent
Align the front end
Drive and record data
Send that off to Justin...reload his tune, then I'm ready to go

I have two of those things in progress at the moment...

Pics tomorrow

Those girdles showed delivered

You get paid by the hour right? Meaning you don’t own the company or a part of it. So you are only as good as the leaders above you.

I used to fight daily early on with the owner of the steel company I managed. He paid me to “coordinate” just about everything. He did sales and pr which he was great at. Occasionally he would step on my toes. Fight would ensue, then one day I decided it’s his company. I decided I wasn’t going to argue with him. I didn’t for about a month. However, I wear my expressions on my face. It’s a huge negative I have yet to overcome.

One day after a month of me agreeing with him and apparently having a dumb a** look on my face when I did so I was reprimanded in his office. The meeting went something along the lines of you must think I’m the dumbest person in the world etc. My response was exactly the opposite. I told him how smart I actually thought he was and I understood it was his business. I then stated however you hired me to do a job but want to step on my toes often. Since all of that is out of my control I decided the one thing I could control is to not argue about how you want to run your business.

He let me do my job going forward. Control what you can control, the rest is someone else’s issue.

So I picked up this Dana 80 a couple months ago minus shafts and screwed up R&P. Pulled the hubs & brakes yesterday which I will sell along with these spindles as a repair item (cheaper to replace a bent spindle than whole axle). So here I am cutting the spindles off and plan is to make this a front steer axle for a future project. Really need to get jib crane built to handle these axles easier.

You may have to get a class B license for that....based upon if it has air brakes and the number of family members riding at one time

Just did some quick reading on the KY dmv site, at most it would be a class C CDL, gross combined weight is 26000. But then there is a section that says you only need a medical examination certificate, but not cdl if it is more than 15 passengers it not for compensation(paraphrase).   But that was a quick read through and I might be wrong.

here we go.....this is a touchy subject for many folks that "THINK" they know what the actual law says, but in reality it actually differs between county, state and federal regulations...…..and they have never legally taught students and had to knowledgably speak on it all the time......as well as are not actually being a federal or state certified motor carrier enforcement officer (except maybe JR)

so lets not all get into a I know better than you situation please!

what I was trying to get at dave is this, and this is just for FYI purposes so that you can have some sort of knowledge before you go and talk to a qualified motor carrier enforcement officer.

federal regulation states

- anything capable of carrying 16 passenger and over needs to have a class C license
- anything vehicle that has air brakes is required to have a class B license
- anything 26,001lbs and above is required to have a class A license
- anybody applying for a Class A,B,C drivers license must pass a medical exam....(this also applies to train conductors, ship captains, pilots, etc)

now that is all for commercial applications!

but for you and using it for personal use, maybe only 1 and 2 would apply....based on the number of passengers that that vehicle is capable of carrying and not actually carrying as well as the fact that it has (if it does have) air brakes.  also you may have to specifically label it something like "personal use only"?!

Title and plate as an RV.....

For the record in Indiana that meant it had to have a bed and toilet in it when the police inspection was being done. I may or may not have had a large truck minus flat bed sitting next to a slide in truck camper once and passed the inspection.....

what do you mean?

My thought process is that condensation between tarp and roof top might not be a good thing long term.

D.O.T. / Re: WDYDT (What Did You Do Today)

Care to explain why you invested in a cover? Does yours leak?

I got my trailer back today after getting a fitted tarp made for it, as well as a heavy duty water proof cover for the smoker.

both of the covers are made out of 20mil tarp.

now I just have to get 9 tubes of sealer for the roof of trailer and get 4 days of sun and no rain to get it stripped off and resealed.

Like SLC Dave said, kind o curious why you got a cover. They look good quality though. The grill cover is great looks like. Person standing with a poncho on.

so to clarify, yes the roof is leaking.  do I know where at?....yes.   do I know how to fix the problem?.....yes.

the trailer is 5 years old and was bought straight from the wells cargo factory down in Waco texas.  the problem is that when the factory put the sealant on over the seam of the roof and sidewall, they only put a thin layer and in a couple of spots it got really thin.  well time, direct sun light, snow, etc has worn that sealant out and now has a few cracks in it.

is it an easy fix?....yes.  it is nothing like what JR and KEN had to go thru with their trailer roofs.  the problem is that right now things are really wet here in Nebraska and not a lot of sun.  so as soon as I can get 4 straight days of no rain, I can get on top of the trailer and strip all of the old sealant off and get some new stuff re-applied.  also, if I had access to massive shops like what farmerjon has then i could get in there regardless of what the weather outside is like and get'er taken care of.

so that is where the investment of the heavy duty fitted tarp comes in.  i have grommet holes every 18", the bottom seam where the grommets are is triple reinforced, all of the corners are triple reinforced and have corner protectors, the rear is designed so that if i need to get into the trailer i don't have to remove the whole tarp and it hangs about 24" down the sides.  right now it is what is keeping the water out of the inside and when i get the roof re-sealed it will act as the additional layer of protection while sitting.

repair costs look something like this:

professional job (probably would not be done correctly) runs about $1000

nate doing the work is $225 for the 9 tubes of sealant and $325 for the custom fitted heavy duty tarp = $550 (and it would be done correctly)

Assuming that is a breathable tarp material if not mold may become an issue?

What does it need to be a driver other than tires?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Know it needs a fuel pump (probably tanked cleaned), for record I did not start it but he offered to do that. Of course tires......

Charles, I sent you head of estates contact info. He’s nice church going guy (had to meet early so he could make it back to church service yesterday)  give him a shout. He’s not really a car guy so if you need pictures or video he could do that for you and probably fill you in on history.

3785
Thought you said it had stock axles Shawn.
Anyway doesn't seem like a horrible price. Looked at a M38a1 willys before my trip...SF 14 bolt rear , d44 in front,  blown 289 engine (not good blown)stock trans and TC and he wanted 8 and got 6 from someone else. I offered 2500.

Yeah, thought it was stock drivetrain. It is not.....

I’d be at $3k tops but I’m cheap and think you could sell it for $5k pretty easy to right guy. I’m not right guy and have enough projects ahead of me at moment.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Livermore Co, it’s still for sale but sale price will be around $6k at moment. I told him if guy doesn’t come thru at $6k let me know. I can put you in touch with him if you like Charles. FYI it needs tires.....

3788
So you’re saying that thing came stock with 10 lug axles?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

He had what appeared to be older 5 ton axles under it, non of drive train was stock FYI

454 ci motor, fuel pump was out of it but would run off of pop bottle they had rigged up.

3789
Did not buy the m715, it had a standing offer of 6k on it. I told him accept the money...

Did buy axles and some other stuff....

3790
What’s he asking for it Shawn?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

$10k, and maybe he’s proud of it? But I don’t think so, it’s worth half of that maybe and like those axles I’d pay maybe a third. He jumped on axle offer way too quick so won’t make that mistake again. Bottom line it’s his brothers estate stuff and 1.5 hours from his house. He needs it to find a new home.

Back side of front passenger output (on top of where fancy bling aluminum cover is now)

When will they be ready? I need to pull my case back off anyways.

Should have them in stock within 30 days

3792
Speaking of which and maybe he’ll stop in but Norm and I were texting about this truck earlier and he made some comments about having enough junk and wanting to clean up. Thinking if he has something you may be interested in that now may be time to hit him up about it....

Oh and for the record he confirmed during that discussion he was feeling aok and not ill!

3793
Well, what is your idea for using it? Just the body? All of it?

What could you sell that you don’t use to recoup part of the cost?

Honestly, don’t know. Axles appear stock, not sure if rest of drivetrain is as well? Think I could buy it right and flip it even possibly. The one I’m getting g from Norm is minus bed. My thinking that was ok because I had an idea for an aluminum custom one with stair tread material for floor (think never washing your bed out!). So this would allow me to get exact measurements etc.

3794
So someone talk me out of this.....

Really digging the patina, it’s part of estate where the rocks are. He is asking way too much but was with the axles too so thinking cash talks. And still got the m715 coming from Norm in about two months....
